An-Najm (النجم)
Surah 53 • 63 Verses • Arabic, English & Kiswahili
بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
﴿١﴾
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
وَٱلنَّجْمِ إِذَا هَوَىٰ
﴿٢﴾
By the star when it descends,
مَا ضَلَّ صَاحِبُكُمْ وَمَا غَوَىٰ
﴿٣﴾
Your companion has not strayed, nor has he erred.
وَمَا يَنطِقُ عَنِ ٱلْهَوَىٰٓ
﴿٤﴾
Nor does he speak of his own desire.
إِنْ هُوَ إِلَّا وَحْىٌۭ يُوحَىٰ
﴿٥﴾
It is only revelation revealed.
عَلَّمَهُۥ شَدِيدُ ٱلْقُوَىٰ
﴿٦﴾
Taught by One of strong power,
ذُو مِرَّةٍۢ فَٱسْتَوَىٰ
﴿٧﴾
Owner of power, who is established;
وَهُوَ بِٱلْأُفُقِ ٱلْأَعْلَىٰ
﴿٨﴾
And he is at the highest horizon.
ثُمَّ دَنَا فَتَدَلَّىٰ
﴿٩﴾
Then he approached and came nearer.
فَكَانَ قَابَ قَوْسَيْنِ أَوْ أَدْنَىٰ
﴿١٠﴾
So he was at a distance of two bow lengths or nearer.
فَأَوْحَىٰٓ إِلَىٰ عَبْدِهِۦ مَآ أَوْحَىٰ
﴿١١﴾
And He revealed to His servant what He revealed.
مَا كَذَبَ ٱلْفُؤَادُ مَا رَأَىٰٓ
﴿١٢﴾
The heart did not lie in what it saw.
أَفَتُمَـٰرُونَهُۥ عَلَىٰ مَا يَرَىٰ
﴿١٣﴾
Will you then dispute with him about what he saw?
وَلَقَدْ رَءَاهُ نَزْلَةً أُخْرَىٰ
﴿١٤﴾
And indeed he saw him another time,
عِندَ سِدْرَةِ ٱلْمُنتَهَىٰ
﴿١٥﴾
At the Lote Tree of the Utmost Boundary.
عِندَهَا جَنَّةُ ٱلْمَأْوَىٰٓ
﴿١٦﴾
Near it is the Garden of Refuge.
إِذْ يَغْشَى ٱلسِّدْرَةَ مَا يَغْشَىٰ
﴿١٧﴾
When covered the Lote Tree that which covered it.
مَا زَاغَ ٱلْبَصَرُ وَمَا طَغَىٰ
﴿١٨﴾
The sight did not swerve, nor did it transgress.
لَقَدْ رَأَىٰ مِنْ ءَايَاتِ رَبِّهِ ٱلْكُبْرَىٰٓ
﴿١٩﴾
He certainly saw some of the greatest signs of his Lord.
أَفَرَءَيْتُمُ ٱللَّـٰتَ وَٱلْعُزَّىٰ
﴿٢٠﴾
Have you considered Al-Lat and Al-'Uzza?
وَمَنَوٰةَ ٱلثَّالِثَةَ ٱلْأُخْرَىٰٓ
﴿٢١﴾
And Manat, the third, the other?
أَلَكُمُ ٱلذَّكَرُ وَلَهُ ٱلْأُنثَىٰ
﴿٢٢﴾
For you is the male, and for Him is the female?
تِلْكَ إِذًۭا قِسْمَةٌۭ ضِيزَىٰٓ
﴿٢٣﴾
Then indeed, this is an unjust division.
إِنْ هِىَ إِلَّآ أَسْمَآءٌۭ سَمَّيْتُمُوهَآ أَنتُمْ وَءَابَآؤُكُم مَّآ أَنزَلَ ٱللَّهُ بِهَا مِن سُلْطَـٰنٍ ۚ إِن يَتَّبِعُونَ إِلَّا ٱلظَّنَّ وَمَا تَهْوَى ٱلْأَنفُسُ ۖ وَلَقَدْ جَآءَهُم مِّن رَّبِّهِمُ ٱلْهُدَىٰٓ
﴿٢٤﴾
They are but names which you have named, you and your forefathers; Allah has sent down no authority for them. They follow nothing but assumption and what their souls desire, though guidance has come to them from their Lord.
أَمْ لِلْإِنسَـٰنِ مَا تَمَنَّىٰ
﴿٢٥﴾
Or does man have that which he wishes?
فَلِلَّهِ ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةُ وَٱلْأُولَىٰ
﴿٢٦﴾
For Allah belongs the Hereafter and the first [life].
وَكَم مِّن مَّلَكٍۢ فِى ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ لَا تُغْنِى شَفَـٰعَتُهُمْ شَيْـًٔا إِلَّا مِنۢ بَعْدِ أَن يَأْذَنَ ٱللَّهُ لِمَن يَشَآءُ وَيَرْضَىٰٓ
﴿٢٧﴾
And how many angels there are in the heavens whose intercession will not avail except after Allah permits for whom He wills and approves.
إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ لَيُسَمُّونَ ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةَ تَسْمِيَةَ ٱلْأُنثَىٰ
﴿٢٨﴾
Indeed, those who do not believe in the Hereafter call the angels females.
وَمَا لَهُم بِهِۦ مِنْ عِلْمٍ ۖ إِن يَتَّبِعُونَ إِلَّا ٱلظَّنَّ ۖ وَإِنَّ ٱلظَّنَّ لَا يُغْنِى مِنَ ٱلْحَقِّ شَيْـًۭٔا
﴿٢٩﴾
And they have no knowledge of it; they follow only assumption, and indeed, assumption avails nothing against the truth.
فَأَعْرِضْ عَن مَّن تَوَلَّىٰ عَن ذِكْرِنَا وَلَمْ يُرِدْ إِلَّا ٱلْحَيَوٰةَ ٱلدُّنْيَا
﴿٣٠﴾
So turn away from the one who turns away from Our remembrance and desires nothing but the worldly life.
ذَٰلِكَ مَبْلَغُهُم مِّنَ ٱلْعِلْمِ ۚ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ هُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِمَن ضَلَّ عَن سَبِيلِهِۦ وَهُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِمَنِ ٱهْتَدَىٰ
﴿٣١﴾
That is their portion of knowledge. Indeed, your Lord is most knowing of who strays from His way, and He is most knowing of who is guided.
وَلِلَّهِ مَا فِى ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَمَا فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ لِيَجْزِىَ ٱلَّذِينَ أَسَـٰٓـُٔوا۟ بِمَا عَمِلُوا۟ وَيَجْزِىَ ٱلَّذِينَ أَحْسَنُوا۟ بِٱلْحُسْنَى
﴿٣٢﴾
And to Allah belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth, so that He may recompense those who do evil with what they did and reward those who do good with the best.
ٱلَّذِينَ يَجْتَنِبُونَ كَبَـٰٓئِرَ ٱلْإِثْمِ وَٱلْفَوَٰحِشَ إِلَّا ٱللَّمَمَ ۚ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ وَٰسِعُ ٱلْمَغْفِرَةِ ۚ هُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِكُمْ إِذْ أَنشَأَكُم مِّنَ ٱلْأَرْضِ وَإِذْ أَنتُمْ أَجِنَّةٌۭ فِى بُطُونِ أُمَّهَـٰتِكُمْ ۖ فَلَا تُزَكُّوٓا۟ أَنفُسَكُمْ ۖ هُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِمَنِ ٱتَّقَىٰٓ
﴿٣٣﴾
Those who avoid the major sins and immoralities, only committing minor faults. Indeed, your Lord is vast in forgiveness. He knows you when He created you from the earth and when you were embryos in your mothers’ wombs. So do not claim purity for yourselves; He knows best the righteous.
أَفَرَءَيْتَ ٱلَّذِى تَوَلَّىٰ
﴿٣٤﴾
Have you seen the one who turns away?
وَأَعْطَىٰ قَلِيلًۭا وَأَكْدَىٰٓ
﴿٣٥﴾
And gives little and [then] withholds [even more].
أَعِندَهُۥ عِلْمُ ٱلْغَيْبِ فَهُوَ يَرَىٰٓ
﴿٣٦﴾
Does he have knowledge of the unseen, so he sees?
أَمْ لَمْ يُنَبَّأْ بِمَا فِى صُحُفِ مُوسَىٰ
﴿٣٧﴾
Or has he not been informed of what is in the scriptures of Moses?
وَإِبْرَٰهِيمَ ٱلَّذِى وَفَّىٰٓ
﴿٣٨﴾
And of Abraham, who fulfilled [his covenant]?
أَلَّا تَزِرُ وَازِرَةٌۭ وِزْرَ أُخْرَىٰ
﴿٣٩﴾
That no bearer of burden will bear the burden of another.
وَأَن لَّيْسَ لِلْإِنسَـٰنِ إِلَّا مَا سَعَىٰ
﴿٤٠﴾
And that man will have nothing but what he strives for.
وَأَنَّ سَعْيَهُۥ سَوْفَ يُرَىٰ
﴿٤١﴾
And that his effort will soon be seen.
ثُمَّ يُجْزَىٰهُ ٱلْجَزَآءَ ٱلْأَوْفَىٰ
﴿٤٢﴾
Then he will be recompensed with the fullest recompense.
وَأَنَّ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ ٱلْمُنتَهَىٰ
﴿٤٣﴾
And that to your Lord is the finality.
وَأَنَّهُۥ هُوَ أَضْحَكَ وَأَبْكَىٰ
﴿٤٤﴾
And that He it is Who causes laughter and weeping.
وَأَنَّهُۥ هُوَ أَمَاتَ وَأَحْيَا
﴿٤٥﴾
And that He it is Who causes death and gives life.
وَأَنَّهُۥ خَلَقَ ٱلزَّوْجَيْنِ ٱلذَّكَرَ وَٱلْأُنثَىٰ
﴿٤٦﴾
And that He created the two mates, the male and the female.
مِن نُّطْفَةٍ إِذَا تُمْنَىٰ
﴿٤٧﴾
From a sperm-drop when emitted.
وَأَنَّ عَلَيْهِ ٱلنَّشْأَةَ ٱلْأُخْرَىٰ
﴿٤٨﴾
And that upon Him is the next creation.
وَأَنَّهُۥ هُوَ أَغْنَىٰ وَأَقْنَىٰ
﴿٤٩﴾
And that He it is Who enriches and suffices.
وَأَنَّهُۥ هُوَ رَبُّ ٱلشِّعْرَىٰ
﴿٥٠﴾
And that He it is the Lord of Sirius.
وَأَنَّهُۥٓ أَهْلَكَ عَادًا ٱلْأُولَىٰ
﴿٥١﴾
And that He destroyed the first ‘Aad.
وَثَمُودَا۟ فَمَآ أَبْقَىٰ
﴿٥٢﴾
And Thamud. And He did not spare them.
وَقَوْمَ نُوحٍۢ مِّن قَبْلُ ۖ إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا۟ هُمْ أَظْلَمَ وَأَطْغَىٰ
﴿٥٣﴾
And the people of Noah before. Indeed, they were more unjust and rebellious.
وَٱلْمُؤْتَفِكَةَ أَهْوَىٰ
﴿٥٤﴾
And the overturned one fell low.
فَغَشَّىٰهَا مَا غَشَّىٰ
﴿٥٥﴾
So covered it that which covered.
فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكَ تَتَمَارَىٰ
﴿٥٦﴾
So which of your Lord's favors will you dispute?
هَـٰذَا نذِيرٌۭ مِّنَ ٱلنُّذُرِ ٱلْأُولَىٰٓ
﴿٥٧﴾
This is a warner from the first warners.
أَزِفَتِ ٱلْـَٔازِفَةُ
﴿٥٨﴾
The approaching Day has come.
لَيْسَ لَهَا مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ كَاشِفَةٌ
﴿٥٩﴾
None can remove it except Allah.
أَفَمِنْ هَـٰذَا ٱلْحَدِيثِ تَعْجَبُونَ
﴿٦٠﴾
Then do you wonder at this statement?
وَتَضْحَكُونَ وَلَا تَبْكُونَ
﴿٦١﴾
And you laugh and do not weep?
وَأَنتُمْ سَـٰمِدُونَ
﴿٦٢﴾
While you are heedless.
فَٱسْجُدُوا۟ لِلَّهِ وَٱعْبُدُوا۟ ۩
﴿٦٣﴾
So prostrate to Allah and worship Him.
