DUA BEFORE AND AFTER PRAYERS
Five in number, these supplicatory prayers are as follows:

DUA KABLA NA BAADA YA SWALA
Dua hizi za kuomba ni tano kwa idadi, nazo ni kama ifuatavyo:
Kwanza: Imepokewa kutoka kwa Imam al-Sadiq ('a) akisema: Imam 'Ali Amir al-Mu'minin ('a) alikuwa akisema: Yeyote anayesema maneno haya, ataongezwa kwenye kundi la Muhammad na Ahlul Bayt wake: Kabla ya kuanza swala ya wajibu, dua ifuatayo inaweza kusomwa:
اَللَّهُمَّ اِنَّى
Allāhumma innā
O Allah, I
Ee Mwenyezi Mungu, hakika mimi
أَتَّوَجَهُ اِلَيْكَ بِمُحَمَّدِ وَالِ مُحَمَّدٍ
ʾattawajahu al-yka bimuḥammadi wāli muḥammadin
turn my face towards You in the name of Muhammad and Muhammad's Household,
naelekeza uso wangu Kwako kwa jina la Muhammad na Kizazi cha Muhammad,
وَ أُقَدَّمُهُمْ بَيْنَ يَدَىٰ صَلَوَاتِىْ
Wa ʾuqaddamuhum bayna yadā ṣalawātiā
present them before You before I begin my prayers,
na ninawatanguliza mbele Yako kabla ya kuanza swala zangu,
وَ اتَقَرَّبُ بِهِمْ إِليْكَ
Wa ataqarrabu bihim ʾilyka
and seek nearness to You in their names.
na ninajikurubisha Kwako kwa majina yao.
فَاجْعَلْنِى بِهِمْ وَجِيْهَا
Fājʿalniā bihim wajīhā
So, in their names, (please) make me of high regard with You
Basi, kwa ajili yao, (tafadhali) nifanye mwenye heshima kubwa mbele Yako
فِي الدُّنْيَا وَالْأخِرَةِ
Fī ad-dunyā wālʾkhirati
in this world and the Hereafter
duniani na Akhera
وَ مِنَ الْمُقَرَّبِيْنَ
Wa mina al-muqarrabīna
and of those drawn near to You.
na miongoni mwa walio karibu nawe.
مَنَنتَ عَلَىَّ بِمَعْرِفَتِهِمْ
Mananta ʿalā bimaʿrifatihim
You have endued me with the great favor of making me know them;
Umenineemesha kwa fadhila kubwa ya kunifanya niwajue;
فَاخْتِمْ لِىْ بِطَاعَتِهِمْ
Fākhtim liā biṭāʿatihim
so, (please) seal my life with obedience to them,
basi, (tafadhali) hitimisha maisha yangu kwa kuwatii wao,
وَ مَعْرِفَتِهِمْ وَ وَلَايَتِهِمْ
Wa maʿrifatihim wa walāyatihim
recognition of them, and loyalty to them,
kuwatambua, na kuwa mtiifu kwao,
فَإِنَّهَا السَّعَادَةُ
Faʾinnahā as-saʿādatu
because this is the true happiness.
kwa sababu hii ndiyo furaha ya kweli.
وَ اختِمْ لِىْ بِهَا
Wa akhtim liā bihā
Therefore, (please) seal my life with these things,
Kwa hiyo, (tafadhali) hitimisha maisha yangu kwa mambo haya,
فَاِنَّكَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْئٍ قَدِيْرٌ.
Fānnaka ʿalā kulli shayʾin qadīrun.
for You have power over all things.

Ee Mwenyezi Mungu, (tafadhali) nijaalie niwe pamoja na Muhammad na Kizazi cha Muhammad
فِى كُلِّ عَافِيَةٍ وَ بَلَآءِ
Fiā kulli ʿāfiyatin wa balaʾāʾi
in every item of wellbeing and tribulation
katika kila afya na mtihani
وَاجْعَلْنِى مَعَ مُحَمَّدٍ وَ الِ مُحَمَّدٍ
Wājʿalniā maʿa muḥammadin wa ali muḥammadin
and make me with Muhammad and Muhammad's Household
na unijaalie niwe pamoja na Muhammad na Kizazi cha Muhammad
فِي كُلِّ مَثْوَّى وَ مُثْقَلَبِ
Fī kulli mathwwā wa muthqalabi
in every place of returning and place of rest.
katika kila mahali pa marejeo na mahali pa kupumzikia.
اَللّهُمَّ اجْعَلْ مَخيَاىَ مَخيَاهُمْ
Allāhumma ajʿal makhyāā makhyāhum
O Allah, (please) make me live their lives
Ee Mwenyezi Mungu, (tafadhali) fanya maisha yangu yawe kama maisha yao
وَمَمَاتِى مَمَاتَهُمْ
Wamamātiā mamātahum
and die their death,
na kifo changu kiwe kama kifo chao,
وَاجْعَلْنِى مَعَهُمْ فِي الْمَوَاطِنِ كُلَّهَا
Wājʿalniā maʿahum fī al-mawāṭini kullahā
include me with them in all situations,
na unijumuishe pamoja nao katika hali zote,
وَلَا تُفَرِّقْ بَيْنِىْ وَ بَيْنَهُمْ
Walā tufarriq bayniā wa baynahum
and do not depart me from them.
na usinitenganishe nao kabisa.
إِنَّكَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَءِ قَدِيْرٌ.
ʾinnaka ʿalā kulli shaʾi qadīrun.
Verily, You have power over all things.
Hakika Wewe una uwezo juu ya kila kitu.
Instructions
Second: Safwan al-Jammal is reported to have said: I was once with Imam al-Sadiq ('a). He directed his face towards the kiblah direction (for performing a prayer) and said the following supplicatory prayer before he uttered the takbirah al-ihram statement (i.e. the commencing statement of the ritual prayers):

Pili: Imepokewa kutoka kwa Safwan al-Jammal akisema: Niliwahi kuwa na Imam al-Sadiq ('a). Alielekeza uso wake upande wa kibla (kwa ajili ya kuswali) na akasoma dua ifuatayo kabla ya kutamka takbira ya kuhirimia swala:
اَللَّهُمَّ لَا تُؤْيِسْنِى مِنْ رَوْحِكَ
Allāhumma lā tuʾyisniā min rawḥika
O Allah, (please) do not make me despair of Your soothing mercy,
Ee Mwenyezi Mungu, (tafadhali) usinikatishe tamaa na rehema Yako yenye kufariji,
وَلَا تُقَنَّظْنِى مِنْ رَحْمَتِكَ
Walā tuqannaẓniā min raḥmatika
do not make me lose hope of Your mercy,
wala usinifanye nipoteze matumaini ya rehema Yako,
وَلَا تُؤْمِنِّى مَكْرَكَ
Walā tuʾminniā makraka
and do not make me feel secure against Your plans,
wala usinifanye nijihisi salama dhidi ya mipango Yako,
for none feels secure against Allah's plans except the losing people.
kwani hakuna anayejihisi salama dhidi ya mipango ya Mwenyezi Mungu isipokuwa watu wenye hasara.

Allāhumma innā ataqarrabu al-yka bijūdik wa karamika wa ataqarrabu al-yka bimuḥamadin ʿabidika wa rasūlika wa ataqarrabu al-yka bimalāʾikatika al-muqarrabīna wa anbiyaʾāʾika al-mursalīna wa bika Allāhumma ʾanta al-ghaniyyu ʿannā wa biā al-fāqatu al-yka ānta al-ghaniā ʿannā wa ānā al-faqīru ʾilayka aqaltanin ʿathratiā wa satazta ʿalā dhunūbin fāqḍi al-yawma ḥājatiā wa lā tuʿaddhabniā biqabīḥi mā taʿlamu minnā bal ʿafwuka wa jūduka yasaʿuniā.
O Allah, I seek nearness to You through Your magnanimity and Your generosity, and I seek nearness to You through Muhammad, Your servant and Your Messenger, and I seek nearness to You through Your close angels and Your sent prophets. And through You, O Allah; You are the Self-Sufficient, free of need from me, and I am in needy poverty of You. You are Self-Sufficient from me and I am poor to You. You have forgiven my slip and concealed my sins, so grant my need today and do not punish me with the ugly deeds You know of me, rather Your pardon and Your generosity are vast enough for me.
Ee Mwenyezi Mungu, hakika mimi ninajikurubisha Kwako kwa ukarimu Wako na fadhila Zako, na ninajikurubisha Kwako kupitia kwa Muhammad, mja Wako na Mtume Wako, na ninajikurubisha Kwako kupitia kwa malaika Wako wa karibu na mitume Wako waliotumwa, na kupitia Kwako, Ee Mwenyezi Mungu; Wewe ni Mkwasi usiyenihitajia mimi, nami ni mhitaji Kwako. Wewe Huna haja nami na mimi ni masikini Kwako. Umesamehe makosa yangu na kusitiri dhambi zangu, basi timiza leo haja yangu, wala usiniadhibu kwa ubaya wa yale Unayoyajua kutoka kwangu, bali msamaha Wako na ukarimu Wako unitosheleze.

يَا اَهَلَ التَّقْوْى
Yā ahala at-taqwā
O worthy to be feared!
Ee Mwenye kustahili kuogopwa!
وَ يَا اَهْلَ الْمَغْفِرَةِ
Wa yā ahla al-maghfirati
O worthy to forgive!
Ee Mwenye kupaswa kuomba msamaha Kwake!
يَا بَرُّ يَا رَحِيْمُ
Yā barru yā raḥīmu
O All-benign! O All-merciful!
Ee Mwema mno! Ee Mwenye kurehemu!
أَنْتَ اَبَرُّبِى مِنْ اَبِى وَ أَمَّىْ
ʾanta abarrubiā min abiā wa ʾammā
You are more benign to me than my father, my mother,
Wewe ni mwema zaidi kwangu kuliko baba yangu na mama yangu,
وَ مِنْ جَمِيْعِ الْخَلَايِقِ
Wa min jamīʿi al-khalāyiqi
and all creatures.
na kuliko viumbe vyote.
اِقْلِبْنِى بِقَضَاءِ حَاجَتِىْ
Iqlibniā biqaḍāʾi ḥājatiā
(Please) make me return having my request granted (by You),
(Tafadhali) nirejeshe huku haja yangu ikiwa imekubaliwa (na Wewe),
مُجَابًا دُعَائِىْ
Mujāban duʿāʾiā
having my prayer responded,
dua yangu ikiwa imejibiwa,
مَرْحُوْمًا صَوْتِىْ
Marḥūman ṣawtiā
having my voice compassionated,
sauti yangu ikiwa imerehemewa,
قَدْ كَشَفْتَ اَنْوَاعَ الْبَلَآءِ عَنَّىْ.
Qad kashafta anwāʿa al-balaʾāʾi ʿannā.
and having all sorts of tribulation held off from me.
na ukiwa umeondoa aina zote za mitihani na mabalaa kutoka kwangu.

Raḍītu biāllhi rabbā wa bimuḥammadin nabiyyan wa biālʾislāmi dīnan wa biālqurāni kitāban wa bifulānin wa fulānin āʾimatan Allāhumma waliyuka fulānu fāḥfaẓuhu min bayni yadayhi wa min khalfihi wa ʿan yamīnihi wa ʿan shimālihi wa min fawqihi wa min taḥtihi wāmdudu lahu fiā ʿumrihi wājʿalhu al-qāʾima biāmrika wālmuntaṣira lidīnika wa ārihi mā yuḥibbu wa mā taqirru bihi ʿaynuhu fiā nafsihi wa dhurriyyatihi wa fiā ahlihi wa mālihi wa fiā shīʿatihi wa fiā ʿaduwwihi wa arihim minhu mā yakhdharūna wa ārihi fīhim mā yuḥibbu wa taqirrubihi ʿaynuhu wāshfi ṣudūranā wa ṣudūra qawmin muʾminīna.
I am pleased with Allah as Lord, with Muhammad as Prophet, with Islam as religion, with the Qur'an as Book, and with [so-and-so] as Imams. O Allah, Your guardian is [so-and-so], so protect him from before him, from behind him, from his right, from his left, from above him, and from beneath him, and extend his life, and make him the one who rises with Your command, the champion of Your religion, and show him what he loves and what delights his eye concerning himself, his offspring, his family, his wealth, his followers, and his enemies. Show them from him what they fear, and show him regarding them what he loves and delights his eye, and heal our chests and the chests of the believing people.
Nimeridhika na Mwenyezi Mungu kuwa Mola wangu, na Muhammad kuwa Nabii wangu, na Uislamu kuwa dini yangu, na Qur'ani kuwa Kitabu changu, na [fulani na fulani] kuwa Maimamu wangu. Ee Mwenyezi Mungu, walii Wako ni [fulani], basi mlinde kutoka mbele yake na kutoka nyuma yake, na upande wake wa kulia na upande wake wa kushoto, na kutoka juu yake na chini yake, na umrefushie umri wake, na mjalie kuwa mwenye kusimamia amri Yako na mtetezi wa dini Yako, na muonyeshe kile anachokipenda na kinachoburudisha macho yake katika nafsi yake, kizazi chake, familia yake, mali yake, wafuasi yake, na adui yake, na uwaonyeshe kutoka kwake yale wanayoyahofia, na muonyeshe miongoni mwao kile anachokipenda na kinachoburudisha macho yake, na ponya vifua vyetu na vifua vya watu waumini.

Kila alipomaliza swala ya wajibu, Mtume Mtukufu (s.a.w.w) alikuwa akisoma dua hii:
Baʿda al-mawti, wa ladhata al-manẓari ʾilā wajhika wa shawqan ʾilā ruʾʾayatika wa liqāʾika min ghayri ḍaraʾāʾa muṣirratin walā fithnatin muḍilati Allāhumma zayyannā bizīnati al-āymāni wājʿalnā hudātin muhtadīna Allāhumma ahdinā fīman hadayta Allāhumma ʾinnā asʾaluka ʿazīmata ar-rashādi wāltthabāta fī al-ʾamri wa ar-rushda wāstaluka shukra niʿmatika wa ḥusna ʿāfiyatika wa ādaʾāʾa ḥaqqaka wāsʾaluka yā rabbi qalban salīman wa lisānan ṣādiqan wāstaghfiruka limā taʿlamu wa asʾaluka khayra mā taʿlamu wa aʿūdhu bika min sharra mā taʿlamu fānnaka taʿlamu walā naʿlamu wa ʾanta ʿalāmu al-ghuyūbi.
after death, and the pleasure of gazing upon Your face, and the yearning to see You and meet You, without any harmful adversity or misleading trial. O Allah, beautify us with the adornment of faith, and make us rightly guiding and rightly guided. O Allah, guide us among those You have guided. O Allah, I ask You for the determination of right guidance, and steadfastness in the matter, and maturity. And I ask You for thankfulness for Your favors, and the goodness of Your well-being, and the fulfillment of Your right. And I ask You, O Lord, for a sound heart and a truthful tongue. And I seek Your forgiveness for what You know, and I ask You for the best of what You know, and I seek refuge in You from the evil of what You know, for surely You know and we know not, and You are the Knower of the unseen.
baada ya kifo, na utamu wa kutazama uso Wako (rehema Zako), na shauku ya kukuona na kukutana nawe, bila madhara yenye kuumiza wala mtihani wenye kupoteza. Ee Mwenyezi Mungu, tupambe kwa pambo la imani, na utufanye waongozaji tulioongoka. Ee Mwenyezi Mungu, tuongoze miongoni mwa ulio waongoza. Ee Mwenyezi Mungu, hakika nakuomba azma ya uongofu, na uthabiti katika mambo na ukomavu. Na nakuomba shukrani ya neema Zako, na uzuri wa afya Yako na utekelezaji wa haki Yako. Na nakuomba, Ee Mola wangu, moyo uliosafika na ulimi mkweli. Na nakuomba msamaha kwa yale Unayoyajua, na nakuomba kheri ya yale Unayoyajua, na ninajikinga Kwako kutokana na shari ya yale Unayoyajua, kwani hakika Wewe Unajua na sisi hatujui, na Wewe ndiye Mjuzi wa yaliyofichikana.

Tano: Imepokewa kutoka kwa Imam al-Sadiq ('a) akisema: Yeyote anayesoma maneno haya katika kila swala ya wajibu, atakuwa amejilinda yeye mwenyewe, nyumba yake, mali yake, na watoto wake:
أُجِيْرُ نَفْسِى وَ مَالِى
ʾujīru nafsiā wa māliā
I seek protection for myself, my property,
Najikinga mimi mwenyewe na mali yangu,
وَ وَلَدِىْ وَ اَهْلِىْ وَ دَارِىْ
Wa waladiā wa ahliā wa dāriā
my children, my family, my house,
na watoto wangu, na familia yangu, na nyumba yangu,
وَ كُلِّ مَا هُوَ مِنِّىْ
Wa kulli mā huwa minniā
and all that belongs to me,
na kila kilicho changu,
بِاللهِ الْوَاحِدِ
Biāllhi al-wāḥidi
by Allah, the One,
kwa Mwenyezi Mungu Mmoja,
الْاَحَدِ الصَّمَدِ
Al-āḥadi aṣ-ṣamadi
the Unique, the Absolute,
Mmoja Pekee, Mtegemewa,
الَذِىْ لَمْ يَلِدْ وَ لَمْ يُوْلَدْ
Adh-dhiā lam yalid wa lam yūlad
Who begets not, nor is He begotten,
Ambaye hazai wala hazaliwi,
وَ لَمْ يَكُنْ لَهُ كُفُوَا اَحَدٌ
Wa lam yakun lahu kufuwā aḥadun
and there is none like unto Him.
na hapana yeyote anayefanana naye.
وَ أُجِيْرُ نَفْسِىْ وَ مَالِى
Wa ʾujīru nafsiā wa māliā
And I seek protection for myself, my property,
Na najikinga mimi mwenyewe na mali yangu,
وَ وَلَدِى وَ كُلِّ مَا هُوَ مِنِّىْ
Wa waladiā wa kulli mā huwa minniā
my children, and all that belongs to me,
na watoto wangu, na kila kilicho changu,
بِرَبِّ الْفَلَقِ
Birabbi al-falaqi
by the Lord of the daybreak,
kwa Mola Mlezi wa mapambazuko,
مِنْ شَرِّ مَا خَلَقَ
Min sharri mā khalaqa
from the evil of what He has created,
kutokana na shari ya alivyoviumba,
وَمِنْ شَرِّ غَاسِقٍ اِذَا وَقَبَ
Wamin sharri ghāsiqin idhā waqaba
and from the evil of the darkening night when it overspreads,
na kutokana na shari ya giza linapoingia,
وَمِن شَرِّ النَّفَّاثَاتِ فِي الْعَقَدِ
Wamin sharri an-naffāthāti fī al-ʿaqadi
and from the evil of those who blow on knots,
na kutokana na shari ya wanaopulizia kwenye fundo,
وَمِن شَرِّ حَاسِدٍ إِذَا حَسَدَ
Wamin sharri ḥāsidin ʾidhā ḥasada
and from the evil of an envier when he envies.
na kutokana na shari ya mwenye kuhusudu anapohusudu.
Mā huwa minnan birabbi an-nāsi maliki an-nāsi al-hi an-nāsi min sharri al-waswāsi al-khanāsi adh-dhī yuwaswisu fī ṣudūri an-nāsi mina al-jinnati wālnnāsi
that belongs to me by the Lord of mankind, the King of mankind, the God of mankind, from the evil of the whisperer who withdraws, who whispers into the chests of mankind, from among the jinn and mankind.
kilicho changu kwa Mola Mlezi wa watu, Mfalme wa watu, Mungu wa watu, kutokana na shari ya wasiwasi wa Shetani khannas, anayetia wasiwasi katika vifua vya watu, miongoni mwa majini na watu.
Wa ʾujīru nafsiā wa māliā wa waladiā wa kulla mā huwa minnā biāllhi lā al-ha al-ā huwa al-ḥā al-qayyūmu lā taʾkhudhuhu sinatun walā nawmun lahu mā fī as-samāwāti wamā fī al-ārḍiman dhā adh-dhī yashfaʿu ʿindahu al-ā biʾidhnihi yaʿlamu mā bayna āydīhim wamā khalfahum walā yuḥīṭūna bishayʾin man ʿilmihi al-ā bimā shaʾāʾa wasiʿa kursiyuhu as-samāwāti wālārḍa walā yaʾūduhu ḥifẓuhumā wahuwa al-ʿaliyyu al-ʿaẓīmu.
And I seek protection for myself, my property, my children, and all that belongs to me by Allah, there is no god but He, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of all existence. Neither slumber overtakes Him nor sleep. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. Who is it that can intercede with Him except by His permission? He knows what is before them and what is behind them, and they encompass not a thing of His knowledge except for what He wills. His Kursi extends over the heavens and the earth, and their preservation tires Him not. And He is the Most High, the Most Great.
Na najikinga mimi mwenyewe, na mali yangu, na watoto wangu, na kila kilicho changu kwa Mwenyezi Mungu, hapana mungu isipokuwa Yeye, Aliye Hai daima, Msimamia kila jambo. Haishiwi na kusinzia wala usingizi. Ni Vyake vilivyomo mbinguni na vilivyomo duniani. Ni nani huyo anayeweza kuombea mbele Yake isipokuwa kwa idhini Yake? Anajua yaliyo mbele yao na yaliyo nyuma yao, wala wao hawajui chochote katika elimu Yake isipokuwa kwa alitakalo Yeye. Enzi Yake imeenea mbinguni na duniani, wala hailemei kuvilinda viwili hivyo, naye ndiye Aliye Juu kabisa, Mtukufu mno.
