Dua Tawassul as recorded in authentic Shia supplication manuals and traditions of the Holy Infallibles ('a).
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ وَأَتَوَجَّهُ إِلَيْكَ
O Allah, I ask You and turn towards You,
بِنَبِيِّكَ نَبِيِّ ٱلرَّحْمَةِ
through Your Prophet, the Prophet of mercy,
مُحَمَّدٍ صَلَّىٰ ٱللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ
Muhammad, may Allah bless him and his family,
يَا أَبَا ٱلْقَاسِمِ
O Abu al-Qasim,
يَا رَسُولَ ٱللَّهِ
O Messenger of Allah,
يَا إِمَامَ ٱلرَّحْمَةِ
O leader of mercy,
يَا سَيِّدَنَا وَمَوْلاَنَا
O our master and our guardian,
إِنَّا تَوَجَّهْنَا وَٱسْتَشْفَعْنَا
Indeed, we have turned and sought intercession,
وَتَوَسَّلْنَا بِكَ إِلَىٰ ٱللَّهِ
and we seek nearness to Allah through you,
وَقَدَّمْنَاكَ بَيْنَ يَدَيْ حَاجَاتِنَا
and we present you before our needs,
يَا وَجِيهاً عِنْدَ ٱللَّهِ
O one who is honored in the sight of Allah,
إِشْفَعْ لَنَا عِنْدَ ٱللَّهِ
intercede for us with Allah,
يَا أَبَا ٱلْحَسَنِ
O Abu al-Hasan,
يَا أَمِيرَ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ
O Commander of the Faithful,
يَا عَلِيُّ بْنَ أَبِي طَالِبٍ
O Ali, son of Abu Talib,
يَا حُجَّةَ ٱللَّهِ عَلَىٰ خَلْقِهِ
O Proof of Allah over His creation,
يَا سَيِّدَنَا وَمَوْلاَنَا
O our master and our guardian,
إِنَّا تَوَجَّهْنَا وَٱسْتَشْفَعْنَا
Indeed, we have turned and sought intercession,
وَتَوَسَّلْنَا بِكَ إِلَىٰ اللّهِ
and we seek nearness to Allah through you,
وَقَدَّمْنَاكَ بَيْنَ يَدَيْ حَاجَاتِنَا
and we present you before our needs,
يَا وَجِيهاً عِنْدَ ٱللَّهِ
O one who is honored in the sight of Allah,
إِشْفَعْ لَنَا عِنْدَ ٱللَّهِ
intercede for us with Allah,
يَا فَاطِمَةُ ٱلزَّهْرَاءُ
O Fatimah al-Zahra,
يَا بِنْتَ مُحَمَّدٍ
O daughter of Muhammad,
يَا قُرَّةَ عَيْنِ ٱلرَّسُولِ
O joy of the eye of the Messenger,
يَا سَيِّدَتَنَا وَمَوْلاَتَنَا
O our lady and our guardian,
إِنَّا تَوَجَّهْنَا وَٱسْتَشْفَعْنَا
Indeed, we have turned and sought intercession,
وَتَوَسَّلْنَا بِكِ إِلَىٰ ٱللَّهِ
and we seek nearness to Allah through you,
وَقَدَّمْنَاكِ بَيْنَ يَدَيْ حَاجَاتِنَا
and we present you before our needs,
يَا وَجِيهَةً عِنْدَ ٱللَّهِ
O one who is honored in the sight of Allah,
إِشْفَعي لَنَا عِنْدَ ٱللَّهِ
intercede for us with Allah,
يَا أَبَا مُحَمَّدٍ
O Abu Muhammad,
يَا حَسَنُ بْنَ عَلِيٍّ
O Hasan, son of Ali,
أَيُّهَا ٱلْمجْتَبَىٰ
O chosen one (al-Mujtaba),
يَا بْنَ رَسُولِ ٱللَّهِ
O son of the Messenger of Allah,
يَا حُجَّةَ ٱللَّهِ عَلَىٰ خَلْقِهِ
O Proof of Allah over His creation,
يَا سَيِّدَنَا وَمَوْلاَنَا
O our master and our guardian,
إِنَّا تَوَجَّهْنَا وَٱسْتَشْفَعْنَا
Indeed, we have turned and sought intercession,
وَتَوَسَّلْنَا بِكَ إِلَىٰ ٱللَّهِ
and we seek nearness to Allah through you,
وَقَدَّمْنَاكَ بَيْنَ يَدَيْ حَاجَاتِنَا
and we present you before our needs,
يَا وَجِيهاً عِنْدَ ٱللَّهِ
O one who is honored in the sight of Allah,
إِشْفَعْ لَنَا عِنْدَ ٱللَّهِ
intercede for us with Allah,
يَا أَبَا عَبْدِ ٱللَّهِ
O Aba Abdillah,
يَا حُسَيْنُ بْنَ عَلِيٍّ
O Husayn, son of Ali,
أَيُّهَا ٱلشَّهِيدُ
O martyr,
يَا بْنَ رَسُولِ ٱللَّهِ
O son of the Messenger of Allah,
يَا حُجَّةَ ٱللَّهِ عَلَىٰ خَلْقِهِ
O Proof of Allah over His creation,
يَا سَيِّدَنَا وَمَوْلاَنَا
O our master and our guardian,
إِنَّا تَوَجَّهْنَا وَٱسْتَشْفَعْنَا
Indeed, we have turned and sought intercession,
وَتَوَسَّلْنَا بِكَ إِلَىٰ ٱللَّهِ
and we seek nearness to Allah through you,
وَقَدَّمْنَاكَ بَيْنَ يَدَيْ حَاجَاتِنَا
and we present you before our needs,
يَا وَجِيهاً عِنْدَ ٱللَّهِ
O one who is honored in the sight of Allah,
إِشْفَعْ لَنَا عِنْدَ ٱللَّهِ
intercede for us with Allah,
يَا أَبَا ٱلْحَسَنِ
O Aba al-Hasan,
يَا عَلِيُّ بْنَ ٱلْحُسَيْنِ
O Ali, son of Husayn,
يَا زَيْنَ ٱلْعَابِدينَ
O adornment of the worshippers (Zayn al-Abidin),
يَا بْنَ رَسُولِ ٱللَّهِ
O son of the Messenger of Allah,
يَا حُجَّةَ ٱللَّهِ عَلَىٰ خَلْقِهِ
O Proof of Allah over His creation,
يَا سَيِّدَنَا وَمَوْلاَنَا
O our master and our guardian,
إِنَّا تَوَجَّهْنَا وَٱسْتَشْفَعْنَا
Indeed, we have turned and sought intercession,
وَتَوَسَّلْنَا بِكَ إِلَىٰ ٱللَّهِ
and we seek nearness to Allah through you,
وَقَدَّمْنَاكَ بَيْنَ يَدَيْ حَاجَاتِنَا
and we present you before our needs,
يَا وَجِيهاً عِنْدَ ٱللَّهِ
O one who is honored in the sight of Allah,
إِشْفَعْ لَنَا عِنْدَ ٱللَّهِ
intercede for us with Allah,
يَا أَبَا جَعْفَرٍ
O Aba Ja'far,
يَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنَ عَلِيٍّ
O Muhammad, son of Ali,
أَيُّهَا ٱلْبَاقِرُ
O al-Baqir,
يَا بْنَ رَسُولِ ٱللَّهِ
O son of the Messenger of Allah,
يَا حُجَّةَ ٱللَّهِ عَلَىٰ خَلْقِهِ
O Proof of Allah over His creation,
يَا سَيِّدَنَا وَمَوْلاَنَا
O our master and our guardian,
إِنَّا تَوَجَّهْنَا وَٱسْتَشْفَعْنَا
Indeed, we have turned and sought intercession,
وَتَوَسَّلْنَا بِكَ إِلَىٰ ٱللَّهِ
and we seek nearness to Allah through you,
وَقَدَّمْنَاكَ بَيْنَ يَدَيْ حَاجَاتِنَا
and we present you before our needs,
يَا وَجِيهاً عِنْدَ ٱللَّهِ
O one who is honored in the sight of Allah,
إِشْفَعْ لَنَا عِنْدَ ٱللَّهِ
intercede for us with Allah,
يَا أَبَا عَبْدِ ٱللَّهِ
O Aba Abdillah,
يَا جَعْفَرُ بْنَ مُحَمَّدٍ
O Ja'far, son of Muhammad,
أَيُّهَا ٱلصَّادِقُ
O al-Sadiq (the truthful),
يَا بْنَ رَسُولِ ٱللَّهِ
O son of the Messenger of Allah,
يَا حُجَّةَ ٱللَّهِ عَلَىٰ خَلْقِهِ
O Proof of Allah over His creation,
يَا سَيِّدَنَا وَمَوْلاَنَا
O our master and our guardian,
إِنَّا تَوَجَّهْنَا وَٱسْتَشْفَعْنَا
Indeed, we have turned and sought intercession,
وَتَوَسَّلْنَا بِكَ إِلَىٰ ٱللَّهِ
and we seek nearness to Allah through you,
وَقَدَّمْنَاكَ بَيْنَ يَدَيْ حَاجَاتِنَا
and we present you before our needs,
يَا وَجِيهاً عِنْدَ ٱللَّهِ
O one who is honored in the sight of Allah,
إِشْفَعْ لَنَا عِنْدَ ٱللَّهِ
intercede for us with Allah,
يَا أَبَا ٱلْحَسَنِ
O Aba al-Hasan,
يَا مُوسَىٰ بْنَ جَعْفَرٍ
O Musa, son of Ja'far,
أَيُّهَا ٱلْكَاظِمُ
O al-Kazim,
يَا بْنَ رَسُولِ ٱللَّهِ
O son of the Messenger of Allah,
يَا حُجَّةَ ٱللَّهِ عَلَىٰ خَلْقِهِ
O Proof of Allah over His creation,
يَا سَيِّدَنَا وَمَوْلاَنَا
O our master and our guardian,
إِنَّا تَوَجَّهْنَا وَٱسْتَشْفَعْنَا
Indeed, we have turned and sought intercession,
وَتَوَسَّلْنَا بِكَ إِلَىٰ ٱللَّهِ
and we seek nearness to Allah through you,
وَقَدَّمْنَاكَ بَيْنَ يَدَيْ حَاجَاتِنَا
and we present you before our needs,
يَا وَجِيهاً عِنْدَ ٱللَّهِ
O one who is honored in the sight of Allah,
إِشْفَعْ لَنَا عِنْدَ ٱللَّهِ
intercede for us with Allah,
يَا أَبَا ٱلْحَسَنِ
O Aba al-Hasan,
يَا عَلِيُّ بْنَ مُوسَىٰ
O Ali, son of Musa,
أَيُّهَا ٱلرِّضَا
O al-Ridha,
يَا بْنَ رَسُولِ ٱللَّهِ
O son of the Messenger of Allah,
يَا حُجَّةَ ٱللَّهِ عَلَىٰ خَلْقِهِ
O Proof of Allah over His creation,
يَا سَيِّدَنَا وَمَوْلاَنَا
O our master and our guardian,
إِنَّا تَوَجَّهْنَا وَٱسْتشْفَعْنَا
Indeed, we have turned and sought intercession,
وَتَوَسَّلْنَا بِكَ إِلَىٰ ٱللَّهِ
and we seek nearness to Allah through you,
وَقَدَّمْنَاكَ بَيْنَ يَدَيْ حَاجَاتِنَا
and we present you before our needs,
يَا وَجِيهاً عِنْدَ ٱللَّهِ
O one who is honored in the sight of Allah,
إِشْفَعْ لَنَا عِنْدَ ٱللَّهِ
intercede for us with Allah,
يَا أَبَا جَعْفَرٍ
O Aba Ja'far,
يَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنَ عَلِيٍّ
O Muhammad, son of Ali,
أَيُّهَا ٱلتَّقِيُّ ٱلْجَوَادُ
O al-Taqi, al-Jawad,
يَا بْنَ رَسُولِ ٱللَّهِ
O son of the Messenger of Allah,
يَا حُجَّةَ ٱللَّهِ عَلَىٰ خَلْقِهِ
O Proof of Allah over His creation,
يَا سَيِّدَنَا وَمَوْلاَنَا
O our master and our guardian,
إِنَّا تَوَجَّهْنَا وَٱسْتَشْفَعْنَا
Indeed, we have turned and sought intercession,
وَتَوَسَّلْنَا بِكَ إِلَىٰ ٱللَّهِ
and we seek nearness to Allah through you,
وَقَدَّمْنَاكَ بَيْنَ يَدَيْ حَاجَاتِنَا
and we present you before our needs,
يَا وَجِيهاً عِنْدَ ٱللَّهِ
O one who is honored in the sight of Allah,
إِشْفَعْ لَنَا عِنْدَ ٱللَّهِ
intercede for us with Allah,
يَا أَبَا ٱلْحَسَنِ
O Aba al-Hasan,
يَا عَلِيُّ بْنَ مُحَمَّدٍ
O Ali, son of Muhammad,
أَيُّهَا ٱلْهَادِي ٱلنَّقِيُّ
O al-Hadi al-Naqi (the guided, the pure),
يَا بْنَ رَسُولِ ٱللَّهِ
O son of the Messenger of Allah,
يَا حُجَّةَ ٱللَّهِ عَلَىٰ خَلْقِهِ
O Proof of Allah over His creation,
يَا سَيِّدَنَا وَمَوْلاَنَا
O our master and our guardian,
إِنَّا تَوَجَّهْنَا وَٱسْتَشْفَعْنَا
Indeed, we have turned and sought intercession,
وَتَوَسَّلْنَا بِكَ إِلَىٰ ٱللَّهِ
and we seek nearness to Allah through you,
وَقَدَّمْنَاكَ بَيْنَ يَدَيْ حَاجَاتِنَا
and we present you before our needs,
يَا وَجِيهاً عِنْدَ ٱللَّهِ
O one who is honored in the sight of Allah,
إِشْفَعْ لَنَا عِنْدَ ٱللَّهِ
intercede for us with Allah,
يَا أَبَا مُحَمَّدٍ
O Aba Muhammad,
يَا حَسَنُ بْنَ عَلِيٍّ
O Hasan, son of Ali,
أَيُّهَا ٱلزَّكِيُّ ٱلْعَسْكَرِيُّ
O al-Zaki al-Askari (the pure, al-Askari),
يَا بْنَ رَسُولِ ٱللَّهِ
O son of the Messenger of Allah,
يَا حُجَّةَ ٱللَّهِ عَلَىٰ خَلْقِهِ
O Proof of Allah over His creation,
يَا سَيِّدَنَا وَمَوْلاَنَا
O our master and our guardian,
إِنَّا تَوَجَّهْنَا وَٱسْتشْفَعْنَا
Indeed, we have turned and sought intercession,
وَتَوَسَّلْنَا بِكَ إِلَىٰ ٱللَّهِ
and we seek nearness to Allah through you,
وَقَدَّمْنَاكَ بَيْنَ يَدَيْ حَاجَاتِنَا
and we present you before our needs,
يَا وَجِيهاً عِنْدَ ٱللَّهِ
O one who is honored in the sight of Allah,
إِشْفَعْ لَنَا عِنْدَ ٱللَّهِ
intercede for us with Allah,
يَا وَصِيَّ ٱلْحَسَنِ
O successor of Hasan,
وَٱلْخَلَفُ ٱلْحُجَّةُ
and the caliph, the Proof of Allah,
أَيُّهَا ٱلْقَائِمُ ٱلْمُنْتَظَرُ ٱلْمَهْدِيُّ
O Qa'im, the awaited Mahdi,
يَا بْنَ رَسُولِ ٱللَّهِ
O son of the Messenger of Allah,
يَا حُجَّةَ ٱللَّهِ عَلَىٰ خَلْقِهِ
O Proof of Allah over His creation,
يَا سَيِّدَنَا وَمَوْلاَنَا
O our master and our guardian,
إِنَّا تَوَجَّهْنَا وَٱسْتَشْفَعْنَا
Indeed, we have turned and sought intercession,
وَتَوَسَّلْنَا بِكَ إِلَىٰ ٱللَّهِ
and we seek nearness to Allah through you,
وَقَدَّمْنَاكَ بَيْنَ يَدَيْ حَاجَاتِنَا
and we present you before our needs,
يَا وَجِيهاً عِنْدَ ٱللَّهِ
O one who is honored in the sight of Allah,
إِشْفَعْ لَنَا عِنْدَ ٱللَّهِ
intercede for us with Allah,
Instructions
You may now beseech Almighty Allah to grant your needs, and they will be settled, if Allah permits. According to another narration, you may say the following words thereafter:
يَا سَادَتِي وَمَوَالِيَّ
O my masters and my guardians,
إِنِّي تَوَجَّهْتُ بِكُمْ
Indeed, I have turned to You through you,
ائِمَّتِي وَعُدَّتِي
my Imams and my support,
لِيَوْمِ فَقْرِي وَحَاجَتِي
for the day of my poverty and my need,
إِلَىٰ ٱللَّهِ
to Allah,
وَتَوَسَّلْتُ بِكُمْ إِلَىٰ ٱللَّهِ
and I have sought nearness to Allah through you,
وَٱسْتَشْفَعْتُ بِكُمْ إِلَىٰ ٱللَّهِ
and I have sought intercession through you to Allah,
فَٱشْفَعُوا لِي عِنْدَ ٱللَّهِ
So intercede for me with Allah,
وَٱسْتَنْقِذُونِي مِنْ ذُنُوبِي عِنْدَ ٱللَّهِ
and save me from my sins with Allah,
فَإنَّكُمْ وَسيلَتِي إِلَىٰ ٱللَّهِ
For indeed, you are my means to Allah,
وَبِحُبِّكُمْ وَبِقُرْبِكُمْ ارْجُو نَجَاةً مِنَ ٱللَّهِ
and by your love and your closeness, I hope for salvation from Allah,
فَكُونُوا عِنْدَ ٱللَّهِ رَجَائِي
So be, with Allah, my hope,
يَا سَادَتِي يَا اوْلِيَاءَ ٱللَّهِ
O my masters, O friends of Allah,
صَلَّىٰ ٱللَّهُ عَلَيْهِمْ اجْمَعينَ
May Allah bless them all,
وَلَعَنَ ٱللَّهُ اعْدَاءَ ٱللَّهِ ظَالِمِيهِمْ
and may Allah curse the enemies of Allah who wronged them,
مِنَ ٱلاوَّلِينَ وَٱلآخِرِينَ
from the first and the last,
آمِينَ رَبَّ ٱلْعَالَمينَ
Ameen, Lord of the worlds.
