The Supplication of the Minor Chain-Armor. This excellent supplicatory prayer is highly considered. It was said by Imam Musa al-Kazim (a.s.) when al-Hadi, the 'Abbasid ruler, intended to assassinate him. Hence, the Imam (a.s.) saw in a dream his grandfather, the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a.), Who foretold that Almighty Allah would annihilate his enemy.
O my God, how many an enemy
has unsheathed the sword of his enmity against me,
and sharpened the edge of his blade for me,
and whetted its point for me,
and mixed deadly poisons for me,
and aimed his unerring arrows at me,
and his watchful eye never slept from watching me,
and harbored the intention to inflict evil upon me,
and make me gulp down the bitter poison.
But You looked at my weakness to bear great hardships,
and my inability to defend myself against him who intended to fight me,
and my loneliness amidst the multitude of those who opposed me and lay in wait for me,
while I did not think of countering them with the like,
So You aided me with Your strength,
and strengthened my back with Your victory,
and blunted his edge for me,
and left him disappointed after his huge collection and mobilization,
and made me superior to him,
and turned his own plots back against him,
and returned them to him,
and his thirst was not quenched,
and the burning of his anger was not cooled,
though he bit his fingertips [in rage] against me,
and turned his back, with his troops defeated.
So to You belongs praise, O Lord, from a Mighty One Who is never overcome, and a Forbearing One Who does not hasten. Bless Muhammad and the household of Muhammad, and make me of those who thank You for Your favors, and remember You for Your bounties.
My God, how many a transgressor has transgressed against me with his plots,
and set the traps of his snares for me, and assigned his watchful eye to track me,
and crouched for me like a wild beast waiting for its prey, waiting to seize his opportunity,
while showing a cheerful, flattering face, and putting on a fake smile.
But when You saw the deceit of his heart, and the ugliness of what he harbored against his fellow believer,
and he came out openly in his transgression against me, You cast him headlong on his head,
and destroyed his building from its foundation, and threw him down into the pit he had dug,
and cast him into the depth of his own well, and made his cheek touch the dust of his own feet,
and kept him occupied with his own body and livelihood, and struck him with his own stone,
and strangled him with his own rope, and slaughtered him with his own arrows, and threw him down on his nose,
and turned his plot back into his own throat, and tied him with his own regret, and wore him out with his own sorrow.
So he became humiliated and small after his pride, and was subdued after his arrogance,
humiliated and captive in the trap of his own making, in which he had hoped to see me on the day of his assault.
My humble face prostrates before Your mighty and majestic face; my mortal and perishing face prostrates before Your eternal and everlasting face.
