عن النبي (ص) أنه قال: مَنْ رَأَى جَنَازَةً فَقَالَ هَذِهِ الكَلِمَاتِ، بَكَتْ عَلَيْهِ مَلَائِكَةُ السَّمَاوَاتِ كُلُّهَا رَحْمَةً لَهُ:
The Holy Prophet (s) is reported to have said that whoever sees a funeral procession and says these words, all the angels in the heavens will weep as a sign of showing mercy to him:
Imeripotiwa kutoka kwa Mtume Mtukufu (s.a.w.w) akisema kwamba yeyote anayeona jeneza likipita na akasema maneno haya, malaika wote mbinguni watamlilia kama ishara ya kumrehemu:
اَللهُ اَكْبَرُ
Allāhu Akbar
Allah is the Most Great.
Mwenyezi Mungu ni Mkubwa zaidi.
هَذَا مَا وَعَدَنَا اللهُ وَ رَسُوْلُهُ
Hādhā mā waʿadanā Allāhu wa rasūluh
This is what Allah and His Messenger promised us,
Hivi ndivyo walivyotuahidi Mwenyezi Mungu na Mtume Wake,
وَ صَدَقَ اللهُ وَ رَسُوْلَهُ
Wa ṣadaqa Allāhu wa rasūlah
and Allah and His Messenger spoke the truth.
na Mwenyezi Mungu na Mtume Wake wamesema kweli.
اَللَّهُمّ زِدْنَا اِيْمَانًا وَتَسْلِيْمًا
Allāhumma zidnā īmānaw-wa taslīmā
O Allah, (please) increase us faith and submission (to You).
Ee Mwenyezi Mungu, (tafadhali) utuzidishie imani na utii (Kwake).
اَلْحَمْدُ للهِ الَّذِي تَعَزَّزَ بِالْقُدْرَةِ
Alḥamdu lillāhil-ladhī taʿazzaza bil-qudrah
All praise be to Allah Who has been almighty due to His omnipotence
Sifa zote njema ni za Mwenyezi Mungu ambaye amekuwa Mwenye nguvu kwa sababu ya uwezo Wake wote
وَ قَهَرَ العِبَادَ بِالْمَوْتِ
Wa qahara al-ʿibāda bil-mawt
and Who has overpowered the servants (of Him) by death.
na Ambaye amewashinda waja (Wake) kwa mauti.
Instructions
عن الإمام الصادق (ع) أنه أمر حاملي التابوت أن يقولوا هذه الكلمات:
Imam al-Sadiq ('a) is reported to have instructed the bearers of a coffin to say these words:
All praise is due to Allah, Who has not made me of the severed/perished black mass (mankind).
Sifa zote njema ni za Mwenyezi Mungu, Ambaye hakunifanya miongoni mwa makundi yaliyoangamizwa.

ليس من السنة أن تتبع النساء الجنائز. كما يكره لمن اتبع الجنازة الضحك أو التفوه باللغو. وفي كتاب الحلية للعلامة المجلسي رحمه الله عن النبي (ص) قال: من صلى على ميت صلى عليه سبعون ألف ملك وغفر الله له ما تقدم من ذنبه وما تأخر، وإن بقي حتى يدفن ويسوى عليه التراب كان له بكل خطوة قيراط من الأجر، والقيراط كجبل أحد.
It is not traditional that women follow funerals. It is also discommended for those who follow a funeral to laugh or to utter nonsensical words. In his book entitled al-Hilyah, 'Allamah al-Majlisi, may Allah have mercy upon him, quotes the Holy Prophet (s) as saying, 'Whoever performs a prayer for a deceased, seventy thousand angels will pray for him and Almighty Allah will forgive him his past and coming sins. If he remains until the deceased is buried and soil completely covers his grave, then he will be granted a carat of reward for each step he has made. One carat is equal to the weight of Mount Uhud.' The Holy Prophet (s) is also reported to have said, 'Any faithful believer who performs a prayer for a deceased person will be awarded Paradise incumbently unless he is hypocrite or impious to the parents.'
Si jambo la kawaida (la kimapokeo) kwa wanawake kufuata majeneza. Pia haipendezi kwa wanaofuata jeneza kucheka au kusema maneno yasiyo na maana. Katika kitabu chake kiitwacho al-Hilyah, 'Allamah al-Majlisi (Mungu amrehemu), anamukuu Mtume Mtukufu (s.a.w.w) akisema: 'Yeyote anayeswalia maiti, malaika sabini elfu watamswalia na Mwenyezi Mungu Mtukufu atamsamehe madhambi yake yaliyopita na yajayo. Akibaki mpaka maiti azikwe na udongo kufunika kaburi lake kabisa, basi atapewa qirati moja ya thawabu kwa kila hatua aliyopiga. Qirati moja ni sawa na uzito wa Mlima Uhud.' Mtume Mtukufu (s.a.w.w) pia anaripotiwa kusema: 'Muumini yeyote anayeswalia maiti, atawajibishiwa kuingia Peponi, isipokuwa akiwa mnafiki au asiyewatii wazazi wake.'
