Virtues, description, and recitation method of ZIYARAH ON THE DAY & NIGHT OF BE'ASAT as recorded in Shia traditions.

اَلْحَمْدُ للهِ الْذِي اَشْهَدَنَا مَشْهَدَ اَوْلِيَآئِهِ

He also mentioned many of lmam 'Ali's characteristics and merits. However, the statements ot this sermon are to a certain extent similar to the statements of the abovementioned form of ziyarah. It is thus appropriate to consider these statements to be a form of ziyarah this is advisably said on the day of Imam 'Ali's martyrdom. In my book of Hadiyyat al-Za'ir, I have written down these Statements. It is also worth mentioning that in the previous chapter of the merits of the Divine Mission Day, l have mentioned the words of Ibn Battutah, a famous Arab explorer, about the holy shrine of Imam 'Ali ('a). اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَى آَبِن الأَئِمَّةِ وَ مَعْدَنِ النُّبُوَةِ

Peace be upon the father of the lmams and the essence of Prophethood.…

اَشهَدُ اَنْ لَا اِلْهَ اِلَّا اللهُ وَحَدَهُ لَا شَرِيْكَ لَهُ

I bear witness that there is no god save Allah, alone without

وَ اَشْهَدُ آَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَ رَسُوْلُهُ

having any associate. And I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and messenger, that 'Ali the son of Abu-Talib, the

وَ آَنَّ عَلِيَّ بْنَ آَبِي طَالِبِ آَمِيْرَ الْمُؤْمِنِيْنَ عَبْدُ اللهِ وَ آَخُوْ رَسُوْلِهِ

Commander of the Faithful, is the brother of His Messenger,

وَ اَنَّ الْاَئْمَةَ الطَّاهِرِيْنَ مِنْ وُلْدِهِ حُجَجُ اللهِ عَلَى خَلْقِهِ.

that the immaculate Imams from his offspring are Allah's arguments against His creatures.

اَلله اَكْبَرُ

Allah is the Most Great.

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا وَارِثَ أَدَمَ خَلِيْفَةِ اللهِ

Peace be upon you, O inheritor of Adam the vicegerent of

ٱَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا وَارِثَ نُوْحِ صَفْوَةِ اللهِ

Allah. Peace be upon you, O inheritor of Noah the choice of Allah. Peace be upon you, O inheritor of Abraham the

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا وَارِثَ اِبْرَاهِيْمَ خَلِيْلِ اللهِ

intimate friend of Allah. Peace be upon you, O inheritor of

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا وَارِثَ مُؤْسى كَلِيْمِ اللهِ

Moses the spoken by Allah. Peace be upon you, O inheritor of

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا وَارِثَ عِيْسْى رُوْحِ اللهِ

Jesus the spirit of Allah. Peace be upon you, O inheritor of

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا وَارِثَ مُحَمَّدٍ سَيِّدِ رُسُلِ اللهِ

Muhammad the chief of Allah's Messengers. Peace be upon

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا اَمِيْرَ الْمُؤْمِنِيْنَ

you, O commander of the faithful. Peace be upon you, 0

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَآ اِمَامَ الْمُتَّقِيْنَ

epitome of the pious ones. Peace be upon you, O chief of the

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا سَيِّدَ الْوَصِيِّيْنَ

Prophets' successors. Peace be upon you, O successor of

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا وَصِيِّ رَسُوْلِ رَبَّ الْعَالَمِيْنَ

the Messenger of the Lord of the worlds. Peace be upon you,

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا وَارِثَ عِلْمِ الْأَوَّلِيْنَ وَ الْأَخِرِيْنَ

O inheritor of the knowledge of the past and the coming

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ آَيُّهَا النَّبَأ الْعَظِيْمُ

generations. Peace be upon you, O Great News. Peace be

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ آَيُّهَا الصَّرَاطُ الْمُسْتَقِيْمُ،

upon you, O Straight Path. Peace be upon you, O noble,

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ آَيُّهَا الْمُهَذَّبُ الْكَرِيْمُ

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ اَيُّهَا الْوَصِيُّ التَّقِيُّ

refined one. Peace be upon you, O pious successor (of the

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ آَيُّهَا الرَّضِيُّ الذَّكِيُّ

Prophet). Peace be upon you, O well-pleased, pure one.

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ آَيُّهَا الْبَدْرُ الْمُضِيءُ

Peace be upon you, O shining full moon. Peace be upon you,

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ آَيُّهَا الصِّدِّيْقُ الْاَكْبَرُ

O grandest veracious one. Peace be upon you, O greatest

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ آَيُّهَا الْفَارُوقُ الْاَعْظَمُ

distinguisher (between the right and the wrong). Peace be

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ آَيُّهَا السِّرَاجُ الْمُنِيْرُ

upon you, O glowing lantern. Peace be upon you, O leader to

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا اِمَامَ الْهُدْى

the true guidance. Peace be upon you, O pattern of piety.

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا عَلَمَ التُّقَى

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا حُجَةَ اللهِ الْكُبْرُى

Peace be upon you, O grand argument of Allah. Peace be

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا خَاضَّةَ اللهِ وَ خَالِصَتَهُ

upon you, O select and elite of Allah, trustee and choice of

وَ اَمِيْنَ اللهِ وَ صَفْوَتَهُ

وَ بَابَ اللهِ وَ حُجَتَهُ

وَ مَعْدِنَ حُكْمِ اللهِ وَ سِرِّهِ

Allah, door to and argument of Allah, source and secret of

وَ عَيْبَةَ عِلْمِ اللهِ وَ خَازِنَهُ

Allah's Judgement, guardian and keeper of Allah's

وَ سَفِيْرَ اللهِ فِيْ خَلْقِهِ

knowledge, and envoy of Allah among His creatures.

اَشْهَدُ اَنَّكَ اَقَمْتَ الصَّلَاةَ

I bear witness that you performed the prayers, paid the zakat,

وَ أتَيْتَ الزَّكَاةَ

وَ اَمَرْتَ بِالْمَعْرُوْفِ

وَ نَهَيْتَ عَنِ الْمُثْكَرِ،

وَ اتَّبَعْتَ الرَّسُوْل

enjoined the right, forbade the wrong, followed the

وَ تَلَوْتَ الْكِتَابَ حَقَّ تِلَاوَتِهِ

Messenger, recited the Book as exactly as it must be recited,

وَ بَلَغْتَ عَنِ اللهِ

وَ وَفَيْتَ بِعَهْدِ اللهِ

conveyed the messages of Allah, fulfilled your covenant with

وَ تَمَّتْ بِكَ كَلِمَاتُ اللهِ

Allah, the Words of Allah were accomplished by you, strove in

وَ جَاهَدْتَ فِي اللهِ حَقَّ جِهَادِهِ

Allah's way in the best manner, advised for the sake of Allah

وَ نَصَحْتَ للهُ وَ لِرَسُوْلِهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَ ألِهِ

and for the sake of His Messenger-peace be upon him and

وَ جُدْتَ بِنَفْسِكَ صَابِرًا مُختَسِبًا

his Household, and sacrificed yourself with steadfastness,

مُجَاهِدًا عَنْ دِيَّنِ اللهِ

seeking Allah's reward, struggling for the defense of Allah's

مُوَقَّيًا لِرَسُوْلِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَ ألِهِ

religion, protecting Allah's Messenger-peace be upon him

طَالِبَا مَا عِنْدَ اللهِ

and his Household, seeking for that which is with Allah, and

رَاغِبًا فِيْمَا وَعَدَ اللهُ

وَ مَضَيْتَ لِلَّذِيْ كُنْتَ عَلَيْهِ شَهِيْدًا

desiring for that which Allah has promised. You also sealed

وَ شَاهِدًا وَ مَشْهُوْدًا

your life as martyr, a witness, and witnessed; so, may Allah

فَجَزَاكَ اللهُ عَنْ رَسُوْلِهِ

reward you on behalf of His Messenger, Islam, and the

وَ عَنِ الْإِسْلَامِ وَ اَهْلِهِ

people of Islam with the most favorite reward, for you are

مِنْ صِدَّيْقٍ اَفْضَلَ الْجَزَآءِ

اَشْهَدُ اَنَّكَ كُنْتَ اَوَّلَ الْقَوْمِ اِسْلامًا

veracious. l bear witness that you were the first to embrace

وَاَخْلَصَهُمْ اِيْمَانًا

Islam, the most sincere in faith, the most confident, and you

وَ اشَدَّهُمْ يَقِيْنَا

were the most Allah-fearing, the most steadfast (against

وَ أَخْوَفَهُمْ للهِ

ordeals for the sake of Islam), the most watchful for Allah's

وَ اَعْظَمَهُمْ عَنَآءً

وَ اَخْوَطَهُمْ عَلَى رَسُوْلِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَ ألِهِ

Messenger, peace be upon him and his Household, endowed

وَ اَفْضَلَهُمْ مَنَاقِبَ

وَ اكْتَرَهُمْ سَوَابِقَ

with the most favorable merits, the foremost of everyone

وَ اَرْفَعَهُمْ دَرَجَةً،

else in everything, the owner of the most elevated rank, the

وَ اَشْرَفَهُمْ مَنْزِلَةً

owner of the most honorable position, and the most

وَ اَكْرَمَهُمْ عَلَيْهِ

respected (by Almighty Allah and His Messenger). Thus, you

فقَوِيْتَ [قَوِيْتَ] حِيْنَ وَهَنُوْا

became stronger when they became weak and you abode by

وَ لَزِمْتَ مِنْهَاجَ رَسُوْلِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَ ألِهِ

the course of Allah's Messenger, peace be upon him and his

وَ اَشْهَدُ اَنَّكَ كُنْتَ خَلِيْفَتَهُ حَقًا

Household. l also bear witness that you were the true

لَمْ تُنَازَعْ بِرَغْمِ الْمُنَافِقِيْنَ

vicegerent of him (i.e. the Holy Prophet); no one could ever

وَ غَيْظِ الْكَافِرِيْنَ

compete with you in this position in spite of the existence of

وَ ضِعْنِ الْفَاسِقِيْنَ

hypocrites, the despise of the unbelievers, and the malice of

وَ قُمْتَ بِالْأَمْرِ حِيْنَ فَشِلُوا

the wicked. You also managed the matters when they failed

وَ نَطَقْتَ حِيْنَ تَتَعْتَعُوْا

to do so, you spoke (the truth) when they stammered, and

وَ مَضَيْتَ بِنُوْرِ اللهِ اِذْ وَقَفُوا

you carried on with the light of Allah when they stopped.

فَمَنِ اتَّبَعَكَ فَقَدِ اهْتَدْى [هُدِيَ]

Hence, he who follows you has actually been led to the true guidance.

كُنْتَ اَوَلَهُمْ كَلَامًا

You were the first to speak, the firmest in refuting the rivals,

وَ اشَدَّهُمْ خِصَامًا

the most eloquent of them, the most apposite in opinions,

وَ اصْوَبَهُمْ مَنْطِقًا

وَ اسَدَّهُمْ رَأْيَّا

وَ اَشْجَعَهُمْ قَلْبًا

وَ اكْثَرَهُمْ يَقِيْنًا

the most courageous, the most confident of them, the best

وَ اَخسَنَهُمْ عَمَلًا،

وَ اَعْرَفَهُمْ بِالْأُمُوْرِ

of them in deeds, and the most learned in affairs. For the

كُنْتَ لِلْمُؤْمِنِيْنَ اَبًا رَجِيْمًا

believers, you were merciful father, and they were thus your

اِذْ صَارُوْا عَلَيْكَ عِيَالاً

فَحَمَلْتَ اَثْقَالَ مَا عَنْهُ ضَعْفُوا

dependants; so, you carried the burdens that they were too

وَ حَفِظْتَ مَا اَضَاعُوا

weak to carry, preserved that which they forfeited, conserved

وَ رَعَيْتَ مَا اَهْمَلُوا

that which they neglected, prepared yourself for facing that

وَ شَمَّرْتَ اِذْ جَبَنُوْا

وَ عَلَوْتَ اِذْ هَلِعُوْا

which they were too coward to face, advanced when they

وَ صَبَرْتَ اِذْ جَزِعُوْا

were dismayed, and acted steadfastly when they became

كُنْتَ عَلَى الْكَافِرِيْنَ عَذَابًا صَبَّا

anxious. You were thus incessant torment on the

وَ غِلْظَةً وَ غَيْظًا

unbelievers, and you were also rude and furious (on them).

وَ لِلْمُؤْمِنِيْنَ غَيْثًا وَ خِصبًا وَ عِلْمَا

You rained (with mercy) on the believers, and you were fertile

لَمْ تُفْلَلْ حُجَثُكَ

and source of knowledge for them. Your argument was never

وَ لَمْ يَزِغْ قَلْبُكَ

weak, your heart never deviated, your sagacity was never

وَ لَمْ تَضْعُفْ بَصِيْرَتُكَ

feeble, and your determination never cowered. You were as

وَ لمُ تَجْبُنْ نَفْسُكَ

firm as mountain, since storms could never displace you and

كُنْتَ كَالْجَبَلِ لَا تُحَرَّكُهُ الْعَوَاصِفُ

misfortunes could never move you. You were as exactly as

وَ لَا تُزِيْلُهُ الْقَوَاصِفُ

كُنْتَ كَمَا قَالَ رَسُوْلُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَ الِهِ

described by Allah's Messenger-peace be upon him and his

قوِيًّا فِيْ بَدَنِكَ

Household—who said about you that you are strong in your

مُتَوَاضِعًا فِيْ نَفْسِكَ

عَظِيْمًا عِنْدَ اللهِ

body, modest in yourself, great in the view of Allah, imposing

كَبِيْرًا فِي الْاَرْضِ

in the earth, and lofty in the heavens. None could ever find

جَلِيْلًا فِي السَّمَاءِ،

لمُ يَكُنْ لِاَحَدٍ فِيْكَ مَهْمَزٌ

fault with you, none could ever speak evil of you, you never

وَ لَا لِقَائِلٍ فِيْكَ مَغْمَزٌ

وَ لَا لِخَلْقٍ فِيْكَ مَظْمَعُ

desired for any of the created beings, and you were never

وَ لَا لِآَحَدٍ عِنْدَكَ هَوَادَةً

lenient (unfairly) to anyone. The weak, humble one was

يُوْجَدُ الضَّعِيْفُ الذَّلِيلُ عِئْدَكَ قَوِيَّا عَزِيْزًا حَتِّى تَأْخذَ لَهُ بِحَقِّهِ

strong and mighty in your view until you give him back his

وَ الْقَوِيِّ الْعَزِيْزُ عِنْدَكَ ضَعِيفًا [ذَلِيْلًا] حَثِّى تَأْخُذَ مِنْهُ الْحَقَّ

right, and the strong, mighty one was weak in your view until

الْقَرِيْبُ وَ الْبَعِيْدُ عِنْدَكَ فِيْ ذلِكَ سَوَآءً

you take the others' rights from him. The near and the remote were equal in your view. Your habit was to be true,

شَأنُكَ الْحَقُّ وَ الصِّدْقُ وَ الرِّفْقُ

honest, and kind, your words were ruling and determination,

وَ قَوْلَكَ حُكْمٌ وَ حَثْمٌ

your custom was forbearance and fortitude, and your view

وَ رَأَيُكَ عِلْمٌ وَ حَزْمٌ [وَ جَزْمُ]

was knowledge and firmness.

اِعْتَدَلَ بِكَ الدِّيْنُ

وَ سَهُلَ بِكَ الْعَسِيْرُ

At your hands, the religion became even, the difficult became

وَ أُظفِئَثْ بِكَ النِّيْرَانُ

وَ قَوِيَ بِكَ الْاِيْمَانُ

easy, the fires were extinguished, the faith became strong,

وَ ثَبَتَ بِكَ الْإِسْلَامُ

Islam became steady, and the calamity of losing you

وَ هَدَّثْ مُصِيْبَثُكَ الْأَنَامَ

فَاِنَّا للهِ وَ اِنَّا اِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُوْنَ

undermined all people. Surely, we are Allah's and to Him we

لَعَنَ اللهُ مَنْ قَتَلَكَ،

shall surely return. Curse of Allah be upon him who slew you,

وَ لَعَنَ اللهُ مَنْ خَالَفَكَ

curse of Allah be upon him who mutinied against you, curse

وَلَعَنَ اللهُ مَنِ افْتَرْى عَلَيْكَ

of Allah be upon him who forged lies against you, curse of

وَ لَعَنَ اللهُ مَنْ ظَلَمَكَ وَ غَصَبَكَ حَقَّكَ

Allah be upon him who wronged you. and usurped your right,

وَ لَعَنَ اللهُ مَنْ بَلَغَهُ ذلِكَ فَرَضِيَ بِهِ

and curse of Allah be upon him who, when was informed

اِنَّا اِلَى اللّهِ مِنْهُمْ بُرَآءُ

about this, was pleased with it. Verily, we disavow all those

لَعَنَ اللهُ أُمَّةً خَالَفَثْكَ

before Allah. Curse of Allah be upon the group that disagreed

وَ جَحَدَثْ وِلَا يَتَكَ

with you, denied your (Divinely commissioned) leadership,

وَ تَظَاهَرَثْ عَلَيْكَ وَ قَتَلَثْكَ

aided each other against you, slew you, deviated from you,

وَ حَادَثْ عَنْكَ وَ خَذَلَثْكَ

and disappointed you. All praise be to Allah, for Hellfire is the

الْحَمْدُ للهِ الَّذِيْ جَعَلَ النَّارَ مَثوَاهُمْ

abode of those and evil the place to which they are brought. 1

وَ بِئْسَ الْوِزْدُ الْمَوْرُوْدُ

bear witness for you, O Intimate servant of Allah and loyalist

آَشهَدُ لَكَ يَا وَلِيَّ اللهِ وَ وَلِيَّ رَسُوْلِهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَ ألِهِ بِالْبَلَاغِ وَ الْاَدَآءِ [وَ

of Allah's Messenger, peace be upon him and his Household,

النَّصيْحَةِ]

that you did convey and carry out (your mission). And I bear

وَ اَشْهَدُ اَنَّكَ حَبِيْبُ [جَنْبُ] اللهِ وَ بَابُهُ

witness that you are the beloved of Allah and the door to

وَ أَنَّكَ جَنْبُ [حَبِيْبُ] اللّهِ وَ وَجْهُهُ الَّذِيْ مِنْهُ يُؤْثَى

Him, you are the Side of Allah and His Face from which one

وَ آَنَّكَ سَبِيْلُ اللهِ

can come to Allah, you are Allah's way, you are Allah's

وَ اَنَّكَ عَبْدُ اللهِ

servant, and you are the brother of His Messenger, peace be

وَ اَخُوْ رَسُوْلِهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَ ألِهِ

upon him and his Household. I have thus come to visit you

أَتَيْثُكَ زَآئِرًا لِعَظِيْمِ حَالِكَ وَ مَنْزِلَتِكَ عِنْدَ اللهِ وَ عِنْدَ رَسُوْلِهِ

because you enjoy a magnificent position and standing with

مُتَقَرِّبًا إِلَى اللهِ بِزِيَارَتِكَ

Allah and with His Messenger. So, I seek nearness to Allah

رَاغِبًا اِلَيْكَ فِي الشَّفَاعَةِ،

through my visit to you and I desire that you will intercede for

اَبْتَغِي بِشَفَاعَتِكَ خَلَاصَ نَفْسِيْ

me. Through your intercession for me, I hope for redemption

مُتَعَوِّذًا بِكَ مِنَ النَّارِ

of myself, I seek refuge with you against Hellfire, l am fleeing

هَارِبًا مِنْ ذُنُوْبِيَ الَّتِي اخْتَطَبْتُهَا عَلَى ظَهْرِيْ

from my sins that I have overburdened myself with them, and

فَزِعًا اِلَيْكَ رَجَاءَ رَحْمَةٍ رَبَّي

I resort to you in the hope of my Lord's mercy. I have come to

أَتَيْتُكَ اَسْتَشْفِعُ بِكَ يَا مَوْلَايَ إِلَى اللهِ

you, O my master, seeking your intercession for me before

وَ أَتَقَرَّبُ بِكَ اِلَيْهِ لِيَقْضِيَ بِكَ حَوَائِجِيْ

Allah and seeking nearness to Him through you so that He

فَاشفَعْ لِيْ يَا أَمِيْرَ الْمُؤْمِنِيْنَ

may settle my needs; so, (please)intercede for me, 0

اِلَى اللهِ فَإِنَّيْ عَبْدُ اللهِ وَ مَؤْلَاكَ وَ زَآئِرُكَ

Commander of the Faithful. Verily, I am the slave of Allah and

وَ لَكَ عِنْدَ اللّهِ الْمَقَامُ الْمَعْلَوْمُ

your servant and visitor, and you enjoy a distinguished

وَ الْجَاهُ الْعَظِيمُ

position with Allah, a great rank, a big standing, and an

وَ الشَّأْنُ الْكَبِيْرُ

وَ الشَّفَاعَةُ الْمَقْبُوْلَةُ

admitted right of intercession.

اَللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَال مُحَمَّدٍ

O Allah, (please do) send blessings upon Muhammad and

وَ صَلَّ عَلَى عَبْدِكَ وَ اَمِيْنِكَ الْاَوْفِى

the Household of Muhammad and send blessings upon Your

وَ عُرْوَتِكَ الْوُثْقَى

servant, Your most faithful trustee, Your firmest handle, Your

وَ يَدِكَ الْعُلْيَا

وَ كَلِمَتِكَ الْحُسْتَى

وَ حُجَّتِكَ عَلَى الْوَرْى

highest Hand, Your excellent Word, Your argument on the

وَ صِدَّيْقِكَ الْاَكْبَرِ

سَيِّدِ الْأَوْصِيَاءِ

people, Your grandest veracious one, the chief of the

وَ رُكْنِ الْاَوْلِيَاءِ

Prophets' successors, the reliance of the saints, the support

وَ عِمَادِ الْاَضفِيَآءِ

آَمِيْرِ الْمُؤْمِنِيْنَ

of the elite ones, the commander of the faithful, the leader of

وَ يَعْسُوْبٍ الْمُتَّقِيْنَ

the pious ones, the example of the veracious ones, the

وَ قُدْوَةِ الصَّدِّيْقِيْنَ

وَ اِمَامِ الضَّالِحِيْنَ،

pattern of the righteous ones, the one protected against

الْمَغْصُوْمِ مِنَ الزَّلَلِ

وَ الْمَفْطُوْمِ مِنَ الْخَلَلِ

flaws, the one saved from defects, the one cleared from

وَ الْمُهَذَّبِ مِنَ الْعَيْبِ

وَ الْمُطَهَّرِ مِنَ الرَّيْبِ

faults, the one purified from doubts, the brother of Your

آَخِي نَبِيِّكَ

وَ وَصِيِّ رَسُوْلِكَ

Prophet, the successor of Your Messenger, the one who

وَ البَآئِتِ عَلَى فِرَاشِهِ

replaced him when he spent that night instead of him, the

وَ الْمُوَاسِيْ لَهُ بِنَفْيِيهِ

one who sacrificed his soul for him, the one who always

وَ كَاشِفِ الْكَزْبِ عَنْ وَجْهِهِ

relieved him in harsh situations, and the one whom You

الَّذِيْ جَعَلْتَهُ سَيْفًا لِنُبُوَّتِهِ

chose to be the sword of his (i.e. the Prophet) Prophethood,

وَ مُعْجِزًا لِرِسَالتِهِ

وَ دِلَالَةً وَاضِحَةً لِحُجَتِهِ

the miracle of his (Divine) mission, the lucid indication of his

وَ حَامِلًا لِرَايَتِهِ

arguments, the bearer of his pennon, the protector of his

وَ وِقَايَةً لِمُهْجَتِهِ

وَ هَادِيًا لأُمَّتِهِ

soul, the guide of his nation, the power of his might, the

وَ يَدًا لِبَأسِهِ

وَ تَاجًا لِرَأْسِهِ

وَ بَابًا لِنَصْرِهِ

وَ مِفْتَاحًا لِظَفَرِهِ

crown of his head, the door to his victory, and the key to his

حَثّى هَزَمَ جُنُوْدَ الشِّرْكِ بِاَيْدِكَ

triumph, until he defeated the armies of polytheism by Your

وَ اَبَادَ عَسَاكِرَ الْكُفْرِ بِامْرِكَ

aid, terminated the warriors of atheism by Your permission,

وَ بَدَلَ نَفْسَهُ فِيْ مَرْضَاتِكَ وَ مَرْضَاةِ رَسُوْلِكَ

exerted all efforts to win the pleasure of You and Your

وَ جَعَلَهَا وَقْفًا عَلَى طَاعَتِهِ

Messenger, devoted all of his efforts to the obedience to him,

وَ مَجِنًّا دُوْنَ نَكْبَتِهِ

and made of himself armor to protect him from any

حَتَّى فَاضَتْ نَفْسُهُ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَ ألِهِ فِيْ كَفِّهِ

misfortune, until the soul of the Prophet, peace be upon him

وَ اسْتَلَبَ بَرْدَهَا،

and his Household, departed his body while his face was in

وَ مَسَحَهُ عَلَى وَجْهِهِ

the hand of 'Ali, who thus felt its coldness, and rubbed his

وَ اَعَانَتْهُ مَلَائِكَتُكَ عَلَى غُسْلِهِ وَ تَجْهِيْزِهِ

face therewith. And Your angels helped him bathe and

وَ صَلَّى عَلَيْهِ وَ وَازِى شَخْصَهُ

وَ قَضْى دَيْنَهُ

prepare his body for burial. He then performed [the ritual]

وَ اَنْجَزَ وَعْدَهُ

prayer for him, buried his body, settled his debts, fulfilled his

وَ لَزِمَ عَهْدَهُ

وَ اختَذْى مِثَالَهُ

promises, made his covenants, followed his example, and

وَ حَفِظَ وَصِيَّتَهُ

abode by his will. When he could find supporters, he

وَ حِيْنَ وَجَدَ أَنْصَارًا نَهَضَ مُسْتَقِلَا بِاعْبَآءِ الْخِلَافَةِ

undertook the burdens of the position of leadership

مُضْطَلِعًا بِاَثْقَالِ الْإِمَامَةِ

(caliphate) and assumed the loads of Imamate. He thus

فَنَصَبَ رَايَةَ الْهُدْى فِيْ عِبَادِكَ

hoisted the flag of true guidance among Your servants,

وَ نَشَرَ ثَوْبَ الْأَمْنِ فِيْ بِلَادِكَ

spread the dress of security in Your lands, extended justice

وَ بَسَطَ العَدْل فِيْ بَرِيَّتِكَ

وَ حَكَمَ بِكِتَابِكَ فِيْ خَلِيْقَتِكَ

among Your creatures, judged according to Your Book

وَ اَقَامَ الْحُدُوْدَ

وَ قَمَعَ الْجُحُوْدَ

among your beings, executed the laws, suppressed unbelief,

وَ قَوَّمَ الزِّيْغَ

rectified the deviation, mollified the criticism, eradicated

وَ سَكَّنَ الْغَمْرَةَ

وَ اَبَادَ الْفَثْرَةَ

وَ سَدَّ الْفُرْجَةُ

lethargy, blocked the gap, killed the preachers, the

وَ قَتَلَ النَّاكِثَةَ وَ الْقَاسِطَةَ وَ الْمَارِقَةَ

wrongdoers, and the apostates, kept on following the course

وَ لَمْ يَزَلْ عَلْى مِنْهَاجِ رَسُوْلِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَ ألِهِ وَ وَتِيْرَتِهِ

and tradition of Allah's Messenger, peace be upon him and

وَ لَطْفِ شَاكِلَتِهِ

وَ جَمَال سِيْرَتِهِ

his Household, kept on following his excellent pattern, kept

مُقْتَدِيَا بِسُنَّتِهِ

on following his superb practice, he imitated his convention,

مُتَعَلَّقًا بِهمَتِهِ

held fast to his morale, and copied his way (of treating with

مُبَاشِرًا لِطَرِيْقَتِهِ

matters). And he always noticed the Prophet's deeds as if

وَ اَمْثِلَتُهُ نَصْبُ عَيْنَيْهِ

they were before his eyes; he thus ordered Your servants to

يَحْمِلُ عِبَادَكَ عَلَيْهَا

وَ يَدْعُوْهُمْ اِليْهَا

copy these deeds and invited them to imitate them until his

إِلَى آَنْ خُضِبَتْ شَيْبَثُهُ مِنْ دَمِ رَأْسِهِ

white beard was dyed with the blood of his head. O Allah, as

اَللّهُمَّ فَكَمَا لَمْ يُؤْثِرْ فِيْ طَاعَتِكَ شَكًّا عَلَى يَقِيْنٍ

he never preferred a dubious matter to a certain one for the

وَ لَمْ يُشْرِكُ بِكَ طَرْفَةَ عَيْنِ

sake of obeying You and never associated any one with You

صَلَّ عَلَيْهِ صَلَاةً زَاكِيَةً نَامِيَةً

even for a winking of an eye, please send upon him growing and increasing blessings due to which he may join the

يَلْحَقُ بِهَا دَرَجَةَ النُّبُوَةِ فِيْ جَنَّتِكَ

position of Prophethood in Your Paradise, and (please)

وَ بَلَّغْهُ مِنَّا تَحِيَّةً وَ سَلَامًا

convey our greetings and compliments to him and, on

وَ أَتِنَا مِنْ لَدُنْكَ فِيْ مُوَالَاتِهِ فَضْلَا وَ إِخْسَانًا

account of our allegiance to his leadership, please grant us

وَ مَغْفِرَةً وَ رِضْوَانًا

from You favor, kindness, forgiveness, and pleasure. You are

اِنَّكَ ذُوْ الْفَضْلِ الْجَسِيْهِ

verily the Lord of enormous favor. [please do that] in the

بِرَحْمَتِكَ يَآ أَرْحَمَ الرَّاحِمِيْنَ.

name of Your mercy, O most merciful of all those who show mercy.

اَللّهُمَّ اِنَّكَ بَشَّرْتَنِيْ

O Allah, You have conveyed to me glad tidings through Your

عَلَى لِسَانِ نَبِيِّكَ وَ رَسُوْلِكَ

Prophet and Messenger Muhammad, Your peace be upon

مُحَمَدٍ صَلَوَاتُكَ عَلَيْهِ وَ الِهِ

him and his Household, as You said, "And give good news to

فَقُلْتَ: "وَ بَشَّرِ الَّذِيْنَ امَنُوا اَنَّ لَهُمْ قَدَمَ صِدْقٍ عِنْدَ رَبَّهِمْ"

those who believe that theirs is a footing of firmness with

اَللَّهُمّ وَ إِنَّي مُؤْمِنُ بِجَمِيْعِ انْبِيَآئِكَ وَ رُسُلِكَ صَلَوَاثُكَ عَلَيْهِمْ

their Lord." O Allah, I indeed believe in all Your Prophets and Messengers, Your blessings be upon them. So, (please) do

فَلَا تَقِفْنِيْ بَعْدَ مَعْرِفَتِهِمْ مَوْقِفًا

not cause me, after my recognition of them, to be in a

تَفْضَحْنِي فِيْهِ عَلْى رُءُوْسِ الْاشهَادِ

situation due to which You expose me in the presence of the

بَلْ قِفْنِي مَعَهُمْ وَ تَوَفِّيِيْ عَلَى التَّصْدِيْقِ بِهِمْ

Witnesses, rather, (please) include me with them and make me die while I give them credence. O Allah, You have also

اَللّهُمَّ وَ آَنْتَ خَصَّصتَهُمْ بِكَرَامَتِكَ

bestowed upon them exclusive honor from You and You have

وَ اَمَرْتَنِيْ بِاتَّبَاعِهِمْ

ordered me to follow them. O Allah, l am Your slave and

اَللّهُمَّ وَ إِنَّيْ عَبْدُكَ وَ زَائِرُكَ

visitor, seeking Your nearness through visiting the brother of

مُتَقَرِّبًا اِلَيْكَ بِزِيَارَةِ آَخِيْ رَسُوْلِكَ

Your Messenger. Indeed, each visited person is expected to

وَ عَلَى كُلِّ مَأْتِيِّ وَ مَزُوْرٍ حَقٌّ لِمَنْ آَنَاهُ وَ زَارَهُ

pay attention to his duty towards the one who visits and

وَ أَنْتَ خَيْرُ مَأَتِيِّ

comes to him. And You are the Best One to Whom one may

وَ اكْرَمُ مَزُوْرٍ

come and You are the most Generous One to be visited; l

فَاسْاَلُكَ يَآ اَللهُ يَا رَحْمَانُ يَا رَحِيْمُ

therefore beseech You, O Allah, O All-beneficent, O All-

يَا جَوَادُ يَا مَاجِدُ

يَا اَحَدُ يَا صَمَدُ

merciful, O All-magnanimous, O All-glorious, O One, 0

يَا مَنْ لَمْ يَلِدْ وَ لَمْ يُؤْلَدْ

Besought of all, O He Who never begets nor is He begotten,

وَ لَمْ يَكُنْ لَهُ كُفُوَا اَحَدٌ

and the like of Whom is none, O He Who has not betaken

وَ لَمْ يَتَّخِذْ صَاحِبَةً وَ لَا وَلَدًا

wife or child, (l beseech You) to send blessings upon

آَنْ تُصَلِّيَ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَ أل مُحَمَّدٍ،

Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad, to choose

وَ اَنْ تَجْعَلَ ثُخْفَتَكَ اِيَايَ مِنْ زِيَارَتِي آَخَا رَسُوْلِكَ

the gift that You present to me on account of my visiting

فَكَاكَ رَقَبَتِيْ مِنَ النَّارِ

Your Messenger's brother to be release of me from Hellfire,

وَ آَنْ تَجْعَلَنِي مِمَّنْ يُسَارِعُ فِي الْخَيْرَاتِ

to include me with those who strive with one another in

وَ يَدْعُوْكَ رَغَبًا وَ رَهَبَا

hastening to good deeds and those who call on You with love

وَتَجْعَلَنِي لَكَ مِنَ الْخَاشِعِيْنَ

and reverence, and to make me of those who are humble before You. O Allah, You have indeed conferred upon me with

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنَّكَ مَنَثتَ عَلَيَّ بِزِيَارَةِ مَؤْلَايَ عَلِيَّ بْنِ اَبِي طَالِبِ

the favor of visiting my master 'Ali the son of Abu-Talib and with the favor of my being loyal to his (Divinely

وَ وِلايَتِهِ وَ مَعْرِفَتِهِ

commissioned) leadership and recognition of him; so,

فَاجْعَلْنِي مِمَّنْ يَنْصُرُهُ وَ يَنْتَصِرُ بِهِ

(please) make me of those whom You give victory and whom You choose to triumph through them. And (please) bestow

وَ مُنَّ عَلَيَّ بِنَضْرِكَ لِدِيْنِكَ

me with the favor of making me support Your religion. O

اَللَّهُمَ وَ اجْعَلْنِي مِنْ شِيْعَتِهِ وَتَوَفَّنِي عَلَى دِيْنِهِ

Allah, (please) include me with the adherents of him and

اَللَّهُمَّ اَوْجِبْ لِيْ مِنَ الرَّحْمَةِ وَ الرِّضْوَانِ

cause me to die following his doctrine. O Allah, (please)

وَ الْمَغْفِرَةِ وَ الْإِحْسَانِ

cause me to deserve mercy, pleasure, forgiveness, favor, and

وَ الرَّزْقِ الْوَاسِعِ الْحَلَالِ الطَيَّبِ

sustenance that is growing, legally gotten, and pleasant, (and

مَا آَنْتَ اَهْلُهُ يَآ اَرْحَمَ الرَّاحِمِيْنَ

make it) suitable to Your favoring, O most merciful of all

وَ الْحَمْدُ للهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِيْنَ.

those who show mercy! All praise be to Allah the Lord of the worlds.

رَجِمَكَ اللهُ يَا أَبَا الْحَسَنِ

May Allah have mercy upon you, O Abu'l-Hasan. You were the

كُنْتَ اَوَلَ الْقَوْمِ اِسْلَامًا وَ اَخْلَصَهُمْ اِيْمَانًا

first of all to accept Islam and the most sincere of all in faith the most confident, the most Allah-fearing... He also mentioned many of Imam 'Ali's characteristics and merits. However, the statements ot this sermon are to a

وَ اشَدَّهُمْ يَقِيْنًا

certain extent similar to the statements of the abovementioned form of ziyarah. It is thus appropriate to consider these statements to be a form of ziyarah this is advisably said on the day of Imam 'Ali's martyrdom. In my book of Hadiyyat alZa'ir, I have written down these statements. It is also worth mentioning that in the previous chapter of the merits of the Divine Mission Day, I have mentioned the words of Ibn Battutah, a famous Arab explorer, about the holy shrine

وَ اَخْوَفَهُمْ للَهُ...

of Imam 'Ali ('a).
