Taha (طه)

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
Ta-Ha
We have not sent down the Qur'an to you to cause you distress.
But as a reminder for those who fear [Allah].
A revelation from He who created the earth and the highest heavens.
The Most Merciful, established on the Throne.
To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth, and whatever is between them, and whatever is under the soil.
And if you speak aloud [the message], indeed He knows the secret and the hidden.
Allah – there is no deity except Him. To Him belong the best names.
Has the story of Moses reached you?
When he saw a fire and said to his family: 'Stay here; indeed, I have perceived a fire. Perhaps I can bring you a torch from it or find guidance at the fire.'
But when he approached it, he was called, 'O Moses!'
Indeed, I am your Lord, so remove your sandals. Indeed, you are in the sacred valley of Tuwa.
And I have chosen you, so listen to what is revealed.
Indeed, I am Allah. There is no deity except Me, so worship Me and establish prayer for My remembrance.
Indeed, the Hour is coming – I almost conceal it – so that every soul may be recompensed for what it strives.
So let not those who do not believe in it and follow their desires avert you from it, lest you perish.
And what is that in your right hand, O Moses?
He said, 'It is my staff; I lean on it, and I strike with it for my sheep, and I have other uses for it.'
He said, 'Throw it down, O Moses.'
So he threw it, and behold, it was a serpent moving swiftly.
Allah said, 'Seize it and do not fear; We will return it to its former state.'
And place your hand under your arm; it will come out white without disease – another sign.
To show you some of Our greater signs.
Go to Pharaoh; indeed, he has transgressed.
Moses said, 'My Lord, expand for me my breast.'
And ease for me my task.
And untie the knot from my tongue.
That they may understand my speech.
And appoint for me a helper from my family.
Aaron, my brother.
Strengthen me through him.
And share with him my task.
So that We may glorify You much.
And remember You often.
Indeed, You have been seeing us.
Allah said, 'Your request has been granted, O Moses.'
And We conferred upon you another favor.
When We inspired your mother with what was inspired.
That you cast him into the chest, then cast it into the river, so the river would deposit him on the shore, where an enemy to Me and an enemy to him would pick him up. And I cast My love upon you so that you would be brought up under My eye.
When your sister walked and said, 'Shall I show you someone to take care of him?' So We returned you to your mother so that her eyes might be comforted and she would not grieve. And you killed a soul, but We saved you from distress and tested you for years in Madyan; then you came according to a decree, O Moses.
And I have chosen you for Myself.
Go, you and your brother, with My signs and do not slacken in remembering Me.
Go to Pharaoh; indeed he has transgressed.
Speak to him gently, perhaps he may take heed or fear Allah.
They said, 'Our Lord, we fear that he may hasten to harm us or transgress.'
Allah said, 'Do not fear; indeed, I am with you both. I hear and see.'
So they approached him and said, 'We are messengers of your Lord. Send with us the Children of Israel and do not torment them. We have come to you with a sign from your Lord. Peace be upon he who follows guidance.'
Indeed, it has been revealed to us that the punishment will be upon those who deny and turn away.
He said, 'Who is your Lord, O Moses?'
Moses said, 'Our Lord is He who gave each thing its creation and then guided.'
Pharaoh said, 'Then what about the former generations?'
Moses said, 'Knowledge of it is with my Lord in a Record. My Lord neither errs nor forgets.'
It is He who made the earth a resting place for you and made pathways upon it and sent down water from the sky; thereby We brought forth various kinds of plants.
Eat of your livestock and pasture them; indeed in that are signs for those of understanding.
From it We created you, and into it We shall return you, and from it We will bring you forth another time.
And We showed him all Our signs, but he denied and refused.
He said, 'Have you come to drive us out of our land with your magic, O Moses?'
He said, 'We will bring you magic like it, so set a meeting between us and you that we will not fail, neither we nor you.'
Moses said, 'Your appointed time is the Day of Gathering, when the people are assembled at mid-morning.'
Then Pharaoh turned away and planned his scheme, then he came forth.
Moses said to them, 'Woe to you! Do not fabricate lies against Allah, lest He destroy you with a punishment. Indeed, the inventors fail.'
Then they disputed among themselves and secretly conferred.
They said, 'These two are magicians who want to drive you out of your land by their magic and to overturn your usual way.'
So plot your scheme and then come in ranks. Indeed, the successful one today will be the dominant.'
They said, 'O Moses, either you throw first or we will be the first to throw.'
He said, 'Rather, throw.' And behold, their ropes and staffs appeared to move as if by magic to the eyes of the spectators.
Moses sensed fear in himself.
We said, 'Do not fear; indeed, you are the uppermost.'
And throw what is in your right hand; it will swallow what they have fabricated. Indeed, what they have done is magic, and the magician will not prosper wherever he is.
Then the magicians fell prostrate, saying, 'We believe in the Lord of Aaron and Moses.'
He said, 'Did you believe in him before I permitted you? Indeed, he is your chief who taught you magic. I will surely cut off your hands and feet on opposite sides and crucify you on the trunks of palm trees, so you may know which of us is more severe in punishment and enduring.'
They said, 'We will not prefer you over what has come to us of clear proofs and He who created us. So judge among us as you will; indeed, you only judge this worldly life.'
Indeed, we believe in our Lord, that He may forgive us our sins, and the magic you compelled us to perform does not grieve us; and Allah is better and enduring.
Indeed, whoever comes to his Lord as a sinner, for him is Hell; he will neither die therein nor live.
But whoever comes to Him as a believer having done righteous deeds, they will have the highest ranks.
Gardens of Eternity, beneath which rivers flow, abiding therein forever. And that is the reward of those who purify themselves.
And We inspired Moses, 'Travel by night with My servants, and strike a path through the sea dry, you need not fear being overtaken or be afraid.'
Then Pharaoh pursued them with his armies, and the sea overwhelmed them.
And Pharaoh led his people astray and did not guide them.
O Children of Israel, We have saved you from your enemy, and We promised you the right side of Mount Sinai, and sent down upon you manna and quails.
Eat of the good things We have provided you, and do not exceed limits, lest My anger descend upon you. And whoever My anger descends upon has surely fallen.
Indeed, I am Forgiving to whoever repents, believes, and does righteous deeds, then follows guidance.
And what made you hasten from your people, O Moses?
He said, 'They are following my tracks, and I hastened to You, my Lord, that You might be pleased.'
He said, 'Indeed, We have tested your people after you, and the Samiri has led them astray.'
Then Moses returned to his people in anger and sorrow. He said, 'O my people, did your Lord not promise you a good promise? Or has the term been long with you, or did you desire that My anger descend upon you so you break My appointment?'
They said, 'We did not break your promise with our own will, but we were burdened with ornaments of the people, so we cast them away. And thus the Samiri led them.'
Then he made for them a calf, a body with a voice, and they said, 'This is your god and the god of Moses.' And they forgot.
Do they not see that it will not speak to them, nor will it harm or benefit them?
And Aaron had already said to them, 'O my people, you are only being tested, and indeed your Lord is the Most Merciful, so follow me and obey my command.'
They said, 'We will not stop worshipping it until Moses returns to us.'
He said, 'O Aaron, what prevented you when you saw them go astray?'
Did you not follow me? Did you disobey my command?
He said, 'O my son, do not seize me by the beard or head. I feared you would say, 'You caused division among the Children of Israel,' and did not consider my words.'
He said, 'What is your case, O Samiri?'
He said, 'I saw what they did not see, so I took a handful from the relics of the messenger and cast it. Thus my soul suggested to me.'
He said, 'Go! Indeed, for you in this life is saying 'No touch', and indeed for you is a promise which will not fail. And look at your god to which you remained devoted; We will burn it, then scatter it into the sea.'
Indeed, your god is Allah, there is no deity except Him. He encompasses all things in knowledge.
Thus We relate to you some of the stories of what has passed before, and We have granted you a reminder from Us.
Whoever turns away from it, indeed he will bear a burden on the Day of Resurrection.
Remaining therein forever, and an evil burden it will be for them on the Day of Resurrection.
The Day the Trumpet is blown, and We will gather the criminals that Day, blue-eyed [in distress].
They will whisper among themselves, 'You did not remain except ten [days].'
We know what they say when the best among them speak, 'You remained not except a day.'
And they ask you about the mountains, say, 'My Lord will blow them away completely.'
Then He will leave it as a leveled plain.
You will not see therein any crookedness or unevenness.
That Day they will follow the Caller without deviation, and all voices will humble themselves to the Most Merciful, hearing only a whisper.
No intercession will benefit except for whom the Most Merciful permits and approves their word.
He knows what is before them and what is behind them, and they cannot encompass Him in knowledge.
Faces will humble themselves before the Ever-Living, the Sustainer. And failed is he who carried injustice.
And whoever does righteous deeds while believing, he will neither fear injustice nor loss.
And thus We have sent it down as an Arabic Quran and made therein from the warnings, that they may fear Allah or it may produce a reminder for them.
Exalted is Allah, the Sovereign Truth. Do not hasten the Quran before its revelation is completed to you, and say, 'My Lord, increase me in knowledge.'
And We had already taken a promise from Adam before, but he forgot; and We found not in him determination.
And [mention] when We said to the angels, 'Prostrate to Adam,' and they prostrated, except Iblis; he refused.
We said, 'O Adam, indeed this is an enemy to you and your wife, so let him not remove you from Paradise that you would be miserable.'
Indeed, therein you will not be hungry nor naked.
And you will not suffer thirst therein nor the sun's heat.
But Satan whispered to him, 'O Adam, shall I direct you to the tree of eternity and a kingdom that will not decay?'
So they both ate of it, and their private parts became apparent to them, and they began to fasten themselves with leaves of Paradise. And Adam disobeyed his Lord, and went astray.
Then his Lord chose him, accepted his repentance, and guided him.
He said, 'Descend from it, all of you. You are enemies to each other. But if guidance comes to you from Me, whoever follows My guidance will neither go astray nor suffer.'
But whoever turns away from My remembrance, his will be a constrained life, and We will raise him blind on the Day of Resurrection.
He will say, 'My Lord, why have You raised me blind while I was seeing?'
He will say, 'Thus did Our signs come to you, and you forgot them; thus will you be forgotten today.'
And thus We recompense whoever exceeds bounds and does not believe in the signs of his Lord. And the punishment of the Hereafter is more severe and lasting.
Then will they not reflect on how many generations We destroyed before them, who walked in their dwellings? Indeed in that are signs for those of understanding.
And if not that a word had preceded from your Lord, it would have been an inevitable decree with a specified term.
So be patient over what they say and exalt [Allah] with praise of your Lord before the rising of the sun and before its setting, and during parts of the night exalt Him and at the ends of the day, that you may be satisfied.
And do not extend your eyes toward that by which We have given enjoyment to [some] categories of them—the splendor of worldly life—so We may test them thereby. But the provision of your Lord is better and more lasting.
And enjoin prayer upon your family and be steadfast therein. We ask not of you provision; We provide for you. And the [best] outcome is for the righteous.
And they say, 'Why does he not bring us a sign from his Lord?' Did not a clear evidence come to them in the former scriptures?
And if We had destroyed them with a punishment before him, they would have said, 'Our Lord, why did You not send to us a messenger that we might have followed Your verses before we were humiliated and disgraced?'
Say, 'Each of you awaits; so await. You will know who are the companions of the straight path and who are guided.'
