Sad (ص)
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
﴿١﴾
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
﴿٢﴾
Ṣād. By the Qur'an, full of reminder,
﴿٣﴾
But those who disbelieve are in pride and dissension.
﴿٤﴾
How many generations We destroyed before them! They called out when there was no escape.
﴿٥﴾
And they marveled that a warner came to them from among themselves, and the disbelievers said, 'This is a lying magician.'
﴿٦﴾
Does he make the gods one God? Indeed, this is a strange thing.
﴿٧﴾
And the eminent ones among them said, 'Go and be patient over your gods. Indeed, this is something to be desired.'
﴿٨﴾
We have not heard of this in the former religion; this is nothing but an invention.
﴿٩﴾
Was the Reminder sent down to him from among us? Rather, they are in doubt concerning My Reminder; nay, they have not yet tasted My punishment.
Or do they have the treasuries of the mercy of your Lord, the Exalted, the Bestower?
Or do they have dominion over the heavens and the earth and whatever is between them? Then let them ascend through the ways of power.
A host? There, no host of the confederates has been defeated.
Before them, the people of Noah, ‘Aad, and Pharaoh, the owner of the stakes, denied [the truth].
And Thamud, the people of Lot, and the companions of Al-Aykah. Those were the confederates.
Each one denied the messengers, so the punishment was justified.
And they await nothing but a single cry, for which there is no delay.
And they said, 'Our Lord, hasten for us our portion before the Day of Reckoning.'
So be patient over what they say and remember Our servant David, the possessor of strength; indeed, he was one who repented.
Indeed, We subjected the mountains to exalt with him [in praise] at evening and morning.
And [We subjected] the birds, assembled in flocks; all returned to him in obedience.
And We strengthened his kingdom and gave him wisdom and decisive speech.
And has the story of the disputants reached you when they climbed over the wall of the sanctuary?
When they entered upon David, he feared them. They said, 'Do not fear; two parties are disputing over some matter, so judge between us with justice and do not exceed bounds, and guide us to the right path.'
One of them said, 'Indeed, my brother has ninety-nine ewes, and I have one ewe; so he said, 'Entrust it to me,' and he strengthened me in speech.'
He [David] said, 'Indeed, he wronged you by asking about your ewe to join his ewes, and many among associates desire wrong over one another, except those who believe and do righteous deeds, and few are they.' And David perceived that We had tested him, so he asked forgiveness of his Lord and fell down in prostration and turned back [to Allah].
So We forgave him that; and indeed, he has near Us a nearness and a good place of return.
O David, indeed We have made you a successor upon the earth, so judge between the people with justice and do not follow your desire, which will mislead you from the way of Allah. Indeed, those who go astray from the way of Allah will have a severe punishment for forgetting the Day of Reckoning.
And We did not create the heavens and the earth and what is between them in vain. That is the assumption of those who disbelieve. So woe to those who disbelieve from the Fire.
Shall We make those who believe and do righteous deeds like the corrupters on the earth? Or shall We make the pious like the wicked?
A blessed Book We have revealed to you, that they might reflect upon its verses and that those of understanding would be reminded.
And We gave to David Solomon. Indeed, he was a servant [of Allah] constantly returning [in repentance].
When in the evening, the coursers were presented to him.
He said, 'Indeed, I have loved the good things more than the remembrance of my Lord, until they were hidden behind a veil.'
Return them to me,' and he began to strike with the reins and bridles.
And We certainly tested Solomon, and We placed upon his throne a body; then he returned [to Us].
He said, 'My Lord, forgive me and grant me a kingdom such as will not belong to anyone after me. Indeed, You are the Bestower.'
So We subjected the wind to him, blowing by his command wherever he intended.
And the devils, every builder and diver.
And others chained in shackles.
This is Our gift, so grant or withhold without account.
And indeed, he has near Us nearness and a good place of return.
And remember Our servant Job, when he called to his Lord, 'Indeed, Satan has afflicted me with hardship and torment.'
Strike with your foot; this is a cool bath and a drink.
And We gave him his family and the like thereof with them as mercy from Us and a reminder for the people of understanding.
And take in your hand a bunch [of grass] and strike with it and do not break your oath. Indeed, We found him patient. Excellent servant! Indeed, he was ever returning [to Allah].
And remember Our servants Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, possessed of strength and insight.
Indeed, We chose them for an exclusive remembrance of the abode [Paradise].
And indeed, they are, with Us, among the chosen, the best.
And remember Ishmael, Elisha, and Dhul-Kifl, and all were of the good.
This is a reminder. And indeed, for the righteous is a good place of return.
Gardens of perpetual residence, the gates of which are opened for them.
They will recline therein, calling for abundant fruit and drink.
And with them are companions with modest gaze, equal in age.
This is what you are promised for the Day of Reckoning.
Indeed, this is Our provision; it will never fail.
This is it; and indeed for the transgressors is an evil place of return.
Hell, they will enter it; and wretched is the resting place.
This, let them taste it, boiling and intensely cold.
And others of similar kind in pairs.
This is a group that will surge with you; no welcome for them; indeed, they have entered the Fire.
They will say, 'Rather, you are not welcome among yourselves. You prepared this for us; wretched is the resting place!'
They will say, 'Our Lord, whoever prepared this for us, increase him in punishment double in the Fire.'
And they will say, 'Why do we not see men we used to count among the evildoers?'
Did We take them in mockery or has their sight failed them?
Indeed, that is the truth about the dispute of the people of the Fire.
Say, 'I am only a warner, and there is no deity except Allah, the One, the Prevailing.'
Lord of the heavens and the earth and whatever is between them, the Exalted in Might, the Forgiving.
Say, 'It is a great news.'
You turn away from it.
I had no knowledge of the higher assembly when they argued.
Revealed to me is only that I am a clear warner.
When your Lord said to the angels, 'Indeed, I am creating a human being from clay.'
So when I have proportioned him and breathed into him of My spirit, fall down in prostration to him.'
So the angels prostrated, all of them together.
Except Iblis; he refused and was arrogant, and he was among the disbelievers.
He said, 'O Iblis, what prevented you from prostrating to what I created with My hands? Were you arrogant, or were you among the exalted?'
He said, 'I am better than him; You created me from fire and created him from clay.'
He said, 'Then get out of it; indeed, you are expelled.'
And indeed, My curse is upon you until the Day of Judgment.
He said, 'My Lord, then delay me until the Day they are resurrected.'
He said, 'Indeed, you are of the delayed.'
Until the known Day (of Resurrection).
He said, 'By Your might, I will surely mislead them all.'
Except Your chosen servants among them.
He said, 'Then the truth; and indeed, I speak the truth.'
I will surely fill Hell with you and all who follow you from them, altogether.
Say, 'I do not ask you for any reward for it, nor am I of the pretentious.'
It is nothing but a reminder for the worlds.
And you will surely know its news after a while.
