Al-Muddaththir (المدثر)

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
O you who covers himself [with a garment],
Arise and warn.
And your Lord glorify.
And your clothing purify.
And uncleanliness avoid.
And do not confer favor to acquire more.
But for your Lord be patient.
And when the trumpet is blown,
That Day will be a difficult day.
Over the disbelievers, it is not easy [to bear],
Leave Me with the one I created alone.
And to whom I granted extensive wealth.
And children present [with him],
And spread [everything] before him, easing [his life].
Then he desires that I should add more.
No! Indeed, he was ever rebellious against Our signs.
I will cover him with arduous torment.
Indeed, he thought and deliberated.
So may he be destroyed for how he deliberated.
Then may he be destroyed for how he deliberated.
Then he looked.
Then he frowned and scowled.
Then he turned back and was arrogant.
And said, 'This is not but magic imitated [from others].'
'This is not but the word of a human being.'
I will drive him into Saqar.
And what will make you know what Saqar is?
It lets nothing remain and leaves nothing [unburned].
Blackening the skins.
Over it are nineteen [angels].
And We did not make the keepers of the Fire except angels, and We did not make their number except as a trial for those who disbelieve—to make those who were given the Scripture certain, and to increase faith for those who believe—and so that no doubts will be left for those given the Scripture and the believers, and so that those in whose hearts is disease and the disbelievers might say, 'What did Allah intend by this as an example?' Thus does Allah mislead whom He wills and guide whom He wills. And none knows the soldiers of your Lord except Him. And it is not except a reminder for mankind.
No! By the moon,
And the night as it departs,
And the morning as it brightens,
Indeed, it is one of the greatest [signs],
A warning to mankind,
For whoever wills among you to proceed or delay,
Every soul is held accountable for what it earns.
Except the companions of the right –
In gardens, they will ask one another
About the criminals
‘What put you into Saqar?’
They will say, 'We were not of those who prayed,'
And we did not feed the poor.
And we used to engage in vain talk with those who engaged [in it],
And we used to deny the Day of Recompense.
Until there came to us the certainty [death].
So intercession will not benefit them the intercessors.
So what is [the matter] with them that they are turning away from the reminder?
As if they were frightened donkeys,
Fleeing from a lion,
Rather, every person among them desires to be given pages spread out [for him].
No! But they do not fear the Hereafter.
No! Indeed, it is a reminder.
So whoever wills may remember it.
And they will not remember except that Allah wills. He is worthy of fear and forgiveness.
