Virtues, description, and recitation method of ETIQUETTES TO BE OBSERVED DURING JOURNEY TO IMAM as recorded in Shia traditions.
اَللَّهُمَّ إِنَّيْ اَسْتَوْدِعْكَ الْيَوْمَ نَفْسِيْ وَ آَهْلِيْ
O Allah, I beseech You on this day to accept as trusts with
وَ مَالِيْ وَ وُلَدِيْ
You my self, my family members, my property, my children,
وَ كُلِّ مَنْ كَانَ مِنَّيْ بِسَبِيْلٍ
whatever belongs to me, and whatever for which l am
الشَّاهِدَ مِنْهُمْ وَ الْغَائِبَ
responsible, the present and the absent. O Allah, (please do)
اَللَهمَّ احْفَظُنَا [بِجِفْظِكَ] بِحِفْظِ الْإيمَانِ وَ احفَظُ عَلَينَا
protect us with the protection of faith and safeguard us. 0
اَللّهُمَّ اجْعَلْنَا فِيْ جِزْزِكَ
Allah, (please do) make us under Your shelter, do not deprive
وَ لَا تَسْلُبْنَا نِعْمَتَكَ
us of Your bounty, do not change the bliss and good health
وَ لَا تُغَيِّرْ مَا بِنَا مِنْ نِعْمَةٍ وَ عَافِيَةٍ
وَ زِدْنَا مِنْ فَضْلِكَ
that we are enjoying, and provide us with more favor of You.
اِنَّآ اِلَيْكَ رَاغِبُوْنَ.
Indeed, we desire for You.
لَاَ اِلْهَ اِلَّا اللَّهُ
There is no god save Allah. Allah is the Most Great. All praise
اَللهُ اَكْبَرُ
اَلْحَمْدُ للهُ
be to Allah. The Imam ('a) explained, explained, haji)?" The Imam ('a) answered, "Yes, we are." Muhammad
اَللهُ اَكْبَرُ
family members.
لَا إِلْهَ اِلَّا اللَهُ
Allah is the Most Great. There is no god save Allah. O Allah,
اَللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَدٍ وَ آَلِ مُحَمَدٍ.
send blessings on Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad.
اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا وَارِثَ اَدَمَ صَفْوَةِ اللهِ
Peace be upon you, O inheritor of Adam the choice of Allah.
اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا وَارِثَ نُوْحِ نَبِيِّ اللهِ
Peace be upon you, O inheritor of Noah the prophet of Allah.
اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا وَارِثَ اِبْرَاهِيْمَ خَلِيْلِ اللهِ
Peace be upon you, O inheritor of Abraham the friend of
اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا وَارِثَ مُؤْسى كَلِيْمِ اللهِ
Allah. Peace be upon you, O inheritor of Moses the spoken by
اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا وَارِثَ عِيسْ رُوْحِ اللهِ
Allah. Peace be upon you, O inheritor of Jesus the spirit of
اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا وَارِثَ مُحَمَّدٍ حَبِيْبِ اللهِ
Allah. Peace be upon you, O inheritor of Muhammad the most-beloved of Allah. Peace be upon you, O inheritor of 'Ali
اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا وَارِثَ عَلِيِّ وَصِيِّ رَسُوْلِ اللهِ
the successor of Allah's Messenger. Peace be upon you, O
اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا وَارِثَ الْحَسَنِ الرَّضِيَّ
inheritor of al-Hasan the Well-pleased. Peace be upon you, 0
اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا وَارِثَ فَاطِمَةَ بِنْتِ رَسُوْلِ اللهِ
inheritor of Fatimah the daughter of Allah's Messenger.
اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ آَيُّهَا الشَّهِيْدُ الصِّدِّيْقُ
Peace be upon you, O martyr and veracious. Peace be upon
ٱَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ آَيُهَا الْوَصِيُ الْبَآرُ التَّقِيُ
you, O obedient and pious successor. Peace be upon the
اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَى الْأَرْوَاحِ الَّتِيْ حَلَّتْ بِفِنَآئِكَ وَ اَنَاخَثْ بِرَخِلِكَ
souls that resided in your yard and settled next to your place.
اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَى مَلَائِكَةِ اللهِ الْمُخْدِقِيْنَ بِكَ
Peace be upon the angels of Allah who keep eyes on you. l
اَشْهَدُ اَنَّكَ قَدْ اَقْمْتَ الصَّلَاةَ
bear witness that you performed the prayers, defrayed the
وَ أتَّيْتَ الزَّكَاةَ
وَ اَمَرْتَ بِالْمَعْرُوْفِ
وَ نَهَيْتَ عَنِ المُنْكَرِ
poor-rate, enjoined the right, forbade the evil, and served
وَ عَبَدْتَ اللهَ مُخْلِصًا حَتِّى آَتَاكَ الْيَقِيْنُ
Allah sincerely until death came upon you. Peace and Allah's
اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ وَ رَحْمَةُ اللهِ وَ بَرَكَاتُهُ.
mercy and blessings be upon you.
ٱَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا حُجَةَ اللهِ فِي آَرْضِهِ وَ سَمَآئِهِ.
Peace be upon you, O Allah's argument in His lands and heavens.
سُبْحَانَ الَذِيْ لَا تَنْفَدُ خَزَآئِنُهُ
Glory be to Him Whose reserves never rim out. Glory be to
سُبْحَانَ
Him Whose signs are never exterminated. Glory be to Him
الذِيْ
لَا تَبِيْدُ مَعَالِمُهُ
سُبْحَانَ الَذِيْ
Whose possessions never expire. Glory be to Him Who never
لا يَفْنَى مَا عِنْدَهُ
سُبْحَانَ الَذِيْ لَا يُشْرِكُ آَحَدًا فِي حُكْمِهِ
betakes to Himself a partner in His Judgements. Glory be to
سُبْحَانَ الَّذِيْ لَا اضْمِحْلَالَ لِفَخْرِهِ
Him Whose honor never vanishes. Glory be to Him Whose
سُبْحَانَ الَّذِيْ لَا انْقِطَاعَ لِمُدَّتِهِ
duration (of existence) is never interrupted. Glory be to Him
سُبْحَانَ الَّذِيْ لَا اِلْهَ غَيْرُهُ.
save Whom there is no god.
سُبْحَانَ ذِي الْجَلَالِ الْبَاذِخِ الْعَظِيمِ
Glory be to the Lord of majesty and exalted greatness. Glory
سُبْحَانَ ذِي العِزِّ الشَّامِخِ الْمُنِيْفِ
be to the Lord of honor and sublime authority. Glory be to the
سُبْحَانَ ذِي الْمُلْكِ الْفَاخِرِ الْقَدِيْمِ
Lord of eternal, splendid sovereignty. Glory be to the Lord of
سُبْحَانَ ذِي البَهْجَةِ وَ الجَمَالِ
splendor and beauty. Glory be to Him Who is clad in light and
سُبْحَانَ مَنْ تَرَدَّى بِالنُّوْرِ وَ الْوَقَارِ
dignity. Glory be to Him Who makes out the footprints of the
سُبْحَانَ مَنْ يَرْى آَثَرَ النَمْلِ فِيْ الصَفَا
ant on the stone and (the exact time and place of) the bird
وَ وَقَعَ الطَّيْرِ فِي الْهَوَاءِ.
dipping down through the air. supererogatory prayers inside the Ha'ir (i.e. courtyard of Imam alHusayn's holy shrine), because the reward of one obligatory prayer that is performed therein is equal to the reward of going on ritual pilgrimage (hajj) and the reward of offering a supererogatory prayer therein is equal to the
اَللَّهُمَّ قَدْ تَزْى مَكَانِيْ
equal to a supererogatory pilgrimage ('umrah)."
وَ تَسْمَعُ كَلَامِيْ
O Allah, You do see my place, hear my words, and see you
وَ تَزى مَقَامِي [مَكَانِيْ] وَ تَضَرُّعِيْ
situation, imploration, and seeking shelter with the tomb of
وَ مَلَاذِيْ بِقَبْرِ حُجَتِكَ وَ ابْنِ نَبِيِّكَ
Your Argument and Your Prophet's son. You, O my Master,
وَ قَدْ عَلِمْتَ يَا سَيَّدِيْ حَوَائِجِيْ
have already known my needs and none of my manners can
وَ لَا يَخْفِى عَلَيْكَ حَالِيْ
be hidden from You. I am now turning my face towards You
وَ قَدْ تَوَجَهْتُ اِلَيْكَ بِابْنِ رَسُوْلِكَ
in the name of Your Prophet's son, You Argument, and Your
وَ حُجَّتِكَ وَ اَمِيْنِكَ
trustee. I have come to You seeking nearness to You in his
وَ قَدْ اَتَّيْثُكَ مُتَقَرِّبًا بِهِ اِلَيْكَ وَ اِلْى رَسُوْلِكَ
name and in the name of Your Messenger. So, (please), in his
فَاجْعَلَنِي بِهِ عِنْدَكَ وَجِيْهًا
name, make me worthy of regard with You in this world and
فِي الدُّنْيَا وَ الأخِرَةِ وَ مِنَ الْمُقَرَّبِيْنَ
in the Hereafter and (make me) of those drawn near to You.
وَ اَعْطِنِي بِزِيَارَتِيْ اَمَلِيْ
And grant me, due to this visit of mine, what I hope, endue
وَ هَبْ لِيْ مُنَايَ
وَ تَفَضَّلْ عَلَيَّ بِشَهَوَتِي [بِسُؤْلِيْ] وَ رَغْبَتِيْ
me with my wish, favor me with my desire and aspiration,
وَ اقْضِ لِيْ حَوَائِجِيْ
وَ لَا تَرُدَّنِي خَائِبًا
settle for me my needs, do not reject me with
وَ لَا تَقْطَع رَجَائِيْ
disappointment, do not cut off my hope (in You), do not let
وَ لَا تُخَيِّبْ دُعَآئِيْ
وَ عَرِّفْنِي الْإِجَابَةَ فِيْ جَمِيْعِ مَا دَعَوْتُكَ
down my prayer, show me proofs of Your response to all that
مِنْ اَمْرِ الدِّيْنِ وَ الدُّنْيَا وَ الْأَخِرَةِ
which I prayed You for, including the affairs of my religion,
وَ اجْعَلْنِيْ مِنْ عِبَادِكَ
worldly life, and the Hereafter, include me with Your servants
الَّذِيْنَ صَرَفْتَ عَنْهُمُ الْبَلَايَا وَ الْاَمْرَاضَ
from whom You have warded off misfortunes, diseases,
وَ الْفِتَنَ وَ الْاَعْرَاضَ
مِنَ الَّذِيْنَ تُخِيِيْهِمْ فِيْ عَافِيَةٍ
seditious matters, and calamities; those whom You make live
وَثُمِيْتُهُمْ فِيْ عَافِيَةٍ
وَ تُدْخِلُهُمُ الْجَنَّةَ فِيْ عَافِيَةِ
in wellbeing, cause to die in wellbeing, allow to enter
وَ تُجِيْرُهُمْ مِنَ النَّارِ فِيْ عَافِيَةٍ
Paradise in wellbeing, and save from Hellfire in wellbeing;
وَ وَفَقْ لِيْ بِمَنَّ مِثْكَ
and, out of Your favor, lead me to the achievement of what l
صَلَاحَ مَا اُؤَّمَلُ فِيْ نَفْسِيْ
hope for regarding myself, my wife, my sons, my brethren-in-
وَآَهْلِي وَ ولَدِيْ وَ اِخْوَانِيْ وَ مَالِيْ
وَ جَمِيْعٍ مَا اَنْعَمْتَ بِهِ عَلَيَّ
faith, my properties, and whatever bliss You have endowed
يَآ أَرْحَمَ الرَّاحِمِيْنَ.
me; O most merciful of all those who show mercy!
