Virtues, description, and recitation method of BIDDING FAREWELL TO IMAM ALI (A) as recorded in Shia traditions.

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ وَ رَحْمَةُ اللهِ وَ بَرَكَاتُهُ

Peace and Allah's mercy and blessings be upon you. l entrust you with Allah and ask Him to keep you under His custody

اَسْتَوْدِعُكَ اللهَ وَ اسْتَرْعِيْكَ وَ اَقْرَاُ عَلَيْكَ السَّلَامَ

and to send blessings upon you. We believe in Allah, in the

أَمَنَّا بِاللهِ وَ بِالرُّسُلِ وَ بِمَا جَاءَتْ بِهِ

Messengers, and in what they have conveyed to us, in that to

وَ دَعَتْ اِلَيْهِ وَ دَلَّثْ عَلَيْهِ

which they have called, and in that to which they have

فَاكْتُبْنَا مَعَ الشَّاهِدِيْنَ

guided. So, (please, our Lord,) include us with the witnesses.

اَللهُمَّ لَا تَجْعَلْهُ أَخِرَ الْعَهْدِ مِنْ زِيَارَتِيْ اِيَّاهُ

O Allah, (please) do not decide this visit of mine to him (i.e.

فَاِنْ تَوَفِّيْتَنِي قَبْلَ ذَلِكَ

the Imam) to be the last, and if you cause me to die before

فَإِنَّيْ اشْهَدُ فِيْ مَمَاتِيْ

that, then I bear witness in my death to the same things to

عَلَى مَا شَهِدْتُ عَلَيْهِ فِيْ حَيَاتِيْ

which I have born witness in my lifetime: I bear witness that

اَشْهَدُ اَنَّ اَمِيْرَ الْمُؤْمِنِيْنَ عَلِيًّا

'Ali the Commander of the Faithful, and al-Hasan, al-Husayn,

وَ الْحَسَنَ وَ الْحُسَيْنَ

وَ عَلِيَّ بْنَ الحُسَيْن

وَ مُحَمَّدَ بْنَ عَلِيٍّ

'Ali ibn al-Husayn, Muhammad ibn 'Ali, Ja'far ibn Muhammad,

وَ جَعْفَرَ بْنَ مُحَمَدٍ

وَ مُؤْسَى بْنَ جَعْفَرٍ

وَ عَلِيَّ بْنَ مُؤْسى

وَ مُحَمَّدَ بْنَ عَلِيٌّ

Müsa ibn Ja'far, 'Ali ibn Müsa, Muhammad ibn 'Ali, 'Ali ibn

وَ عَلِيَّ بْنَ مُحَمَّدٍ

Muhammad, al-Hasan ibn 'Ali, and al-Hujjah (the Argument of

وَ الْحَسَنَ بْنَ عَلِيٍّ

وَ الْحُجَةَ بْنَ الْحَسَنِ

صَلَوَاتُكَ عَلَيْهِمْ اَجْمَعِيْنَ اَئِمَتِيْ،

Allah) ibn al-Hasan— may Your blessings be upon all of them -are my lmams. l also bear witness that all of those who

وَ اَشهَدُ اَنَّ مَنْ قَتَلَهُمْ وَ حَارَبَهُمْ مُشْرِكُوْنَ

have slain and fought against them are polytheists and that

وَ مَنْ رَدَّ عَلَيْهِمْ فِيْ اَسْفَلِ دَرَكٍ مِنَ الْجَحِيْمِ

all of those who reject them shall be in the lowest class of

وَ اَشْهَدُ اَنَّ مَنْ حَارَبَهُمْ لَنَا اَعْدَآءً

Hellfire. I also bear witness that those who have fought

وَ نَخنُ مِنْهُمْ بُرَاءُ

against the lmams are our enemies and we disavow them,

وَ أَنَّهُمْ حِزْبُ الشَّيْطَانِ

because they are indeed the party of Satan. The curse of

وَ عَلَى مَنْ قَتَلَهُمْ لَغْنَةُ اللهِ وَ الْمَلَائِكَةِ وَ النَّاسِ اجْمَعِيْنَ

Allah, His angels and all the peoples be upon those who killed the Imams, and upon those who had any role in killing

وَ مَنْ شَرِكَ فِيْهِمْ وَ مَنْ سَرَّهُ قَثْلُهُمْ

them and those who were pleased for their having been

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنَّي اَساَلُكَ بَعْدَ الصَّلْوةِ وَ التَّسْلِيهِ

killed. O Allah, as I begin with invoking Your peace and

آَنْ تُصَلِّيَ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَ عَلِيَّ

blessings upon them, I pray you to bless Muhammad, 'Ali,

وَ فَاطِمَةَ وَ الْحَسَنِ وَ الْحُسَيْنِ

وَ عَلِيِّ وَ مُحَمَّدٍ وَ جَعْفَرٍ وَ مُؤْسى

Fatimah, al-Hasan, al-Husayn, 'Ali, Muhammad, Ja'far, Musa,

وَ عَلِيِّ وَ مُحَمَّدٍ وَ عَلِيٍّ وَ الْحَسَنِ وَ الْحُجَةِ

'Ali, Muhammad, 'Ali, al-Hasan, and alii ujj ah, and not to

وَ لَا تَجْعَلْهُ أَخِرَ الْعَهْدِ مِنْ زِيَارَتِهِ

decide this visit of me to his tomb to be the last, and if you

فَاِنْ جَعَلْتَهُ فَاحْشُرْنِي مَعَ هَؤُلَاءِ الْمُسَمَّيْنَ الْأَئْمَةِ

decide so, then (please) include me with these lmams to whom I have referred. O Allah, (please) cause our hearts to

اَللّهُمَّ وَ ذَلَّلْ قُلُوْبَنَا لَهُم بالطّاعَةِ وَالْمُنَاصَحَةِ

be subservient to them by showing obedience to them, well-

وَ الْمَحَبَّةِ وَ حُسْنِ المُوَازَرَةِ وَ التَّسْلِيْمِ

wishing, love for them, support, and submission.
