Al-Waqi’a (الواقعة)
Surah 56 • 97 Verses • Arabic, English & Kiswahili
بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
﴿١﴾
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
إِذَا وَقَعَتِ ٱلْوَاقِعَةُ
﴿٢﴾
When the Event (the inevitable) occurs,
لَيْسَ لِوَقْعَتِهَا كاذِبَةٌ
﴿٣﴾
There is no denying its occurrence.
خَافِضَةٌۭ رَّافِعَةٌ
﴿٤﴾
It will bring down [some] and raise [others].
إِذَا رُجَّتِ ٱلْأَرْضُ رَجًّۭا
﴿٥﴾
When the earth is shaken with a violent shake,
وَبُسَّتِ ٱلْجِبَالُ بَسًّۭا
﴿٦﴾
And the mountains are crushed to powder,
فَكَانَتْ هَبَآءًۭ مُّنۢبَثًّۭا
﴿٧﴾
And become scattered dust,
وَكُنتُمْ أَزْوَٰجًۭا ثَلَـٰثَةًۭ
﴿٨﴾
And you are [divided] into three kinds (people).
فَأَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْمَيْمَنَةِ مَآ أَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْمَيْمَنَةِ
﴿٩﴾
And the companions of the right – what are the companions of the right?
وَأَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْمَشْـَٔمَةِ مَآ أَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْمَشْـَٔمَةِ
﴿١٠﴾
And the companions of the left – what are the companions of the left?
وَٱلسَّـٰبِقُونَ ٱلسَّـٰبِقُونَ
﴿١١﴾
And the forerunners, the forerunners –
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ ٱلْمُقَرَّبُونَ
﴿١٢﴾
They are the ones brought near [to Allah].
فِى جَنَّـٰتِ ٱلنَّعِيمِ
﴿١٣﴾
In the Gardens of Delight.
ثُلَّةٌۭ مِّنَ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ
﴿١٤﴾
A multitude from the former peoples
وَقَلِيلٌۭ مِّنَ ٱلْـَٔاخِرِينَ
﴿١٥﴾
And a few from the later peoples.
عَلَىٰ سُرُرٍۢ مَّوْضُونَةٍۢ
﴿١٦﴾
Upon thrones woven [with ornament],
مُّتَّكِـِٔينَ عَلَيْهَا مُتَقَـٰبِلِينَ
﴿١٧﴾
Reclining on them, facing one another.
يَطُوفُ عَلَيْهِمْ وِلْدَٰنٌۭ مُّخَلَّدُونَ
﴿١٨﴾
Circulating among them will be youths [servants] eternal.
بِأَكْوَابٍۢ وَأَبَارِيقَ وَكَأْسٍۢ مِّن مَّعِينٍۢ
﴿١٩﴾
With vessels, pitchers, and a cup from a flowing spring.
لَّا يُصَدَّعُونَ عَنْهَا وَلَا يُنزِفُونَ
﴿٢٠﴾
No headache will they have from it, nor will they be intoxicated.
وَفَـٰكِهَةٍۢ مِّمَّا يَتَخَيَّرُونَ
﴿٢١﴾
And [there will be] fruits from whatever they select
وَلَحْمِ طَيْرٍۢ مِّمَّا يَشْتَهُونَ
﴿٢٢﴾
And the flesh of birds from whatever they desire.
وَحُورٌ عِينٌۭ
﴿٢٣﴾
And fair women with wide, lovely eyes.
كَأَمْثَـٰلِ ٱللُّؤْلُؤِ ٱلْمَكْنُونِ
﴿٢٤﴾
Like pearls well-protected.
جَزَآءًۢ بِمَا كَانُوا۟ يَعْمَلُونَ
﴿٢٥﴾
Reward for what they used to do.
لَا يَسْمَعُونَ فِيهَا لَغْوًۭا وَلَا تَأْثِيمًا
﴿٢٦﴾
They will not hear therein any vain or sinful talk.
إِلَّا قِيلًۭا سَلَـٰمًۭا سَلَـٰمًۭا
﴿٢٧﴾
Only saying: Peace, peace.
وَأَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْيَمِينِ مَآ أَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْيَمِينِ
﴿٢٨﴾
And the companions of the right – what an excellent company they are!
فِى سِدْرٍۢ مَّخْضُودٍۢ
﴿٢٩﴾
Among thornless lote-trees,
وَطَلْحٍۢ مَّنضُودٍۢ
﴿٣٠﴾
And clustered banana trees,
وَظِلٍّۢ مَّمْدُودٍۢ
﴿٣١﴾
And extended shade,
وَمَآءٍۢ مَّسْكُوبٍۢ
﴿٣٢﴾
And flowing water,
وَفَـٰكِهَةٍۢ كَثِيرَةٍۢ
﴿٣٣﴾
And abundant fruit,
لَّا مَقْطُوعَةٍۢ وَلَا مَمْنُوعَةٍۢ
﴿٣٤﴾
Neither forbidden nor restricted,
وَفُرُشٍۢ مَّرْفُوعَةٍ
﴿٣٥﴾
And elevated couches,
إِنَّآ أَنشَأْنَـٰهُنَّ إِنشَآءًۭ
﴿٣٦﴾
Indeed, We created them with [great] creation,
فَجَعَلْنَـٰهُنَّ أَبْكَارًا
﴿٣٧﴾
And made them virgins,
عُرُبًا أَتْرَابًۭا
﴿٣٨﴾
Devoted, equal in age,
لِّأَصْحَـٰبِ ٱلْيَمِينِ
﴿٣٩﴾
For the companions of the right,
ثُلَّةٌۭ مِّنَ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ
﴿٤٠﴾
A group from the former peoples,
وَثُلَّةٌۭ مِّنَ ٱلْآخِرِينَ
﴿٤١﴾
And a group from the later ones,
وَأَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلشِّمَالِ مَآ أَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلشِّمَالِ
﴿٤٢﴾
And the companions of the left – what are the companions of the left?
فِى سَمُومٍۢ وَحَمِيمٍۢ
﴿٤٣﴾
In scorching fire and boiling water,
وَظِلٍّۢ مِّن يَحْمُومٍۢ
﴿٤٤﴾
And a shade of black smoke,
لَّا بَارِدٍۢ وَلَا كَرِيمٍ
﴿٤٥﴾
Neither cool nor pleasant,
إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا۟ قَبْلَ ذَٰلِكَ مُتْرَفِينَ
﴿٤٦﴾
Indeed, they were indulging in luxury before that,
وَكَانُوا۟ يُصِرُّونَ عَلَى ٱلْحِنثِ ٱلْعَظِيمِ
﴿٤٧﴾
And they persistently committed great sin.
وَكَانُوا۟ يَقُولُونَ أَئِذَا مِتْنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابًۭا وَعِظَـٰمًا أَءِنَّا لَمَبْعُوثُونَ
﴿٤٨﴾
And they used to say, 'When we are dead and have become dust and bones, will we truly be resurrected?'
أَوَءَابَآؤُنَا ٱلْأَوَّلُونَ
﴿٤٩﴾
And also our forefathers?
قُلْ إِنَّ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ وَٱلْـَٔاخِرِينَ
﴿٥٠﴾
Say, 'Indeed, the former and the latter peoples
لَمَجْمُوعُونَ إِلَىٰ مِيقَـٰتِ يَوْمٍۢ مَّعْلُومٍۢ
﴿٥١﴾
will surely be gathered together for a known Day.'
ثُمَّ إِنَّكُمْ أَيُّهَا ٱلضَّآلُّونَ ٱلْمُكَذِّبُونَ
﴿٥٢﴾
Then indeed, you, the deviators, the deniers –
لَـَٔاكِلُونَ مِن شَجَرٍۢ مِّن زَقُّومٍۢ
﴿٥٣﴾
Will eat from the tree of Zaqqum,
فَمَالِـُٔونَ مِنْهَا ٱلْبُطُونَ
﴿٥٤﴾
Filling their bellies with it.
فَشَـٰرِبُونَ عَلَيْهِ مِنَ ٱلْحَمِيمِ
﴿٥٥﴾
And will drink boiling water upon it;
فَشَـٰرِبُونَ شُرْبَ ٱلْهِيمِ
﴿٥٦﴾
And they will drink as the drinking of the boiling one.
هَـٰذَا نُزُلُهُمْ يَوْمَ ٱلدِّينِ
﴿٥٧﴾
This is their accommodation on the Day of Judgment.
نَحْنُ خَلَقْنَـٰكُمْ فَلَوْلَا تُصَدِّقُونَ
﴿٥٨﴾
We created you, so why do you not believe?
أَفَرَءَيْتُم مَّا تُمْنُونَ
﴿٥٩﴾
Have you seen that which you emit?
ءَأَنتُمْ تَخْلُقُونَهُۥٓ أَمْ نَحْنُ ٱلْخَـٰلِقُونَ
﴿٦٠﴾
Do you create it, or are We the Creator?
نَحْنُ قَدَّرْنَا بَيْنَكُمُ ٱلْمَوْتَ وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمَسْبُوقِينَ
﴿٦١﴾
We have decreed death among you, and We are not to be outdone.
عَلَىٰٓ أَن نُّبَدِّلَ أَمْثَـٰلَكُمْ وَنُنشِئَكُمْ فِى مَا لَا تَعْلَمُونَ
﴿٦٢﴾
That We may replace you with others and create you in ways you do not know.
وَلَقَدْ عَلِمْتُمُ ٱلنَّشْأَةَ ٱلْأُولَىٰ فَلَوْلَا تَذَكَّرُونَ
﴿٦٣﴾
And indeed you have known the first creation, so will you not remember?
أَفَرَءَيْتُم مَّا تَحْرُثُونَ
﴿٦٤﴾
Have you seen that which you sow?
ءَأَنتُمْ تَزْرَعُونَهُۥٓ أَمْ نَحْنُ ٱلزَّٰرِعُونَ
﴿٦٥﴾
Do you plant it, or are We the Planters?
لَوْ نَشَآءُ لَجَعَلْنَـٰهُ حُطَـٰمًۭا فَظَلْتُمْ تَفَكَّهُونَ
﴿٦٦﴾
If We willed, We could make it stubble, and you would remain in wonder.
إِنَّا لَمُغْرَمُونَ
﴿٦٧﴾
Indeed, We are in debt (responsible).
بَلْ نَحْنُ مَحْرُومُونَ
﴿٦٨﴾
Rather, We are deprived (of it).
أَفَرَءَيْتُمُ ٱلْمَآءَ ٱلَّذِى تَشْرَبُونَ
﴿٦٩﴾
Have you seen the water that you drink?
ءَأَنتُمْ أَنزَلْتُمُوهُ مِنَ ٱلْمُزْنِ أَمْ نَحْنُ ٱلْمُنزِلُونَ
﴿٧٠﴾
Did you send it down from the clouds, or are We the Ones who send it down?
لَوْ نَشَآءُ جَعَلْنَـٰهُ أُجَاجًۭا فَلَوْلَا تَشْكُرُونَ
﴿٧١﴾
If We willed, We could make it bitter, so why do you not give thanks?
أَفَرَءَيْتُمُ ٱلنَّارَ ٱلَّتِى تُورُونَ
﴿٧٢﴾
Have you seen the fire that you strike?
ءَأَنتُمْ أَنشَأْتُمْ شَجَرَتَهَآ أَمْ نَحْنُ ٱلْمُنشِـُٔونَ
﴿٧٣﴾
Did you create its tree, or are We the Creators?
نَحْنُ جَعَلْنَـٰهَا تَذْكِرَةًۭ وَمَتَـٰعًۭا لِّلْمُقْوِينَ
﴿٧٤﴾
We have made it a reminder and provision for the travelers.
فَسَبِّحْ بِٱسْمِ رَبِّكَ ٱلْعَظِيمِ
﴿٧٥﴾
So glorify the name of your Lord, the Most Great.
فَلَآ أُقْسِمُ بِمَوَٰقِعِ ٱلنُّجُومِ
﴿٧٦﴾
I swear by the positions of the stars.
وَإِنَّهُۥ لَقَسَمٌۭ لَّوْ تَعْلَمُونَ عَظِيمٌ
﴿٧٧﴾
And indeed, it is a mighty oath if you only knew.
إِنَّهُۥ لَقُرْءَانٌۭ كَرِيمٌۭ
﴿٧٨﴾
Indeed, it is a noble Qur’an.
فِى كِتَـٰبٍۢ مَّكْنُونٍۢ
﴿٧٩﴾
In a well-guarded Book.
لَّا يَمَسُّهُۥٓ إِلَّا ٱلْمُطَهَّرُونَ
﴿٨٠﴾
None touch it except the purified.
تَنزِيلٌۭ مِّن رَّبِّ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ
﴿٨١﴾
A revelation from the Lord of the worlds.
أَفَبِهَـٰذَا ٱلْحَدِيثِ أَنتُم مُّدْهِنُونَ
﴿٨٢﴾
Then are you to be indifferent to this statement?
وَتَجْعَلُونَ رِزْقَكُمْ أَنَّكُمْ تُكَذِّبُونَ
﴿٨٣﴾
And you make your provision to deny it?
فَلَوْلَآ إِذَا بَلَغَتِ ٱلْحُلْقُومَ
﴿٨٤﴾
So why, when it reaches the throat?
وَأَنتُمْ حِينَئِذٍۢ تَنظُرُونَ
﴿٨٥﴾
And you at that moment will look on?
وَنَحْنُ أَقْرَبُ إِلَيْهِمْ مِنكُمْ وَلَـٰكِن لَّا تُبْصِرُونَ
﴿٨٦﴾
And We are nearer to it than you, but you do not see.
فَلَوْلَآ إِن كُنتُمْ غَيْرَ مَدِينِينَ
﴿٨٧﴾
Then why, if you are not to be recompensed?
تَرْجِعُونَهَآ إِن كُنتُمْ صَـٰدِقِينَ
﴿٨٨﴾
You will return it if you should be truthful.
فَأَمَّآ إِن كَانَ مِنَ ٱلْمُقَرَّبِينَ
﴿٨٩﴾
But as for he who is among the foremost (in faith),
فَرَوْحٌۭ وَرَيْحَانٌۭ وَجَنَّتُ نَعِيمٍۢ
﴿٩٠﴾
He will be contented with satisfaction, bliss, and gardens of delight.
وَأَمَّآ إِن كَانَ مِنْ أَصْحَـٰبِ ٱلْيَمِينِ
﴿٩١﴾
But as for he who is of the companions of the right,
فَسَلَـٰمٌۭ لَّكَ مِنْ أَصْحَـٰبِ ٱلْيَمِينِ
﴿٩٢﴾
Peace be upon you from the companions of the right.
وَأَمَّآ إِن كَانَ مِنَ ٱلْمُكَذِّبِينَ ٱلضَّآلِّينَ
﴿٩٣﴾
But as for he who is among the deniers and the astray,
فَنُزُلٌۭ مِّنْ حَمِيمٍۢ
﴿٩٤﴾
There will be a drink of boiling fluid.
وَتَصْلِيَةُ جَحِيمٍ
﴿٩٥﴾
And (it will be) a scorching Fire.
إِنَّ هَـٰذَا لَهُوَ حَقُّ ٱلْيَقِينِ
﴿٩٦﴾
Indeed, this is the truth of certainty.
فَسَبِّحْ بِٱسْمِ رَبِّكَ ٱلْعَظِيمِ
﴿٩٧﴾
So exalt the name of your Lord, the Most Great.
