Virtues, description, and recitation method of WRITING OF WILL BEFORE DEATH as recorded in Shia traditions.
اَللّهُمَّ فَاطِرَ السَّمَوَاتِ وَالْأرْضِ
They shall not control intercession, save he who has made a covenant with the Beneficent Allah The Holy Prophet (s) then instructed Imam 'Ali ('a) to learn this covenant and advise the members of his household and his adherents (i.e. Shi'ah) to learn it. He (s) added, "I have been taught this by Archangel Gabriel." "Whoever fails "O Allah! O Designer of the heavens and the earth!
عَالِمَ الْغَيْبِ وَ الشَّهَادَةِ
O Knower of the unseen and seen!
الرَّحْمْنَ الرَّحِيْمَ
O most Beneficent! O most Merciful!
إِنِّى اَعْهَدُ اِلَيْكَ
I confide in You
اَنَّىَّ اَشْهَدُ اَنْ لَا اِلْهَ اِلّا اللهُ
that I bear witness that there is no god save Allah
وَحَدَهُ لَا شَرِيْكَ لَهُ
alone, without Your having any associate.
وَآَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا صَلَى الله عَلَيْهِ وَ الِه عَبْدُهُ وَ رَسُوْلُهُ
I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and messenger,
وَ اَنَّ السَّاعَةَ أتِيَةٌ لَا رَيْبَ فِيْهَا
that the Hour shall undoubtedly come,
وَ اَنَّ اللهَ يَنعَثُ مَنْ فِى الْقُبُوْرِ
that Allah shall raise the dead from their graves,
وَ اَنَّ الْحِسَابَ حَقٌ
that the Interrogation is true,
وَ اَنَّ الْجَنَّةَ حَقٌّ
that Paradise is true,
وَ اَنَّ مَا وُعِدَ فِيْهَا مِنَ النَّعِيْهِ
that whatever is promised to be therein-such as bliss,
مِنَ الْمَأْكَلِ وَ الْمَشْرَبِ وَ النَّكَاحِ حَقٌّ
eating, drinking and marriage-is true,
وَ اَنَّ الثَّارَ حَقٌّ
that Hellfire is true,
وَ اَنَّ الْاِيْمَانَ حَقٌّ
that faith is true,
وَ اَنَّ الدِّيْنَ كَمَا وَصَفَ،
that the religion is as exactly as He has described,
وَ اَنَّ الْإِسْلَامَ كَمَا شَرَعَ
that Islam is exactly as He has established,
وَ اَنَّ الْقَوْلَ كَمَا قَالَ
that all what He has said is exactly the truth,
وَ اَنَّ الْقُرْاْنَ كَمَآ اَنْزَلَ
that the Qur'an is as exactly as what He has revealed,
وَاَنَّ اللهَ هُوَ الْحَقُّ الْمُبِيْنُ
and that Allah is verily the Manifest Truth.
وَ أَنَّى اَعْهَدُ اِلَيْكَ فِى دَارِ الدُّنْيَا
I also confide in You in this world
أَنَّىْ رَضِيْتُ بِكَ رَبَّا
that I submit to You being my Lord,
وَ بِالْإِسْلَامِ دِيْنًا
Islam being my religion,
وَ بِمُحَمَدٍ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَ الِهِ نَبِيَّا
Muhammad, may Allah bless him and his Household, being my Prophet,
وَ بِعَلِيِّ وَلِيًّا
'Ali being my lmam,
وَ بِالْقُرْانِ كِتَابًا
the Qur'an being my Book,
وَ اَنَّ اَهْلَ بَيْتِ نَبِّيِّكَ عَلَيْهِ وَ عَلَيْهِمُ السَّلَامُ اَئِمَتِىْ
and Your Prophet's Household—Your peace be upon him and them-being my Imams.
اَللَّهُمَّ اَنْتَ ثِقَتِى عِنْدَ شِدَّتِى
O Allah, in You l trust in tribulations,
وَ رَجَائِى عِنْدَ كُرْبَتِىْ
You are my only hope in agonies,
وَ عُدَّتِى عِنْدَ الْأُمُوْرِ الْتِى تَنْزِلُ بِى
You are my only provision when misfortunes befall me,
وَ أَنْتَ وَلِيِّنْ فِى نِعْمَتِىْ
You are my sponsor in my blessings,
وَ اِلْهِى وَ اِلْهُ أَبَآئِى
and You are my God and my ancestors' God.
صَلَّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَ اَلِهِ
So (please) send blessings upon Muhammad and his Household
وَ لَا تَكِلْنِن اِلَى نَفْسِى طَرْفَةَ عَيْنٍ آَبَدًا
and do not make me depend on my own self even for the winking of an eye.
وَ أَنِس فِى قَبْرِيْ وَحْشَتِى
Please, entertain me in my grave and loneliness
وَاجْعَلْ لِى عِنْدَكَ عَهْدًا يَوْمَ اَلْقَاكَ مَنْشُوْرًا
and keep my confidence in You active for the day on which 1 shall meet You." "They shall not control intercession, save he who has made a covenant with the Beneficent Allah.'
لَا يَمْلِكُونَ الشَّفَاعَةَ إِلَا مَنِ اتَّخَذَ عِندَ الرَّحْمَنِ عَهْدًا
They shall not control intercession, save he who has made a covenant with the Beneficent Allah The Holy Prophet (s) then instructed lmam 'Ali ('a) to learn this covenant and advise the members of his household and his adherents (i.e. Shi'ah) to learn it. He (s) added, "I have been taught this by Archangel Gabriel."
