Al-Qamar (القمر)
Surah 54 • 56 Verses • Arabic, English & Kiswahili
بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
﴿١﴾
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
ٱقْتَرَبَتِ ٱلسَّاعَةُ وَٱنشَقَّ ٱلْقَمَرُ
﴿٢﴾
The Hour has drawn near, and the moon has split [in two].
وَإِن يَرَوْا۟ ءَايَةًۭ يُعْرِضُوا۟ وَيَقُولُوا۟ سِحْرٌۭ مُّسْتَمِرٌّۭ
﴿٣﴾
And whenever they see a sign, they turn away and say, 'Continuous magic.'
وَكَذَّبُوا۟ وَٱتَّبَعُوٓا۟ أَهْوَآءَهُمْ ۚ وَكُلُّ أمْرٍۢ مُّسْتَقِرٌّۭ
﴿٤﴾
And they denied it and followed their desires, while every matter is settled.
وَلَقَدْ جَآءَهُم مِّنَ ٱلْأَنۢبَآءِ مَا فِيهِ مُزْدَجَرٌ
﴿٥﴾
And there has already come to them of the news that in which there is deterrence.
حِكْمَةٌۢ بَـٰلِغَةٌۭ ۖ فَمَا تُغْنِ ٱلنُّذُرُ
﴿٦﴾
A profound wisdom; so warnings do not benefit [them].
فَتَوَلَّ عَنْهُمْ ۘ يَوْمَ يَدْعُ ٱلدَّاعِ إِلَىٰ شَىْءٍۢ نُّكُرٍ
﴿٧﴾
So turn away from them. [It will be] the Day the Caller calls to something forbidding.
خُشَّعًا أَبْصَـٰرُهُمْ يَخْرُجُونَ مِنَ ٱلْأَجْدَاثِ كَأَنَّهُمْ جَرَادٌۭ مُّنتَشِرٌۭ
﴿٨﴾
With humbled eyes, they emerge from the graves as if they were locusts spreading out.
مُّهْطِعِينَ إِلَى ٱلدَّاعِ ۖ يَقُولُ ٱلْكَـٰفِرُونَ هَـٰذَا يَوْمٌ عَسِرٌۭ
﴿٩﴾
Hurrying to the Caller, while the disbelievers say, 'This is a difficult day.'
كَذَّبَتْ قَبْلَهُمْ قَوْمُ نُوحٍۢ فَكَذَّبُوا۟ عَبْدَنَا وَقَالُوا۟ مَجْنُونٌۭ وَٱزْدُجِرَ
﴿١٠﴾
The people of Noah denied before them; they denied Our servant and said, 'He is mad,' and he was repelled.
فَدَعَا رَبَّهُۥٓ أَنِّى مَغْلُوبٌۭ فَٱنتَصِرْ
﴿١١﴾
So he called upon his Lord, 'Indeed, I am overpowered; support me.'
فَفَتَحْنَآ أَبْوَٰبَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ بِمَآءٍۢ مُّنْهَمِرٍۢ
﴿١٢﴾
So We opened the gates of the sky with pouring water.
وَفَجَّرْنَا ٱلْأَرْضَ عُيُونًۭا فَٱلْتَقَى ٱلْمَآءُ عَلَىٰٓ أَمْرٍۢ قَدْ قُدِرَ
﴿١٣﴾
And We caused the earth to gush forth with springs, so the waters met according to a measure already determined.
وَحَمَلْنَـٰهُ عَلَىٰ ذَاتِ أَلْوَٰحٍۢ وَدُسُرٍۢ
﴿١٤﴾
And We carried it on planks and nails,
تَجْرِى بِأَعْيُنِنَا جَزَآءًۭ لِّمَن كَانَ كُفِرَ
﴿١٥﴾
flowing under Our eyes as a reward for those who disbelieved.
وَلَقَد تَّرَكْنَـٰهَآ ءَايَةًۭ فَهَلْ مِن مُّدَّكِرٍۢ
﴿١٦﴾
And indeed We left it as a sign, so is there any who will remember?
فَكَيْفَ كَانَ عَذَابِى وَنُذُرِ
﴿١٧﴾
Then how [terrible] was My punishment and warning?
وَلَقَدْ يَسَّرْنَا ٱلْقُرْءَانَ لِلذِّكْرِ فَهَلْ مِن مُّدَّكِرٍۢ
﴿١٨﴾
And indeed We have made the Qur’an easy for remembrance, so is there anyone who will remember?
كَذَّبَتْ عَادٌۭ فَكَيْفَ كَانَ عَذَابِى وَنُذُرِ
﴿١٩﴾
The people of ‘Aad denied [the warning], so how [terrible] was My punishment and warning?
إِنَّآ أَرْسَلْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ رِيحًۭا صَرْصَرًۭا فِى يَوْمِ نَحْسٍۢ مُّسْتَمِرٍّۢ
﴿٢٠﴾
Indeed, We sent upon them a furious wind on a day of continuous misfortune,
تَنزِعُ ٱلنَّاسَ كَأَنَّهُمْ أَعْجَازُ نَخْلٍۢ مُّنقَعِرٍۢ
﴿٢١﴾
stripping the people as if they were hollow trunks of palm trees.
فَكَيْفَ كَانَ عَذَابِى وَنُذُرِ
﴿٢٢﴾
Then how [terrible] was My punishment and warning?
وَلَقَدْ يَسَّرْنَا ٱلْقُرْءَانَ لِلذِّكْرِ فَهَلْ مِن مُّدَّكِرٍۢ
﴿٢٣﴾
And indeed We have made the Qur’an easy for remembrance, so is there anyone who will remember?
كَذَّبَتْ ثَمُودُ بِٱلنُّذُرِ
﴿٢٤﴾
The people of Thamud denied the warnings,
فَقَالُوٓا۟ أَبَشَرًۭا مِّنَّا وَٰحِدًۭا نَّتَّبِعُهُۥٓ إِنَّآ إِذًۭا لَّفِى ضَلَـٰلٍۢ وَسُعُرٍ
﴿٢٥﴾
They said, 'A human like us shall we follow him? Surely then we would be in error and madness.'
أَءُلْقِىَ ٱلذِّكْرُ عَلَيْهِ مِنۢ بَيْنِنَا بَلْ هُوَ كَذَّابٌ أَشِرٌۭ
﴿٢٦﴾
Is the reminder to be sent down upon him from among us? Nay, he is a lying, mischievous one.
سَيَعْلَمُونَ غَدًۭا مَّنِ ٱلْكَذَّابُ ٱلْأَشِرُ
﴿٢٧﴾
Tomorrow they will know who is the lying, mischievous one.
إِنَّا مُرْسِلُوا۟ ٱلنَّاقَةِ فِتْنَةًۭ لَّهُمْ فَٱرْتَقِبْهُمْ وَٱصْطَبِرْ
﴿٢٨﴾
Indeed, We sent the she-camel as a trial for them; so watch them and be patient.
وَنَبِّئْهُمْ أَنَّ ٱلْمَآءَ قِسْمَةٌۢ بَيْنَهُمْ ۖ كُلُّ شِرْبٍۢ مُّحْتَضَرٌۭ
﴿٢٩﴾
And inform them that the water is apportioned among them; each drinking in turn.
فَنَادَوْا۟ صَاحِبَهُمْ فَتَعَاطَىٰ فَعَقَرَ
﴿٣٠﴾
But they called their companion, so he hamstrung [the she-camel].
فَكَيْفَ كَانَ عَذَابِى وَنُذُرِ
﴿٣١﴾
Then how [terrible] was My punishment and warning?
إِنَّآ أَرْسَلْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ صَيْحَةًۭ وَٰحِدَةًۭ فَكَانُوا۟ كَهَشِيمِ ٱلْمُحْتَظِرِ
﴿٣٢﴾
Indeed, We sent upon them a single blast, and they became like dry twigs [scattered].
وَلَقَدْ يَسَّرْنَا ٱلْقُرْءَانَ لِلذِّكْرِ فَهَلْ مِن مُّدَّكِرٍۢ
﴿٣٣﴾
And indeed We have made the Qur’an easy for remembrance, so is there anyone who will remember?
كَذَّبَتْ قَوْمُ لُوطٍۭ بِٱلنُّذُرِ
﴿٣٤﴾
The people of Lot denied the warnings.
إِنَّآ أَرْسَلْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ حَاصِبًا إِلَّآ ءَالَ لُوطٍۢ ۖ نَّجَّيْنَـٰهُم بِسَحَرٍۢ
﴿٣٥﴾
Indeed, We sent upon them a rain of stones, except the family of Lot; We saved them at dawn.
نِّعْمَةًۭ مِّنْ عِندِنَا ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِى مَن شَكَرَ
﴿٣٦﴾
A favor from Us; thus do We reward the grateful.
وَلَقَدْ أَنذَرَهُم بَطْشَتَنَا فَتَمَارَوْا۟ بِٱلنُّذُرِ
﴿٣٧﴾
And indeed, We had warned them of Our punishment, but they disputed the warnings.
وَلَقَدْ رَٰوَدُوهُ عَن ضَيْفِهِۦ فَطَمَسْنَآ أَعْيُنَهُمْ فَذُوقُوا۟ عَذَابِى وَنُذُرِ
﴿٣٨﴾
And indeed, they attempted him concerning his guest, so We blinded their eyes; then taste My punishment and warning.
وَلَقَدْ صَبَّحَهُم بُكْرَةً عَذَابٌۭ مُّسْتَقِرٌّۭ
﴿٣٩﴾
And indeed, the punishment overtook them in the morning, settled.
فَذُوقُوا۟ عَذَابِى وَنُذُرِ
﴿٤٠﴾
So taste My punishment and warning.
وَلَقَدْ يَسَّرْنَا ٱلْقُرْءَانَ لِلذِّكْرِ فَهَلْ مِن مُّدَّكِرٍۢ
﴿٤١﴾
And indeed We have made the Qur’an easy for remembrance; is there anyone who will remember?
وَلَقَدْ جَآءَ ءَالَ فِرْعَوْنَ ٱلنُّذُرُ
﴿٤٢﴾
And certainly, the warnings came to the family of Pharaoh.
كَذَّبُوا۟ بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا كُلِّهَا فَأَخَذْنَـٰهُمْ أَخْذَ عَزِيزٍۢ مُّقْتَدِرٍ
﴿٤٣﴾
They denied all Our signs, so We seized them with a mighty, overpowering grip.
أَكُفَّارُكُمْ خَيْرٌۭ مِّنْ أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكُمْ أَمْ لَكُم بَرَآءَةٌۭ فِى ٱلزُّبُرِ
﴿٤٤﴾
Are your disbelievers better than those, or do you have immunity in the scriptures?
أَمْ يَقُولُونَ نَحْنُ جَمِيعٌۭ مُّنتَصِرٌۭ
﴿٤٥﴾
Or do they say, 'We are all victors'?
سَيُهْزَمُ ٱلْجَمْعُ وَيُوَلُّونَ ٱلدُّبُرَ
﴿٤٦﴾
The assembly will be defeated, and they will turn their backs.
بَلِ ٱلسَّاعَةُ مَوْعِدُهُمْ وَٱلسَّاعَةُ أَدْهَىٰ وَأَمَرُّ
﴿٤٧﴾
But the Hour is their appointed time, and it is more severe and bitter.
إِنَّ ٱلْمُجْرِمِينَ فِى ضَلَـٰلٍۢ وَسُعُرٍۢ
﴿٤٨﴾
Indeed, the criminals are in error and madness.
يَوْمَ يُسْحَبُونَ فِى ٱلنَّارِ عَلَىٰ وُجُوهِهِمْ ذُوقُوا۟ مَسَّ سَقَرَ
﴿٤٩﴾
On the Day they are dragged into the Fire upon their faces—taste the touch of Saqar!
إِنَّا كُلَّ شَىْءٍ خَلَقْنَـٰهُ بِقَدَرٍۢ
﴿٥٠﴾
Indeed, all things We created with predestination.
وَمَآ أَمْرُنَآ إِلَّا وَٰحِدَةٌۭ كَلَمْحٍۭ بِٱلْبَصَرِ
﴿٥١﴾
And Our command is but one, like a glance of the eye.
وَلَقَدْ أَهْلَكْنَآ أَشْيَاعَكُمْ فَهَلْ مِن مُّدَّكِرٍۢ
﴿٥٢﴾
And indeed We destroyed your kinds before; is there anyone who will take heed?
وَكُلُّ شَىْءٍۢ فَعَلُوهُ فِى ٱلزُّبُرِ
﴿٥٣﴾
And everything they did is recorded in the scriptures.
وَكُلُّ صَغِيرٍۢ وَكَبِيرٍۢ مُّسْتَطَرٌ
﴿٥٤﴾
Every small and great deed is noted.
إِنَّ ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ فِى جَنَّـٰتٍۢ وَنَهَرٍۢ
﴿٥٥﴾
Indeed, the righteous will be in gardens and rivers.
فِى مَقْعَدِ صِدْقٍ عِندَ مَلِيكٍۢ مُّقْتَدِرٍۭ
﴿٥٦﴾
Seated in a place of truth, in the presence of an Almighty Sovereign.
