Virtues, description, and recitation method of SALAWAT ON IMAM HUSAYN (A) as recorded in Shia traditions.

اَللَّهُمَّ صَلَّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَ ال مُحَمَّدٍ

Within the recommended acts on the 'Ashura' Day, I have cited a form of ziyarah of Imam al-Husayn ('a). At the end of this section, l will mention another invocation of blessings upon the Immaculate Imams ('a), which comprises a brief invocation of blessings upon Imam al-Husayn ('a) exclusively. So, do not miss these invocations. O Allah, (please) send blessings upon Muhammad and the

وَ صَلِّ عَلَى الْحُسَيْنِ الْمَظْلُوْمِ الشَّهِيْدِ

Household of Muhammad and send blessings upon al-

قَتِيْلِ الْعَبَرَاتِ وَ اَسِيْرِ الْكُرُبَاتِ

Husayn, the wronged,the martyred, the victim of shed tears,

صَلَاةً نَامِيَةً زَاكِيَةً مُبَارَكَةً

and the captive of agonies withever-increasing, pure, and

يَضْعَدُ أَوَّلَهَا وَ لَا يَنْفَدُ أخِرُهَا

Sacred blessings the first of which ascend and the last of

اَفْضَلَ مَا صَلَّيْتَ عَلَى اَحَدٍ

which never run out; with the best manner that You have ever

مِنْ أَوْلَادِ الْاَنْبِيَاءِ وَ الْمُرْسَلِيْنَ

conferred upon any of the descendants of the Prophets and

يَا رَبَّ الْعَالَمِيْنَ

Messengers, O Lord of the worlds! O Allah, send blessings

اَللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى الْاِمَامِ الشَّهِيْدِ

upon the Imam, the martyr, the slain, the wronged,the

الْمَقْتُوْلِ الْمَظْلُوْمِ الْمَخْذُوْلِ

disappointed, the leading master, the worshipper, the

وَ السَّيِّدِ الْقَائِدِ وَ الْعَابِدِ الزَّاهِدِ

abstemious, the successor, the vicegerent, the leader, the

الْوَصِيِّ الْخَلِيْفَةِ الْاِمَامِ الصِّدِّيْقِ

الطُهْرِ الطَاهِرِ الطَّيِّبِ الْمُبَارَكِ

veracious, the pure, the immaculate, the superb, the blessed,

وَ الرَّضِيِّ الْمَرْضِيِّ وَ التَّقِيِّ الهَادِي الْمَهْدِيَّ

the amiable, the pleased, the pious, the guide, the well- guided, the abstemious, the defender (of Islam), the striver,

الزَّاهِدِ الذَّائِدِ الْمُجَاهِدِ الْعَالِمِ

the knowledgeable, the leader of true guidance, the grandson

اِمَامِ الْهُدْى سِبْطِ الرَّسُوْلِ وَ قُرَّةٍ عَيْنِ الْبَثُوْلِ

of the Messenger, and the delight of the eye of the Chaste

اَللَهُمَّ صَلَّ عَلَى سَيَّدِيْ وَ مَؤْلَايَ

Lady. O Allah, send blessings upon my master and chief for

كَمَا عَمِلَ بِطَاعَتِكَ

he acted obediently to You, warned against disobeying You,

وَ نَهَى عَنْ مَعْصِيَتِكَ

وَ بَالَغَ فِيْ رِضْوَانِكَ

وَ اَقْبَلَ عَلَى اِيْمَانِكَ

made all efforts to attain Your pleasure, warmly received

غَيْرَ قَابِلٍ فِيْكَ عُذْرًا

belief in You, rejected all excuses against You, called the

سِرًّا وَ عَلَانِيَةً يَدْعُوْ الْعِبَادَ اِلَيْكَ

servants to You secretly and openly, showed them the way to

وَ يَدُلَهُمْ عَلَيْكَ

You, undertook in obedience to You the mission of

وَ قَامَ بَيْنَ يَدَيْكَ

يَهْدِمُ الجَوْرَ بِالصَّوَابِ

وَ يُخِيِيْ السُّنَّةَ بِالْكِتَابِ

demolishing inequity with rectitude and refreshing the

فَعَاشَ فِيْ رِضْوَانِكَ مَكْدُوْدًا

traditions in the (light of the) Book. So, he lived in fatigue for

وَ مَضى عَلَى طَاعَتِكَ وَ فِيْ آَوْلِيَآئِكَ مَكْدُوْحًا

the sake of Your pleasure and passed away in obedience to You, working hard for the sake of Your Intimate Servants. He

وَ قَضى اِلَيْكَ مَفْقُوْدًا

thus joined You missed (by the believers). He never

لَمْ يَعْصِكَ فِيْ لَيْلٍ وَ لَا نَهَارٍ

disobeyed You, neither at night nor in day; rather, he, for Your

بَلْ جَاهَدَ فِيْكَ الْمُنَافِقِيْنَ وَ الْكُفَّارَ

sake, strove against the hypocrites and the unbelievers. So, 0

اَللَّهُمَّ فَاجْزِهِ خَيْرَ جَزَاءِ الصَّادِقِيْنَ الْابْرَارِ

Allah, (please) award him with the best reward of the veracious and the righteous and multiply the chastisement

وَ ضَاعِفْ عَلَيْهِمُ الْعَذَابَ وَ لِقَاتِلِيْهِ الْعِقَابَ

and the punishment for those who slew him. Verily, he fought

فَقَدْ قَاتَلَ كَرِيْمًا وَ قُتِلَ مَظْلُوْمًا وَ مَضى مَرْحُوْمًا

with nobility, was slain wrongly, and passed away enjoying

يَقُوْلَ آَنَا ابْنُ رَسُوْلِ اللهِ مُحَمَّدٍ

mercy. He said to them, "I am the son of Allah's Messenger

وَ ابْنُ مَنْ زَكَّى وَ عَبَدَ

Muhammad and the son of him who gave alms and served

فَقَتَلُوهُ بِالْعَمْدِ الْمُعْتَمَدِ

قَتَلُوْهُ عَلَى الْاِيْمَانِ

Allah. Yet, they slew him clearly intentionally. They slew him

وَ اَطَاعُوا فِي قَثلِهِ الشَّيْطَانَ

because of his faith, therefore, they obeyed Satan and never

وَ لَمْ يُرَاقِبُوْا فِيْهِ الرَّحْمْنَ-

cared for the All-beneficent Lord. So, O Allah, (please) send

اَللَّهُمّ فَصَلَّ عَلَى سَيَّدِيْ وَ مَوْلَايَ

upon my master and chief such blessings by which You raise

صَلَاةً تَرْفَعُ بِهَا ذِكْرَهُ

وَ تُظْهِرُ بِهَا آَمْرَهُ

وَ تُعَجِّلُ بِهَا نَضْرَهُ

his eminence, make prevalent his issue, and hasten his

وَ اخْصُصْهُ بِاَفْضَلِ قِسَمِ الْفَضَائِلِ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ

victory. And (please) endue him on the Resurrection day with

وَ زِذْهُ شَرَفًا فِيْ اَعْلَى عِلَيِّيْنَ

the best of Your favors, increase his honor to the highest

وَ بَلَّغْهُ اَعْلَى شَرَفِ الْمُكَرَّمِيْنَ

degree of the Supreme Rank, take him higher to the highest

وَ ازْفَعَهُ مِنْ شَرَفِ رَحْمَتِكَ

rank of the honored ones, raise him in the honor of Your

فِيْ شَرَفِ المُقَرَّبِيْنَ

mercy to the honor of the most favorable ones in the Highest

فِيْ الرَّفِيْعِ الْاَعْلَى

Level, grant him the right of mediation, the loftiest position,

وَ بَلِّغْهُ الْوَسِيْلَةَ وَ الْمَنْزِلَةَ الْجَلِيْلَةَ

the superiority, the excellence, and the abundant privilege. 0

وَ الْفَضْلَ وَ الْفَضِيلَةَ

وَ الكَرَامَةَ الْجَزِيْلَةَ

Allah, (please) award him on behalf of us with the most

اَللّهُمّ فَاجِزِهِ عَنَّا اَفْضَلَ مَا جَازَيْتَ اِمَامًا عَنْ رَعِيَّتِهِ

excellent reward that You have ever given to a leader on

وَ صَلَّ عَلَى سَيَّدِيْ وَ مَؤْلَايَ كُلَّمَا ذُكِرَ

behalf of his subjects and bless my master and chief

وَ كُلِّمَا لَمْ يُذْكَزْ

whenever he is mentioned and whenever he is not. O my

يَا سَيِّدِيْ وَ مَوْلَايَ

اَذْخِلْنِي فِيْ حِزْبِكَ وَ زُمْرَتِكَ

master and chief, include me with your party and group and

وَ اسْتَوْهِبْنِيْ مِنْ رَبَّكَ وَ رَبِّيْ

ask my and your Lord to release me as grant from Him to

فَاِنَّ لَكَ عِنْدَ اللهِ جَاهًا وَ قَدْرًا

you, for you verily enjoy a special esteem and value with

وَ مَنْزِلَةً رَفِيْعَةً

اِنْ سَالْتَ اُعْطِيْتَ

Allah as well as a lofty standing: if you ask, He gives you and

وَ اِنْ شَفَعْتَ شُفِّعْتَ

if you intercede, He admits your intercession. By Allah l ask

اللّهَ اللّهَ فِيْ عَبْدِكَ وَ مَؤْلَاكَ

لَا تُخَلَّنِي عِنْدَ الشَّدَائِدِ وَ الْأَهْوَالِ

you to regard me, your slave and servant. Do not desert me

لِسُوَءِ عَمَلِيْ وَ قَبِيْحِ فِعْلِيْ وَ عَظِيْمِ جُرْمِيْ

at the time of ordeals and horrors because of my evildoing,

فَاِنَّكَ اَمَلِيْ وَ رَجَائِيْ

misconduct, and enormous offenses. You are verily my hope

وَ ثِقَتِيْ وَ مُعْتَمَدِيْ

and my wish, I have confidence in you, I rely upon you, and

وَ وَسِيْلَتِي إِلَى اللهِ رَبَّيْ وَ رَبَّكَ

you are my means to Allah, my and your Lord. No means that

لَمْ يَتَوَسَّلِ الْمُتَوَسِّلُوْنَ اِلَى اللهِ

بِوَسِيْلَةِ هِيَ اَعْظَمُ حَقًا

has been made to Allah is greater in status, more incumbent

وَ لَا اَوْجَبُ حُرْمَةً

in sanctity, or loftier in eminence than yours, the Ahl al-Bayt,

وَ لَا اَجَلَّ قَدْرًا

in the sight of Allah. May Allah never cause me to lag behind

عِنْدَهُ مِنْكُمْ آَهْلَ الْبَيْتِ

you because of my sins and may He join me with you in the

لَا خَلَّفَنِيَ اللهُ عَثْكُمْ بِذُنُوْبِيْ

وَ جَمَعَنِي وَ اِيَّاكُمْ فِيْ جَنَّةٍ عَذْنٍ

perpetual abode of Paradise that He has prepared for you

الَتِيّ اَعَدَّهَا لَكُمْ وَ لِاَوْلِيَائِكُمْ

and your loyalists. Verily, He is the best of all those who may

اِنَّهُ خَيْرُ الْغَافِرِيْنَ وَ اَرْحَمُ الرَّاحِمِيْنَ

forgive and the most merciful of all those who show mercy.

اَللَهُمَّ اَبْلِغْ سَيَّدِيْ وَ مَؤْلَاي

O Allah, (please) convey to my master and chief abundant

تَحِيَّةًّ كَثِيْرَةً وَ سَلَامًا

وَ ازْدُدْ عَلَيْنَا مِنْهُ السَّلَامَ

greetings and salutations and convey to us his response to

إِنَّكَ جَوَادٌ كَرِيْمٌ

our greetings. You are verily All-magnanimous and All-

وَ صَلَّ عَلَيْهِ كُلَّمَا ذُكِرَ السَّلَامُ

generous. And bless him whenever blessing is mentioned

وَ كُلَّمَا لَمْ يُذْكَزْ يَا رَبَّ الْعَالَمِيْنَ.
