ZIYARAH ON THE DAY OF GHADEER Second: Though authoritative chains of authority, It is narrated that lmam 'Ali ibn Muhammad al-Hadi ('a) said the following form of ziyarah at the holy tomb of Imam 'Ali Amir

al-Mu'minin ('a) on the Ghadir day when he was summoned by the 'Abbasid ruler, al-Mu'tasim, to be present before him in Iraq:

With the intention of visiting the holy tomb of Imam 'Ali ('a), you may stop at the gate of the dome of the holy shrine and seek permission of entrance. However, Shaykh al-Mufid says that you may wash yourself, put on the cleanest of your

clothes, and say the following form of seeking permission, which, beginning with the following statement, has been cited in the previous section of this book:

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنَّى وَقَفْتُ عَلَى بَابٍ

Oh God, I stood at a door

You may then enter there with your right foot and walk until

you stop at the holy tomb, which you may face and make the

kiblah direction to be between your shoulders. There, you

may say the following words:

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ رَسُوْلِ اللهِ

Peace be upon Muhammad, the Messenger of God

خَاتَمِ النَّبِيِّيْنَ

The Seal of the Prophets

وَ سَيِّدِ المُرْسَلِيْنَ

And the Master of Messengers

وَ صَفْوَةٍ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِيْنَ

And the elite of the Lord of the worlds

آَمِيْنِ اللهِ عَلَى وَحْيِهِ

Amen to God for his revelation

وَ عَزَآئِمِ آَمْرِهِ

And the strength of his command

وَ الْخَاتِمِ لِمَا سَبَقَ

And the seal for what came before

وَ الْفَاتِحِ لِمَا اسْتُقْبِلَ

And Al-Fatih when it came

وَ الْمُهَيْمِنِ عَلَى ذَلِكَ كُلَّهِ

And the one who dominates all of that

وَ رَخْمَةُ اللهِ وَ بَرَكَاتُهُ

And God's mercy and blessings

وَ صَلَوَاتُهُ وَ تَحِيَّاتُهُ

And his prayers and greetings

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَى اَنْبِيَآءِ اللهِ وَ رُسُلِهِ

Peace be upon God’s prophets and messengers

وَ مَلَائِكَتِهِ الْمُقَرَّبِيْنَ

And His close angels

وَ عِبَادِهِ الضَّالِحِيْنَ

And His misguided servants

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَآ أَمِيْرَ الْمُؤْمِنِيْنَ

Peace be upon you, O Commander of the Faithful

وَ سَيِّدَ الْوَصِيِّيْنَ

And the Master of Guardians

وَ وَارِثَ عِلَمِ النَّبِيِّيْنَ

And the inheritor of the knowledge of the prophets

وَ وَلِيَّ رَبَّ الْعَالَمِيْنَ

And my friend is the Lord of the worlds

وَ مَؤْلَايَ وَ مَؤْلَى الْمُؤْمِنِيْنَ

And my family and the home of the believers

وَ رَحْمَةُ اللهِ وَ بَرَكَاتُهُ

And God's mercy and blessings

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا مَوْلَايَ يَا أَمِيْرَ الْمُؤْمِنِيْنَ

Peace be upon you, O my Lord, O Commander of the Faithful

يَآ آَمِيْنَ اللهِ فِي اَرضِهِ

Oh Amen, may God be in his land

وَ سَفِيْرَهُ فِيْ خَلْقِهِ

And His ambassador is in His creation

وَ حُجَتَهُ الْبَالِغَةَ عَلَى عِبَادِهِ.

And His decisive argument against His servants.

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا دِيْنَ اللهِ الْقَوِيْمَ

Peace be upon you, O upright religion of God.

وَ صِرَاطَهُ الْمُسْتَقِيْمَ

And His straight path

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ آَيُّهَا النَّبَأ الْعَظِيمُ

Peace be upon you, O great news.

الَّذِي هُمْ فِيْهِ مُخْتَلِفُوْنَ

In which they differ

وَ عَنْهُ يُسْاَلَوْنَ

And they are asked about him

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَآ اَمِيْرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ

Peace be upon you, O Commander of the Faithful

أَمَنْتَ بِاللهِ وَ هُمْ مُشْرِكُوْنَ

You believed in God while they were polytheists

وَ صَدَّقْتَ بِالْحَقَّ وَ هُمْ مُكَذِّبُوْنَ

And you believed the truth while they were liars.

وَ جَاهَدْتَ [فِي اللّه] وَ هُمْ مُخجِمُوْنَ [مُجْمِحُوْنَ]

And I struggled [for the sake of God] while they were aghast.

وَ عَبَدْتَ اللهَ مُخْلِصًا لَهُ الدِّيْنَ

And I worshiped God, making my religion sincere to Him

صَابِرًا مُختَسِبًا حَتّى آَتَاكَ الْيَقِيْنُ

Patient and determined until certainty comes to you

اَلَا لَعْنَةُ اللهِ عَلَى الظَالِمِيْنَ

Except the curse of God be upon the wrongdoers

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا سَيِّدَ الْمُسْلِمِيْنَ

Peace be upon you, O Master of Muslims.

وَ يَعْسُوْبَ الْمُؤْمِنِيْنَ

And the dragonfly of the believers

وَ اِمَامَ الْمُتَّقِيْنَ

And in front of the righteous

وَ قَائِدَ الْغُرِّ الْمُحَجَلِيْنَ

And the leader of the green-haired people

وَ رَخْمَةُ اللهِ وَ بَرَكَاتُهُ

And God's mercy and blessings

آَشْهَدُ اَنَّكَ آَخُوْ رَسُوْلِ اللهِ

I bear witness that you are the brother of the Messenger of God

وَ وَصِيُّهُ وَ وَارِثُ عِلَمِهِ

His executor and heir of his knowledge

وَ أَمِيْتُهُ عَلَى شَرْعِهِ

I made him illiterate according to his law

وَ خَلِيفَتُهُ فِيْ اَمَّتِهِ،

And his successor among his nation,

وَ اَوَّلُ مَنْ أمَنَ بِاللهِ

And the first to believe in God

وَ صَدَّقَ بِمَا أُنْزِلَ عَلَى نَبِيِّهِ

And he believed what was revealed to his Prophet

وَ اَشْهَدُ اَنَّهُ قَدْ بَلِّغَ عَنِ اللهِ مَا اَنْزَلَهُ فِيْكَ

And I bear witness that what He revealed about you has conveyed on behalf of God

فَصَدَعَ بِآَمْرِهِ

So he issued his command

وَ اَوْجَبَ عَلَى اُمَّتِهِ فَرْضَ طَاعَتِكَ وَ وِلَايَتِكَ

And He made it obligatory upon his nation to obey you and protect you.

وَ عَقَدَ عَلَيْهِمُ الْبَيْعَةَ لَكَ

And he concluded a pledge of allegiance with them to you

وَ جَعَلَكَ اَوْلَى بِالْمُؤْمِنِينَ مِنْ اَنْفُسِهِمْ

And He made you closer to the believers than themselves.

كَمَا جَعَلَهُ اللهُ كَذلِكَ

As God made him so

ثُمَّ اَشْهَدَ اللهَ تَعَالَى عَلَيْهِمْ

Then God Almighty bore witness against them

فَقَالَ: "اَلَسْتُ قَدْ بَلَّغْتُ؟"

He said: “Am I not yet conveyed the message?”

فَقَالُوا: "اَللَهُمَّ بَلْى"

They said: “By God, yes.”

فَقَالَ: اَللَهُمَّ اشْهَدْ،

He said: Oh God, bear witness.

وَ كَفِى بِكَ شَهِيْدًا وَ حَاكِمًا بَيْنَ الْعِبَادِ"

And sufficient for you is a witness and an arbitrator between the servants.”

فَلَعَنَ اللهُ جَاحِدَ وِلَايَتِكَ بَعْدَ الْإِقْرَارِ

May God curse the one who denies your mandate after confirmation.

وَ نَاكِثَ عَهْدِكَ بَعْدَ الْمِيْثَاقِ

And he broke your covenant after the covenant.

وَ اَشْهَدُ اَنَّكَ وَفَيْتَ بِعَهْدِ اللهِ تَعَالَى

And I bear witness that you have fulfilled your covenant with God Almighty.

وَ اَنَّ اللهَ تَعَالَى مُؤْفِ لَكَ بِعَهْدِهِ

And God Almighty will fulfill His covenant with you.

وَ مَنْ اَوْفِى بِمَا عَاهَدَ عَلَيْهُ اللهَ فَسَيُوْتِيْهِ آَجْرًا عَظِيْمًا

And whoever fulfills what God has covenanted with, He will be given a great reward.

وَ اَشْهَدُ أَنَّكَ آَمِيْرُ الْمُؤْمِنِيْنَ الْحَقُّ

And I bear witness that you are the True Commander of the Believers

الَّذِيْ نَطَقَ بِوِلَايَتِكَ التَّنْزِيْلُ

Who pronounced your mandate of revelation?

وَ اَخَذَ لَكَ الْعَهْدَ عَلَى الْأُمَّةِ بِذْلِكَ الرَّسُوْلَ

And he took for you a covenant over the nation by that Messenger.

وَ اَشْهَدُ أَنَّكَ وَ عَمَّكَ وَ آَخَاكَ

I bear witness that you, your uncle, and your brother

الَّذِيْنَ تَاجَرْتُمُ اللهَ بِنُفُوْسِكُمْ،

You have traded with God for your souls,

فَانْزَلَ اللهُ فِيْكُمْ:

So God revealed to you:

{اِنَّ اللهَ اشتَرْى مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ اَنْفُسَهُمْ وَ اَمْوَالَهُمْ

{Indeed, God has purchased from the believers their souls and their wealth.

بِاَنَّ لَهُمُ الْجَنَّةَ

By granting them Paradise

يُقَاتِلُوْنَ فِيْ سَبِيْلِ اللهِ فَيَقْتُلُوْنَ وَ يُقْتَلُوْنَ

They fight in the cause of God, and they kill and are killed.

وَغَدًا عَلَيْهِ حَقًّا فِي التَّوْرِيةِ وَ الْإِنْجِيْلِ وَ الْقُرْاْنِ

And tomorrow he will have a right in the Torah, the Gospel, and the Qur’an.

وَ مَنْ اَوْفِى بِعَهْدِهِ مِنَ اللهِ؟

And who is more faithful to his covenant than God?

فَاسْتَبْشِرُوْا بِبَيْعِكُمُ الَّذِيْ بَايَعْتُمْ بِهِ

So rejoice in the sale you made with it.

وَ ذَلِكَ هُوَ الْفَوْزُ الْعَظِيمُ

And that is the great victory

الثَّائِبُوْنَ العَابِدُوْنَ

The tyrant and worshipers

الْحَامِدُوْنَ السَّائِحُوْنَ

The praiseworthy tourists

الرَّاكِعُوْنَ السَّاجِدُوْنَ

Those who kneel and prostrate

الْأمِرُوْنَ بِالْمَعْرُوْفِ وَ النَّاهُوْنَ عَنِ الْمُتْكَرِ

Those who enjoin good and forbid evil

وَ الْحَافِظُوْنَ لِحْدُوْدِ اللهِ وَ بَشَّرِ الْمُؤْمِنِيْنَ}

And those who maintain the limits of God, and give good news to the believers.}

اَشْهَدُ يَا اَمِيْرَ الْمُؤْمِنِيْنَ

I bear witness, O Commander of the Faithful

آَنَّ الشَّآكَ فِيْكَ مَا اَمَنَ بِالرَّسُوْلِ الْأَمِيْنِ

The one who doubts you has not believed in the trustworthy Messenger

وَ آَنَّ الْعَادِلَ بِكَ غَيْرَكَ عَانِدٌ [عَادِلٌ] عَنِ الدِّيْنِ الْقَوِيْمِ

And the one who treats you justly, other than you, is stubborn [averse] from the upright religion.

الَّذِي ارْتَضَاهُ لَنَا رَبُّ العَالِمِيْنَ

Which the Lord of the worlds has chosen for us

وَ اَكْمَلَهُ بِوِلَايَتِكَ يَوْمَ الْغَدِيْرِ

And complete it with your authority on the Day of Ghadir.

وَ اَشْهَدُ أَنَّكَ الْمَعْنِيُّ بِقَوْلِ الْعَزِيْزِ الرَّحِيْمِ:

And I bear witness that you are the one concerned with the words of the Mighty, the Most Merciful:

وَ اَنَّ هَذَا صِرَاطِيْ مُسْتَقِيْمًا فَاتَّبِعُوْهُ وَ لَا تَتَبِعْوْا السُّبْلَ فَتَفَرَقِ بِكُمْ عَنْ سَبِيْلِهِ

And this is My path, straight, so follow it, and do not follow other paths, lest they separate you from His path.

ضَلَّ وَ اللهِ وَ آَضَلَ مَن اتَّبَعَ سِوَاكَ

By God, he has gone astray, and whoever follows anyone other than you has gone astray.

وَ عَنَدَ عَنِ الْحَقَّ مَنْ عَادَاكَ.

And those who are hostile to you turn away from the truth.

اَللَهُمَّ سَمِعْنَا لامْرِكَ

Oh God, we hear your command

وَ اَطَعْنَا وَ اتَّبَعْنَا صِرَاطَكَ الْمُسْتَقِيْمَ

And we obeyed and followed your straight path.

فَاهْدِنَا رَبَّنَا

So guide us, our Lord

وَ لَا تُزِغُ قُلُوْبَنَا بَعْدَ اِذْ هَدَيْتَنَا إِلَى طَاعَتِكَ

And do not let our hearts deviate after you have guided us to your obedience.

وَ اجْعَلْنَا مِنَ الشَّاكِرِيْنَ لِانْعُمِكَ

And make us among those who are thankful for Your blessings

وَ اَشْهَدُ أَنَّكَ لَمْ تَزَلْ لِلْهَوْى مُخَالِفًا

And I bear witness that you have never ceased to be indifferent to desires.

وَ لِلتّقى مُحَالِفًا

And he is bound by piety

وَ عَلَى كَظْمِ الْغَيْظِ قَادِرًا

And he is able to suppress anger

وَ عَنِ النَّاسِ عَافِيًا غَافِرًا

And on behalf of people, He is compassionate and forgiving

وَ إِذَا عُصِيَ اللهُ سَاخِطًا

And if God is disobeyed, he becomes angry

وَ اِذَا اَطِيْعَ اللهُ رَاضِيًا

And if he obeys God, he is satisfied

وَ بِمَا عَهِدَ اِلَيْكَ عَامِلَا

And he will do what he has covenanted with you

رَاعِيًا لِمَا اسْتُحفِظْتَ

Take care of what you have memorized

حَافِظًا لِمَا اسْتُوْدِعْتَ

Preserving what was entrusted to you

مُبَلِّغًا مَا حُمَّلْتَ

Informing what you carried

مُنْتَظِرًا مَا وُعِدْتَ

Waiting for what you promised

وَ اَشْهَدُ أَنَّكَ مَا اتَّقَيْتَ ضَارِعًا

And I bear witness that you have never feared a multiplier

وَ لَا آَمْسَكْتَ عَنْ حَقَّكَ جَازِعًا

And have you not withheld your right out of fear?

وَ لَا اَحْجَمْتَ عَنْ مُجَاهَدَةٍ غَاصِبِيْكَ [عَاصِيْكَ] نَاكِلًا

Nor have you refrained from striving against your oppressors [your disobedient ones].

وَ لَا اَظْهَرْتَ الرِّضْى بِخِلَافِ مَا يُرْضِي اللهَ مُدَاهِنَا

Nor did you show contentment other than what pleases God, our praiser.

وَ لَا وَهَنْتَ لِمَا اَصَابَكَ فِيْ سَبِيْلِ اللهِ،

And do not become weak because of what befalls you in the path of God.

وَ لَا ضَعْفْتَ وَ لَا اسْتَكَنْتَ عَنْ طَلَبِ حَقَّكَ مُرَاقِبًا

You have not weakened, nor have you neglected to seek your rights, while you are being watched.

مَعَاذَ اللهِ اَنْ تَكُوْنَ كَذْلِكَ

God forbid it be like that

بَلْ اِذْ ظُلِمْتَ اختَسَبْتَ رَبَّكَ

Rather, when you were wronged, you disdained your Lord

وَ فَوَّضْتَ اِلَيْهِ اَمْرَكَ

And you delegated your command to him

وَ ذَكِّرْتَهُمْ فَمَا ادَّكَرُوْا

And I reminded them, but they did not remember

وَ وَعَظْتَهُمْ فَمَا اتَّعَظُوا

And I preached to them, but they did not learn

وَ خَوَّفْتَهُمُ اللهَ فَمَا تَخَوَّفُوا

And you made them fear God, but they did not fear

وَ اَشْهَدُ أَنَّكَ يَآ أَمِيْرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ

And I bear witness that you, O Commander of the Faithful

جَاهَدْتَ فِيْ اللهِ حَقَّ جِهَادِهِ

You have striven in God as He deserves

حَثُّى دَعَاكَ اللهُ إِلَى جِوَارِهِ

God called you to his side

وَ قَبَضَكَ اِلَيْهِ بِاخْتِيَارِهِ

And He took you to Him by His choice

وَ الْزَمَ اَعْدَآءَكَ الْحُجَةَ بِقَتَلِهِمْ اِيَّاكَ

And bind your enemies to the pretext of killing you.

لِتَكُوْنَ الْحُجَةُ لَكَ عَلَيْهِمْ

So that you may have proof against them

مَعَ مَا لَكَ مِنَ الْحُجَجِ الْبَالِغَةِ عَلَى جَمِيْعِ خَلْقِهِ

With the strong arguments you have against all of His creation.

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَآ اَمِيْرَ الْمُؤْمِنِيْنَ

Peace be upon you, O Commander of the Faithful

عَبَدْتَ اللهَ مُخْلِصًا

You worshiped God faithfully

وَ جَاهَدْتَ فِيْ اللهِ صَابِرًا

And I struggled for the sake of God, being patient

وَ جُدْتَ بِنَفْسِكَ مُحْتَسِبًا

And you found yourself seeking reward

وَ عَمِلْتَ بِكِتَابِهِ

And you followed his book

وَ اتَّبَعْتَ سُنَّةَ نَبِيِّهِ

And you followed the Sunnah of His Prophet

وَ اَقَمْتَ الضَّلَاةَ

And you raised up the misguided

وَ أتَيْتَ الزَّكَاةَ

And you paid zakat

وَ اَمَرْتَ بِالْمَعْرُوْفِ

and you enjoined what is good,

وَ نَهَيْتَ عَنِ الْمُنْكَرِ مَا اسْتَطَعْتَ

And you forbade evil as much as you were able

مُبْتَغِيَا مَا عِنْدَ اللهِ

Seeking what is with God

رَاغِبًا فِيْمَا وَعَدَ اللهُ

Desiring what God has promised

لَا تَخفِلُ بِالتَّوَآئِبِ

Do not be afraid of repentance

وَ لَا تَهِنُ عِنْدَ الشَّدَائِدِ،

And do not become weak in the face of adversity,

وَ لَا تُحْجِمُ عَنْ مُحَارِبٍ

And do not refrain from fighting

آَفِكَ مَنْ نَسَبَ غَيْرَ ذلِكَ اِلَيْكَ

I am sorry for anyone who attributes anything other than that to you

وَ افْتَرْى بَاطِلًا عَلَيْكَ

And he invents something false against you

وَ اَوْلَى لِمَنْ عَنَدَ عَنْكَ

And it is better for those who are with you

لَقَدْ جَاهَدْتَ فِي اللهِ حَقَّ الْجِهَادِ

You have fought for the sake of God in the right way

وَ صَبَرْتَ عَلَى الْاَذْى صَبْرَ احْتِسَابٍ

And you were patient with patience, seeking reward.

وَ أَنْتَ آَوَّلَ مَنْ أمَنَ بِاللهِ

And you are the first to believe in God

وَ صَلَّى لَهُ وَ جَاهَدَ

He prayed for him and struggled

وَ أَبْدِى صَفْحَتَهُ فِيْ دَارِ الشَّرْكِ

And he revealed his character in the house of polytheism.

وَ الْاَرْضُ مَشحُوْنَةٌ ضَلَالَةً

And the earth is full of error

وَ الشَّيْطَانُ يُعْبَدُ جَهْرَةً

Satan is worshiped openly

وَ أَنْتَ الْقَائِلَ: "لَا تَزِيْدُنِن كَثْرَةُ النَّاسِ حَوْلِي عِزَّةً

And you are the one who said: “The multitude of people around me does not increase my pride.”

وَ لَا تَفَرُّقُهُمْ عَنَّيْ وَحْشَةً

And do not separate them from Me alone

وَ لَوْ اَسْلَمَنِي النَّاسُ جَمِيْعًا لَمْ اَكُنْ مُتَضَرِّعَا"

And if all people had surrendered to me, I would not have been a supplicant.”

اِعْتَصَمْتَ بِاللهِ فَعَزَزْتَ

You held fast to God and you were strengthened

وَ اَثَرْتَ الْأَخِرَةَ عَلَى الْأُوْلَى فَزَهِدْتَ

And you preferred the afterlife over the first, so you renounced it.

وَ اَيَّدَكَ اللهُ وَ هَدَاكَ

May God support you and guide you

وَ اَخْلَصَكَ وَ اجْتَبَاكَ

He made you sincere and chose you

فَمَا تَنَاقَضَتْ اَفْعَالُكَ

Your actions did not contradict each other

وَ لَا اخْتَلَفَتْ اَڤوَالُكَ

And your words were not different

وَ لَا تَقَلَّبَثْ اَحْوَالُكَ

And do not change your circumstances

وَ لَا ادَّعَيْتَ وَ لَا افْتَرَيْتَ عَلَى اللهِ كَذِبًا

You have not claimed, nor have you fabricated a lie against God.

وَ لَا شَرِهْتَ إِلَى الْحُطَامِ

And you are not greedy for ruins

وَ لَا دَنَّسَكَ الْأٰثَامُ

Nor did iniquity defile you

وَ لَمْ تَزَلْ عَلَى بَيِّنَةٍ مِنْ رَبِّكَ

And you still have clear proof from your Lord

وَ يَقِيْنٍ مِنْ آَمْرِكَ

And certainty of your command

تَهْدِيْ إِلَى الْحَقُّ وَ إِلَى صِرَاطٍ مُسْتَقِيْمِ

guide you to the truth and to a straight path

اَشْهَدُ شَهَادَةَ حَقٌّ،

bear witness of truth,

وَ أُقْسِمُ بِاللهِ قَسَمَ صِدْقٍ

And I swear to God a true oath

اَنَّ مُحَمَّدا وَالَهُ صَلَوَاتُ اللهِ عَلَيهمْ سًت لَق

Indeed, Muhammad and his family, may God’s prayers be upon them six times

وَ أَنَّكَ مَؤْلَايَ وَ مَؤْلَى الْمُؤْمِنِيْنَ

And you are my companion and a companion of the believers.

وَ اَنَّكَ عَبْدُ اللهِ وَ وَلِيُهُ

And you are God's servant and guardian

وَ آَخُوْ الرَّسُوْلِ وَ وَصِيُّهُ وَ وَارِثُهُ

And the Messenger’s brother, guardian, and heir

وَ أَنَّهُ الْقَائِلُ لَكَ:

And it is he who says to you:

وَالَّذِيْ بَعَتَنِي بِالْحَقَّ مَا أمَنَ بِي مَنْ كَفَرَ بِكَ وَ لَا آَقَرَّ بِاللهِ مَنْ جَحَدَكَ وَ قَدْ ضَلَّ

By the one who sold me with the truth, he who disbelieves in you does not believe in me, nor acknowledges God. He who denies you has gone astray.

مَنْ صَدَّ عَنْكَ وَ لَمْ يَهْتَدِ إِلَى اللهِ وَ لَا اِلَيَّ مَنْ لَا يَهْتَدِيْ بِكَ وَ هُوَ قَوْلُ رَبَّيِ عَزَّ وَ

Whoever turns away from you and is not guided to God nor to Me, who is not guided by you, and this is the word of my Lord, the Mighty and Majestic.

جَلَّ: وَ إِنِّيْ لَغَفَّارْ لِمَنْ تَابَ وَ أمَنَ وَ عَمِلَ صَالِحًا ثُمَّ اهْتَدْى إِلَى وِلَايَتِكَ

Majesty: And indeed, I am Forgiver of whoever repents and believes and does righteousness and then is guided to your guardianship.

مَوْلَايَ فَضْلُكَ لَا يَخْفَى

My Lord, your grace is not hidden

وَ نُوْرُكَ لَا يُظفَأُ [لَا يُظفى]

And your light will not be extinguished [it will not be quenched]

وَ اَنَّ مَنْ جَحَدَكَ الظَّلَوْمُ الْاَشْقَى

And indeed, he who denies you is the most miserable of injustice.

مَوْلَايَ أَنْتَ الْحُجَةُ عَلَى الْعِبَادِ

My Lord, you are the proof for the servants

وَ الْهَادِيْ إِلَى الرَّشَادِ

And the guide to guidance

وَ الْعُدَّةُ لِلْمَعَادِ

And the preparation for the appointed time

مَوْلَايَ لَقَدْ رَفَعَ اللَهُ فِي الْأُوْلَى مَنْزِلَتَكَ

My lord, God has raised your status in the first place.

وَ آَغْلَى فِي الْأَخِرَةِ دَرَجَتَكَ

And the most precious in the afterlife is your rank.

وَ بَصَّرَكَ مَا عَمِيَ عَلَى مَنْ خَالَفَكَ

And He made you see what was blind to those who opposed you.

وَ حَالَ بَيْنَكَ وَ بَيْنَ مَوَاهِبِ اللهِ لَكَ،

And what comes between you and God’s gifts to you,

فَلَعَنَ اللهُ مُسْتَجِلِّي الْحُرْمَةِ مِنْكَ

May God curse those who violate your sanctity

وَ ذَائِدِي الْحَقَّ عَنْكَ

And those who seek the truth from you

وَ اَشْهَدُ اَنَّهُمُ الْاَخْسَرُوْنَ

And I bear witness that they are the losers

الَذِيْنَ تَلْفَحُ وُجُوْهَهُمُ النَّارُ

Those whose faces are blazing with fire

وَ هُمْ فِيْهَا كَالِحُوْنَ

And they are therein like lions

وَ اَشهَدُ اَنَّكَ مَا اَقْدَمْتَ وَ لَا آَخجَمْتَ

And I bear witness that you have neither acted forward nor been reckless.

وَ لَا نَطَقْتَ وَ لَا اَمْسَكْتَ

You did not speak, nor did you hold back

اِلَّا بِآَمْرِ مِنَ اللهِ وَ رَسُوْلِهِ

Except by command from God and His Messenger

قُلْتَ: "وَ الَّذِيْ نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ،

You said: “By the One in whose hand is my soul,

لَقَدْ نَظَرَ اِلَيَّ رَسُوْلُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَ ألِهِ

The Messenger of God, may God bless him and his family, looked at me.

اَضْرِبُ بِالسَّيْفِ قُدْمَا فَقَالَ:

Strike with the sword forward, and he said:

'يَا عَلِيُّ أَنْتَ مِنَّيْ بِمَنْزِلَةِ هَارُوْنَ مِنْ مُؤْسى

'O Ali, you are to me what Aaron was to Musa.

إِلَّا آَنَّهُ لَا نَبِيَّ بَعْدِيْ

Except that there is no prophet after me

وَ اُعْلِمُكَ اَنَّ مَؤْتَكَ وَ حَيَاتَكَ مَعِيْ وَ عَلَى سُنَّتِيْ"

And I inform you that your death and your life are with me and upon my Sunnah.”

فَوَ اللهِ مَا كَذِبْتُ وَ لَا كُذِبْتُ

By God, I have not lied nor have I lied.

وَ لَا ضَلَلْتُ وَ لَا ضُلَّ بِيْ

I did not go astray, nor was I misled

وَلَا نَسِيْتُ مَا عَهِدَ إِلَيَّ رَبِّيْ

And I have not forgotten what my Lord has entrusted me with.

وَ إِنَّي لَعَلى بَيِّنَةٍ مِنْ رَبِّيْ بَيّنَهَا لِنَبِيَّهِ

And indeed, I have clear proof from my Lord, which He explained to His Prophet

وَ بَيَّنَهَا النَّبِيُّ لِيْ

The Prophet explained it to me

وَ اِنَّيْ لَعَلَى الطَّرِيْقِ الْوَاضِحِ اَلْفِظُهُ لَفْظَا"

And I am on the clear path, word for word.”

صَدَقْتَ وَ اللهِ وَ قُلْتَ الْحَقَّ

By God, you spoke the truth and spoke the truth

فَلَعَنَ اللهُ مَنْ سَاوَاكَ بِمَنْ نَاوَاكَ

May God curse the one who equates you with the one who sympathizes with you

وَ اللهُ جَلَّ اسْمُهُ يَقُوْلُ: "هَلْ يَسْتَوِيْ الَّذِيْنَ يَعْلَمُوْنَ وَ الَّذِيْنَ لَا يَعْلَمُوْنَ؟"

And God, glory be to His name, says: “Are those who know and those who do not know equal?”

فَلَعَنَ اللهُ مَنْ عَدَلَ بِكَ مَنْ فَرَضَ اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وِلَا يَتَكَ

May God curse whoever treats you justly, and whoever God has made obligatory upon you, let him not do so.

وَ أَنْتَ وَلِيُّ اللهِ

And you are God's guardian

وَ اَخُوْ رَسُوْلِهِ

And the brother of His Messenger

وَ الذَّآبُّ عَنْ دِيْنِهِ

And he renounces his religion

وَ الَذِيْ نَطَقَ الْقُرْاْنُ بِتَفْضِيْلِهِ

And the one in whom the Qur’an declared its superiority.

قَالَ اللهُ تَعَالَى:

God Almighty said:

وَ فَضَّلَ اللهُ الْمُجَاهِدِيْنَ عَلَى الْقَاعِدِيْنَ آَجْرًا عَظِيمَا دَرَجَاتٍ مِنْهُ وَ مَغْفِرَةً وَ رَحْمَةً

And God favored the mujahideen over those who remained silent, with a great reward, degrees from Him, and forgiveness and mercy.

وَ كَانَ اللهُ غَفُوْرًا رَجِيْمًا

And God is Forgiving, Most Merciful

وَ قَالَ اللهُ تَعَالَى:

And God Almighty said:

اَجَعَلْتُمْ سِقَايَةَ الْحَاجَ وَ عِمَارَةَ الْمَسْجِدِ الْحَرَامِ كَمَنْ أمَنَ بِاللهِ وَ الْيَوْمِ الْأَخِرِ وَ

You have made providing water for the pilgrims and maintaining the Sacred Mosque as one who believes in God and the Last Day and

جَاهَدَ فِي سَبِيْلِ اللهِ؟ لَا يَسْتَوُوْنَ عِنْدَ اللهِ وَ اللَهُ لَا يَهْدِي الْقَوْمَ الظَّالِمِيْنَ الَّذِيْنَ

Did he strive for the sake of God? They are not equal in the sight of God, and God does not guide the unjust people who

أَمَنُوْا وَ هَاجَرُوا وَ جَاهَدُوا فِيْ سَبِيْلِ اللهِ بِامْوَالِهِمْ وَ اَنْفُسِهِمْ اَعْظَمُ دَرَجَةً عِنْدَ

They believed, emigrated, and jihad in the cause of God with their wealth and their lives, a higher rank with

اللهِ وَ اُوْلِئِكَ هُمُ الْفَائِزُوْنَ يُبَشَّرُهُمْ رَبُّهُمْ بِرَحْمَةٍ مِنْهُ وَ رِضْوَانٍ وَ جَنَّاتٍ فِيْهَا نَعِيْهٌ

God, and those are the ones who will be victorious. Their Lord gives them good tidings of mercy from Him and His satisfaction and gardens in which there is an end.

مُقِيمٌ خَالِدِيْنَ فِيْهَا آَبَدًا إِنَّ اللهَ عِنْدَهُ اَجْرٌ عَظِيْمٌ

residing therein forever. Indeed, with God is a great reward.

اَشهَدُ أَنَّكَ الْمَخْصُوْصُ بِمِدْحَةِ اللهِ

I bear witness that you are the one designated for God’s praise

الْمُخْلِص لِطَاعَةِ اللهِ

Sincere to obey God

لَمْ تَبْغِ بِالْهُذْى بَدَلًا

You did not want anything in return

وَ لَمْ تُشْرِكْ بِعِبَادَةٍ رَبِّكَ آَحَدًا

And you have not associated with anyone in the worship of your Lord

وَ اَنَّ اللهَ تَعَالَى اسْتَجَابَ لِنَبِيِّهِ

And God Almighty responded to His Prophet

صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَ الِهِ فِيْكَ دَعْوَتَهُ

May God’s prayers and peace be upon him and his family is in you. His supplication is

ثُمَّ آَمَرَهُ بِإِظْهَارٍ مَا اَوْلَاكَ لِأُمَّتِهِ

Then I commanded him to show what he had given you to his nation.

اِعْلَاءً لِشَأْنِكَ

Uphold your status

وَ اِعْلانًا لِبُرْهَانِكَ

And an announcement of your proof

وَ دَخضًا لِلْاَبَاطِيْل

And in opposition to falsehoods

وَ قَطْعًا لِلْمَعَاذِيْرِ

And certainly for excuses

فَلَمَّا اَشْفَقَ مِنْ فِثْنَةٍ الْفَاسِقِيْنَ

When he became afraid of the wickedness of the transgressors,

وَ اتَّقى فِيْكَ الْمُنَافِقِيْنَ

And he feared the hypocrites among you

أَوْحَى اِلَيْهِ رَبُّ الْعَالَمِينَ:

The family of Muhammad is our leader

يَآ آَيُّهَا الرَّسُولُ بَلَغْ مَا أَنْزِلَ اِلَيْكَ مِنْ رَبِّكَ وَ اِنْ لَمْ تَفْعَلْ فَمَا بَلَغْتَ رِسَالَتَهُ وَ اللهُ

O Messenger, convey what has been sent down to you from your Lord, and if you do not do so, then you have not conveyed his message, by God.

يَعْصِمُكَ مِنَ النَّاسِ

He protects you from people

فَوَضَعَ عَلَى نَفْسِهِ اَوْزَارَ الْمَسِيْرِ

So he placed upon himself the burdens of the journey.

وَ نَهَضَ فِي رَمْضَاءِ الْهَجِيْرِ

And he got up in the afternoon heat

فَخَطَبَ وَ اَسْمَعَ

So he spoke and listened

وَ نَاذى فَابْلَغَ

And he called out and was informed

ثُمَّ سَاَلَهُمْ اَجْمَعَ

Then he asked them to gather

فَقَالَ: "هَلْ بَلَّغْتُ؟"

He said: “Have I conveyed the message?”

فَقَالُوا: "اَللَهُمَّ بَلْى"

They said: “By God, yes.”

فَقَالَ: "اَللّهُمَ اشْهَدْ"

He said: “Oh God, bear witness.”

ثُمَّ قَالَ: "اَلَسْتُ اَوْلَى بِالْمُؤْمِنِيْنَ مِنْ اَنْفُسِهِمْ؟"

Then he said: “Am I not closer to the believers than they are to themselves?”

فَقَالَوْا: "بَلى"

They said: “Yes.”

فَاَخَذَ بِيَدِكَ وَ قَالَ:

So he took your hand and said:

مَنْ كُنْتُ مَوْلَاهُ فَهِذَا عَلِيٌّ مَوْلَاهُ اَللَّهُمَّ وَالِ مَنْ وَالَاهُ وَ عَادٍ مَنْ عَادَاهُ وَ انْصُرْ مَنْ

Whoever I am his master, then this Ali is his master. O God, befriend whoever befriends him, antagonize whoever is hostile to him, and help whoever

نَصَرَهُ وَ اخْذُلْ مَنْ خَذَلَهُ

Help him and let down those who let him down

فَمَآ أمَنَ بِمَا اَنْزَلَ اللهُ فِيكَ عَلَى نَبِيِّهِ اِلَّا قَلِيْلْ

Only a few believed in what God revealed about you to His Prophet.

وَ لَا زَادَ اَكْثَرَهُمْ غَيْرَ تَخْسِيْرٍ

And most of them did not increase without loss.

وَ لَقَدْ أَنْزَلَ اللهُ تَعَالَى فِيْكَ مِنْ قَبْلُ وَ هُمْ كَارِهُوْنَ:

And God Almighty had already revealed concerning you before, even though they were unwilling:

يَآ آَيُّهَا الَّذِيْنَ أَمَنُوْا مَنْ يَرْتَدَ مِنْكُمْ عَنْ دِيْنِهِ فَسَوْفَ يَأْتِيِ اللهُ بِقَوْمِ يُحِبُهُمْ وَ

O you who have believed, whoever among you turns away from his religion - God will bring a people whom He loves and

يُحِبُوْنَهُ آَذِلَّةٍ عَلَى الْمُؤْمِنِيْنَ آَعِزَّةٍ عَلَى الْكَافِرِيْنَ يُجَاهِدُوْنَ فِي سَبِيْلِ اللهِ وَ لَا

They love it; it is humiliating toward the believers, it is harsh toward the disbelievers. They strive in the way of God, and they do not

يَخَافُوْنَ لَوْمَةَ لَائِمِ ذَلِكَ فَضْلُ اللهِ يُوْتِيْهِ مَنْ يَشَآءُ وَ اللهُ وَاسِعٌ عَلِيْمٌ إِنَّمَا وَلِيُكُمُ

They fear the blame of the blamer. This is the bounty of God. He gives it to whom He wills. And God is All-Encompassing, All-Knowing. Indeed, He is your Guardian.

اللهُ وَ رَسُوْلُهُ وَ الَّذِيْنَ أمَنُوا الَّذِيْنَ يُقِيْمُوْنَ الصَلَاةَ وَ يُؤْتُوْنَ الزَّكَاةَ وَ هُمْ رَاكِعُوْنَ

God and His Messenger and those who believe - those who establish prayer and pay zakat while they bow

وَ مَنْ يَتَوَلَّ اللهَ وَ رَسُوْلَهُ وَ الَّذِيْنَ امَنُوْا فَإِنَّ حِزْبَ اللهِ هُمُ الْغَالِبُوْنَ

And whoever turns to Allah and His Messenger and those who believe - then indeed, it is the Party of Allah that will be victorious.

رَبَّنَآ امَنَّا بِمَآ اَنْزَلْتَ وَ اتَّبَعْنَا الرَّسُوْلَ

Our Lord, we believe in what You revealed and we followed the Messenger.

فَاكْتُبْنَا مَعَ الشَّاهِدِيْنَ

So write with the witnesses

رَبَّنَا لَا تُزِغْ قُلَوْبَنَا بَعدَ اِذْ هَدَيْتَنَا

Our Lord, do not let our hearts deviate after You have guided us

وَ هَبْ لَنَا مِنْ لَدُنْكَ رَحْمَةً

And grant us mercy from You

إِنَّكَ اَنْتَ الْوَهَّابُ

You are the Giver

اَللَّهُمّ اِنَّا نَعْلَمُ اَنَّ هَذَا هُوَ الْحَقُّ مِنْ عِثْدِكَ

Oh God, we know that this is the truth from your covenant.

فَالْعَنْ مَنْ عَارَضَهُ وَ اسْتَكْبَرَ

So curse whoever opposes him and is arrogant.

وَ كَذَّبَ بِهِ وَ كَفَرَ

And he denied it and disbelieved

وَ سَيَغَلَمُ الَّذِيْنَ ظَلَمُوا آَيَّ مُنْقَلَبِ يَنْقَلِبُوْنَ.

And those who have wronged will be made to know which way they will turn.

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَآ اَمِيْرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ

Oh God, I ask you by the right of Muhammad, your Prophet

وَ سَيِّدَ الْوَصِيِّيْنَ

And the Master of Guardians

وَ اَوَّلَ الْعَابِدِيْنَ

And the first of the worshippers

وَ اَزْهَدَ الزَّاهِدِيْنَ

And he rejected the ascetics

وَ رَخمَةُ اللهِ وَ بَرَكَاتُهُ

And God's mercy and blessings

وَ صَلَوَاتُهُ وَ تَحِيَّاتُهُ

And his prayers and greetings

أَنْتَ مُطعِمُ الطَّعَامَ عَلَى حْبِّهِ مِسْكِيْنًا وَ يَتِيْمَا وَ اسِيْرًا

You feed food out of love for the poor, the orphan, and the captive.

لِوَجْهِ اللهِ لَا تُرِيْدُ مِنْهُمْ جَزَآءً وَ لَا شُكُوْرًا

For the sake of God, you do not want any reward or gratitude from them.

وَ فِيْكَ اَنْزَلَ اللهُ تَعَالَى:

And about you, God Almighty revealed:

وَ يُؤْثِرُوْنَ عَلَى اَنْفُسِهِمْ وَ لَوْ كَانَ بِهِمْ خَصَاصَةٌ وَ مَنْ يُوْقَ شُحَ نَفْسِهِ فَأُوْلْئِكَ هُمُ

And they give preference to themselves, even if they are poverty-stricken. And whoever is saved from his own miserliness, those are they.

الْمُفْلِحُوْنَ

The successful ones

وَ اَنْتَ الْكَاظِمُ لِلْغَيْظِ

And you are the suppressor of anger

وَ الْعَافِيْ عَنِ النَّاسِ

And he who pardons people

وَ اللهُ يُجِبُّ الْمُحسِنِيْنَ

And God rewards the doers of good

وَ آَنْتَ الصَابِرُ فِي البَأْسَاءِ وَ الضَرَّآءِ وَ حِيْنَ الْبَأْسِ

And you are patient in hardship, adversity, and times of distress.

وَ أَنْتَ الْقَاسِمُ بِالسَّوِيَّةِ

And you are the arbiter of equality

وَ الْعَادِلَ فِي الرَّعِيَّةِ

And he is just among the subjects

وَ الْعَالِمُ بِحْدُوْدِ اللهِ مِنْ جَمِيْعِ الْبَرِيَّةِ

And he knows the boundaries of God in all of humanity.

وَ اللهُ تَعَالَى اَخْبَرَ عَمَّا آَوْلَاكَ مِنْ فَضْلِهِ بِقَوْلِهِ:

And God Almighty has informed you of what He has given you of His bounty, saying:

اَفَمَنْ كَانَ مُؤْمِنًا كَمَنْ كَانَ فَاسِقًا؟ لَا يَسْتَوُوْنَ اَمَّا الَّذِيْنَ اَمَنُوْا وَ عَمِلُوْا الصَّالِحَاتِ

Is he who is a believer like he who is a sinner? They are not equal to those who believe and do righteous deeds.

فَلَهُمْ جَنَّاتُ الْمَأْوِى نُزُلًا بِمَا كَانُوا يَعْمَلُونَ

For them will be Gardens of refuge as a solace for what they used to do.

وَ اَنْتَ الْمَخْصُوْصُ بِعِلْمِ التَّنْزِيْلِ

And you are the one with the knowledge of revelation

وَ حُكْمِ التَأْوِيْلِ

And the rule of interpretation

وَ نَصِّ الرَّسُوْلِ

And the text of the Messenger

وَ لَكَ الْمَوَاقِفُ الْمَشْهُوْدَةُ

And you have well-known situations

وَ الْمَقَامَاتُ الْمَشْهُوْرَةُ

And the famous shrines

وَ الاَيَّامُ الْمَذْكُوْرَةُ

And the days mentioned

يَوْمَ بَدْرٍ وَ يَوْمَ الاَحْزَابِ:

The Day of Badr and the Day of Al-Ahzab:

اِذْ زَاغَتِ الْاَبْصَارُ وَ بَلَغَتِ الْقُلُوْبُ الْحَنَاجِرَ وَ تَظُنُوْنَ بِاللهِ الظِّنُوْنَا هُنَالِكَ ابْثُلِيَ

When the sights turned astray and the hearts reached the throats and you entertained false suspicions about God.

الْمُؤْمِنُوْنَ وَ زُلْزِلَوْا زِلْزَالَا شَدِيْدًا وَ اِذْ يَقُوْلَ الْمُنَافِقُوْنَ وَ الَذِيْنَ فِيْ قُلَوْبِهِمْ مَرَضٌ:

And they shook the believers with a severe earthquake, and when the hypocrites and those in whose hearts was a disease said:

مَا وَعَدَنَا اللهُ وَ رَسُوْلُهُ اِلَّا غُرُوْرًا. وَ اِذْ قَالَتْ طَائِفَةٌ مِنْهُمْ: يَآ اَهْلَ يَثْرِبَ لَا مُقَامَ

God and His Messenger promised us nothing but deception. And when a group of them said: O people of Yathrib, there is no place to stay.

لَكُمْ فَارْجِعُوْا وَ يَسْتَأْذِنُ فَرِيْقٌ مِنْهُمُ النَّبِيَّ يَقُوْلَوْنَ اِنَّ بُيُوْتَنَا عَوْرَةْ وَ مَا هِيَ بِعَوْرَةِ

So, return, and a group of them asks the Prophet for permission, saying, “Indeed, our houses are rough, but they are not rough.”

إِنْ يُرِيْدُوْنَ اِلَّا فِرَارًا

If they only want to escape

وَ قَالَ اللهُ تَعَالَى:

And God Almighty said:

وَ لَمَّا رَاَى الْمُؤْمِنُوْنَ الْاَحْزَابَ قَالُوْا: هَذَا مَا وَعَدَنَا اللهُ وَ رَسُوْلُهُ وَ صَدَقَ اللهُ وَ

And when the believers saw the parties, they said: This is what God and His Messenger promised us, and God has spoken the truth and

رَسُوْلُهُ وَ مَا زَادَهُمْ اِلَّا اِيْمَانًا وَ تَسْلِيْمًا

His Messenger, and he did not increase them except in faith and submission.

فَقَتَلْتَ عَمْرَهُمْ

So you killed their lives

وَ هَزَمْتَ جَمْعَهُمْ

And you defeated all of them

وَ رَدَّ اللهُ الَّذِيْنَ كَفَرُوْا بِغَيْظِهِمْ لَمْ يَنَالُوا خَيْرًا وَ كَفَى اللهُ الْمُؤْمِنِيْنَ الْقِتَالَ وَ كَانَ

And God turned away those who disbelieved out of their anger. They did not attain any good, and God sufficed the believers in fighting.

اللهُ قَوِيًّا عَزِيْزًا

God is strong and mighty

وَ يَوْمَ أَحْدٍ اِذْ يُضْعِدُوْنَ وَ لَا يَلْوُوْنَ عَلَى اَحَدٍ

And on the Day of Uhud, when they were defeated and did not blame anyone.

وَ الرَّسُوْلَ يَدْعُوْهُمْ فِي أَخْرَاهُمْ"

And the Messenger calls them at the end of their days.”

وَ أَنْتَ تَذُوْدُ بُهَمَ الْمُشْرِكِيْنَ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ

And you are defending them, the polytheists, from the Prophet.

ذَاتَ الْيَمِيْنِ وَ ذَاتَ الشَّمَالِ

The right and the left

حَثّى رَدَّهُمُ اللَهُ تَعَالَى عَنْكُمَا خَائِفِيْنَ

God Almighty turned them away from you in fear.

وَ نَصَرَ بِكَ الخَاذِلِيْنَ

And through you he gives victory to those who are defeated

وَ يَوْمَ حُتَيْنٍ عَلَى مَا نَطَقَ بِهِ التَنْزِيلُ:

And the Day of Huttin, according to what was revealed in the revelation:

إِذْ اَعْجَبَثْكُمْ كَثْرَثُكُمْ فَلَمْ ثُفْنِ عَنْكُمْ شَيْئًا وَ ضَاقَتْ عَلَيْكُمُ الْاَرْضُ بِمَا رَحْبَثْ ثُمَّ

When your multitude astonished you, but nothing was preserved from you, and the land became straitened for you in all its vastness. Then

وَلَّيْثُمْ مُذْبِرِيْنَ ثُمَّ اَنْزَلَ اللهُ سَكِيْنَتَهُ عَلَى رَسُوْلِهِ وَ عَلَى الْمُؤْمِنِيْنَ

And let them disperse. Then God sent down His tranquility upon His Messenger and upon the believers.

وَ الْمُؤْمِنُوْنَ اَنْتَ وَ مَنْ يَلِيْكَ

And the believers, you and those after you

وَ عَمُكَ الْعَبَاسُ يُنَادِي الْمُنْهَزِمِيْنَ:

And your uncle Abbas calls out to the defeated:

يَا اَضحَابَ سُوْرَةِ البَقَرَةِ

O companions of Surah Al-Baqarah

يَآ آَهْلَ بَيْعَةِ الشَّجَرَةِ

O people of the tree sale

حَتَّى اسْتَجَابَ لَهُ قَوْمٌ قَدْ كَفَيْتَهُمُ الْمَثُوْنَةَ

Until a people responded to him, for whom reward is sufficient.

وَ تَكَفَّلْتَ دُوْنَهُمُ الْمَعُوْنَةَ

And you provided for their assistance

فَعَادُوْا أَپسِيْنَ مِنَ الْمَثُوْبَةِ

So they came back crying from the reward.

رَاجِيْنَ وَعْدَ اللهِ تَعَالَى بِالتَّوْبَةِ

Hoping for God Almighty’s promise of repentance

وَ ذَلِكَ قَوْلُ اللهِ جَلَّ ذِكْرُهُ:

This is the saying of God Almighty:

ثُمَّ يَثُوْبُ اللهُ مِنْ بَعْدِ ذَلِكَ عَلَى مَنْ يَشَآءُ

Then after that, God will reward whomever He wills.

وَ أَنْتَ حَائِزٌ دَرَجَةَ الصَّبْرِ

And you have a degree of patience

فَائِزٌ بِعَظِيْمِ الْآَجِرِ

And to Him belongs gratitude for what He has given us.

وَ يَوْمَ خَيْبَرَ اِذْ اَظْهَرَ اللهُ خَوَرَ الْمُنَافِقِيْنَ

And on the Day of Khaybar, when God made evident the hostility of the hypocrites.

وَ قَطَعَ دَابِرَ الكَافِرِيْنَ

And He cut off the roots of the disbelievers

وَ الْحَمْدُ للهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ:

And praise be to God, Lord of the Worlds:

وَ لَقَدْ كَانُوْا عَاهَدُوْا اللهَ مِنْ قَبْلُ لَا يُوَلَّوْنَ الْاَدْبَارَ وَ كَانَ عَهْدُ اللهِ مَسْثُوْلًا

Indeed, they had covenanted with God before, that they would not turn their backs, and the covenant of God was subject to question.

مَوْلَايَ أَنْتَ الْحُجَةُ الْبَالِغَةُ

My lord, you are the decisive proof.

وَ الْمَحَجَةُ الْوَاضِحَةُ

And the clear argument

وَ النِّعْمَةُ السَّابِغَةَ

And the abundant blessing

وَ البُرْهَانُ المُنِيْرُ

And the enlightening proof

فَهَنِيْئًا لَكَ بِمَآ أتَاكَ اللهُ مِنْ فَضْل

Congratulations to you for what God has bestowed upon you.

وَ تَبَّا لِشَانِئِكَ ذِي الْجَهْلِ

And damn your ignorant business!

شَهِذْتَ مَعَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَ ألِهِ

You testified with the Prophet, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him and his family.

جَمِيْعَ حُرُوْبِهِ وَ مَغَازِيْهِ

All his wars and raids

تَخمِلَ الرَّايَةَ آَمَامَهُ

The flag fell before him

وَ تَضْرِبُ بِالسَّيْفِ قَدَّامَهُ

And you strike with the sword before him

ثُمَّ لِحَزْمِكَ الْمَشْهُوْرِ

Then for your famous assertiveness

وَ بَصِيْرَتِكَ فِي الْأُمُوْرِ

And your insight into matters

اَمَرَكَ فِي الْمَوَاطِنِ

Your command in the cities

وَ لَمْ يَكُنْ عَلَيْكَ اَمِيْرٌ

And there was no ruler over you

وَ كَمْ مِنْ آَمْرٍ صَدَّكَ عَنْ اِمْضَاءِ عَزْمِكَ فِيْهِ التُّقَى

And how many things have prevented you from fulfilling your resolve in piety?

وَ اتّبَعَ غَيْرُكَ فِيْ مِثْلِهِ الهَوْى

And follow someone else in the same way as you.

فَظَنَّ الْجَاهِلُوْنَ أَنَّكَ عَجَزْتَ عَمَّآ اِلَيْهِ انْتَهَى

So the ignorant people thought that you were incapable of what he concluded.

ضَلّ وَ اللهِ الظَآنُ لِذلِكَ وَ مَا اهْتَدْى

He went astray, and God is the One who sees it, for that reason, and he is not guided.

وَ لَقَدْ اَوْضَحْتَ مَا اَشْكَلَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ لِمَنْ تَوَهَمَ وَ امْتَرْى

And you have made clear what is more confusing than that for those who are deluded and doubted.

بِقَوْلِكَ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْكَ:

By saying, may God’s prayers and peace be upon you:

قَدْ يَرَى الْحُوَّلُ الْقُلَّبُ وَجْهَ الْحِيْلَةِ وَ دُوْنَهَا حَاجِزٌ مِنْ تَقْوَى اللهِ فَيَدَعُهَا رَأْيَ

A cross-eyed person may see the face of trickery, and without it, a barrier to fear of God, and abandon it out of his mind.

الْعَيْنِ وَ يَنْتَهِزُ فُرْصَتَهَا مَنْ لَا حَرِيْجَةَ [جَرِيْحَةَ] لَهُ فِي الدِّيْنِ،

The evil eye and its opportunity is taken advantage of by someone who has no qualms about religion.

صَدَقْتَ وَ خَسِرَ الْمُبْطِلُونَ

You spoke the truth and the false ones lost

وَ اِذْ مَاكَرَكَ النَّاكِثَانِ

And when the one who denounces you deceives

فقَالا: نُرِيْدُ الْعُمْرَةَ

They said: We want to perform Umrah

فَقُلْتَ لَهُمَا: "لَعَمْرُكُمَا مَا تُرِيْدَانِ العُمْرَةَ

So I said to them: “By your age, you do not want to perform Umrah.”

لكِنْ تُرِيْدَانِ الْغَذْرَةَ"

But you want filth.”

فَاخَذْتَ الْبَيْعَةَ عَلَيْهِمَا

So you took the pledge of allegiance from them

وَ جَدَّدْتَ الْمِيثَاقَ

And you renewed the covenant

فَجَدًّا فِي النَّفَاقِ

Very hypocritical

فَلَمَا نَبَّهْتَهُمَا عَلَى فِعِلِهِمَا اَغْفَلَا وَ عَادَا وَ مَا انْتَفَعَا

When I alerted them to their action, they neglected it and went back to it, and did not benefit from it.

وَ كَانَ عَاقِبَةُ اَمْرِهِمَا خُسْرًا

The outcome of their affair was loss.

ثُمَّ تَلَاهَمَا اَهْلُ الشَّامِ

Then the people of Syria followed them

فَسِرْتَ اِلَيْهِمْ بَعْدَ الْإِعْذَارِ

So I walked to them after being excused

وَ هُمْ لَا يَدِيْنُوْنَ دِيْنَ الْحَقُّ

And they do not follow the religion of truth.

وَ لَا يَتَدَبَّرُوْنَ الْقُرْاْنَ

And they do not contemplate the Qur’an

هَمَجٌ رَعَاعُ ضَآلَّوْنَ

Lost rabble savages

وَ بِالَّذِيْ أُنْزِلَ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ فِيْكَ كَافِرُوْنَ

And in what was revealed to Muhammad, there are disbelievers in you.

وَ لِاَهْلِ الْخِلَافِ عَلَيْكَ نَاصِرُوْنَ

And those who disagree with you will be helpers.

وَ قَدْ آَمَرَ اللهُ تَعَالَى بِاتَّبَاعِكَ

And God Almighty has commanded that I follow you

وَ نَدَبَ الْمُؤْمِنِيْنَ إِلى نَصْرِكَ

And call upon the believers to grant you victory.

وَ قَالَ عَزَّ وَ جَلَ:

And God Almighty said:

يَآ آَيُّهَا الَّذِيْنَ أمَنُوْا اتَّقُوا اللهَ وَ كُوْنُوا مَعَ الصَّادِقِيْنَ

O you who have believed, fear God and be with the truthful

مَؤْلَايَ بِكَ ظَهَرَ الْحَقُّ

My benevolence is with you, the truth has emerged

وَ قَدْ نَبَذَهُ الْخَلْقُ

The creation has rejected him

وَاَوْضَحْتَ السُنَنَ بَعدَ الدُّرُوْسِ وَ الطَمْسِ

The Sunnahs were made clear after the lessons and obliteration.

فَلَكَ سَابِقَةُ الْجِهَادِ عَلَى تَصْدِيْقِ التَّنْزِيْلِ

You have the precedent of striving to confirm the revelation.

وَ لَكَ فَضِيْلَةُ الْجِهَادِ عَلَى تَحْقِيْقِ التَّأْوِيْلِ

And you have the virtue of striving to achieve the interpretation.

وَ عَدُوُّكَ عَدُوُّ اللهِ جَاحِدٌ لِرَسُوْل اللهِ

Your enemy, the enemy of God, denies the Messenger of God.

يَدْعُوْ بَاطِلًا وَ يَحكُمُ جَائِرًا

He calls falsehood and judges unjustly

وَ يَتَامَّرُ غَاصِبَا وَ يَدْعُوْ حِزْبَهُ إِلَى النَّارِ

And he conspires as a usurper and calls his party to Hell.

وَ عَمَارْ يُجَاهِدُ وَ يُنَادِيْ بَيْنَ الصَّفَّيْنِ:

Ammar struggled and called out between the two ranks:

الرَّوَاحَ الرَّوَاحَ إِلى الجَنَّةِ

Spirits, spirits to heaven

وَ لَمَا اسْتَسْقَى فَسُقِيَ اللَّبَنُ كَبَرَ وَ قَالَ:

And when he drew water and was given milk, he said “Allahu Akbar” and said:

قَالَ لِي رَسُوْلُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَ اَلِهِ: "أخِرُ شَرَابِكَ مِنَ الدُّنْيَا ضَيَاحُ مِنْ لَبَنٍ، وَ

The Messenger of God, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him and his family, said to me: “Give up your drink from this world with a drop of milk, and

تَقْتُلْكَ الْفِئَةُ الْبَاغِيَةُ!

The oppressive group will kill you!

فَاعْتَرَضَهُ اَبُوْ الْعَادِيَةِ الْفَزَارِيّ فَقَتَلَهُ

Then Abu Al-Adiya Al-Fazari intercepted him and killed him.

فَعَلَى آَبِي الْعَادِيَةِ لَعَنَةُ اللهِ

May the curse of God be upon my father

وَ لَغْنَةُ مَلَائِكَتِهِ وَ رُسُلِهِ اَجْمَعِيْنَ

And the language of all His angels and messengers.

وَ عَلَى مَنْ سَلَّ سَيْفَهُ عَلَيْكَ

And against whoever draws his sword against you

وَ سَلَلْتَ سَيْفَكَ عَلَيْهِ

And you drew your sword against him

يَآ آَمِيْرَ الْمُؤْمِنِيْنَ

O Commander of the Faithful

مِنَ الْمُشْرِكِيْنَ وَ الْمُنَافِقِيْنَ إِلَى يَوْمِ الدِّيْنِ

From the polytheists and hypocrites until the Day of Judgment

وَ عَلَى مَنْ رَضِيَ بِمَا سَاءَكَ

And whoever is satisfied with what displeases you

وَ لَمْ يَكْرَهْهُ وَ اَغْمَضَ عَيْنَهُ وَ لَمْ يُثْكِزْ

And he did not hate it, and he closed his eyes and did not stare.

آَوْ آَعَانَ عَلَيْكَ بِيَدٍ اَوْ لِسَانٍ

Or he helped you with his hand or his tongue

اَوْ قَعَدَ عَنْ نَصْرِكَ

Or he abstains from your support

أَوْ خَذَلَ عَنِ الْجِهَادِ مَعَكَ

Or he abandons jihad with you

أَوْ غَمَطَ فَضْلَكَ

Or he overlooked your grace

وَ جَحَدَ حَقَّكَ

And he denied your right

آَوْ عَدَلَ بِكَ مَنْ جَعَلَكَ اللهُ اَوْلَى بِهِ مِنْ نَفْسِيهِ

Or treat you justly, whom God has made you more worthy of than his own soul.

وَ صَلَوَاتُ اللهِ عَلَيْكَ وَ رَحْمَةُ اللهِ وَ بَرَكَاتُهُ

May God’s prayers and God’s mercy and blessings be upon you

وَ سَلامُهُ وَ تَحِيَّاتُهُ

And his peace and greetings

وَ عَلَى الْاَئِمَةِ مِنْ أَلِكَ الطَّاهِرِيْنَ،

And upon the imams from among you who are pure,

اِنَّهُ حَمِيْدٌ مَجِيْدٌ

He is Praiseworthy and Glorious

وَ الْاَمْرُ الْاَعْجَبُ

And the most amazing thing

وَ الْخَطْبُ الْاَقْظَعُ بَعْدَ جَخْدِكَ حَقَّكَ

And the most disgusting speech after your sincerity is your truth.

غَضْبُ الصَّدِّيْقَةِ الطَاهِرَةِ الزَّهْرَاءِ سَيِّدَةِ النِّسَآءِ فَدَكًا

The wrath of the righteous and pure Zahra, the Lady of Women, Fadak

وَ رَدُّ شَهَادَتِكَ وَ شَهَادَةِ السَّيّدَيْنِ سُلَالَتِكَ

And I will restore your testimony and the testimony of your two masters.

وَ عِثْرَةِ الْمُضطَفِى صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْكُمْ

And the stumbling block of the Chosen One, may God bless you

وَ قَدْ اَعْلَى اللهُ تَعَالَى عَلَى الْأُمَّةِ دَرَجَتَكُمْ

God Almighty has exalted your status above the nation.

وَ رَفْعَ مَنْزِلتَكُمْ

And raise your status

وَ آَبَانَ فَضْلَكُمْ وَ شَرَّفَكُمْ عَلَى الْعَالَمِيْنَ

And He revealed your grace and honor over the worlds.

فَاَذْهَبَ عَنْكُمُ الرِّجْسَ وَ طَهَرَكُمْ تَظهِيْرًا

Then he removed the uncleanness from you and purified you thoroughly.

قَالَ اللهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلْ:

God Almighty said:

إِنَّ الْإِنْسَانَ خُلِقَ هَلُوْعًا اِذَا مَسَّهُ الشَّرُّ جَزُوْعًا وَ إِذَا مَسَّهُ الْخَيْرُ مَنُوْعًا اِلَّا الْمُصَلَّيْنَ

Indeed, man was created to be terrified when evil touches him, frightened, and anxious when good touches him, except for those who pray.

فَاسْتَثْنَى اللهُ تَعَالَى نَبِيَّهُ الْمُضْطَفَى

So God Almighty made an exception for His chosen Prophet.

وَ أَنْتَ يَا سَيِّدَ الْاَوْصِيَاءِ مِنْ جَمِيْعِ الْخَلْقِ

And you, O Master of the guardians of all creation,

فَمَا اَعْمَةَ مَنْ ظَلَمَكَ عَنِ الْحَقَّ،

How blind is the one who wronged you from the truth?

ثُمَّ اَفْرَضُوْكَ سَهِمَ ذَوِي الْقُرْبِى مَكْرًا

Then they imposed on you the shares of relatives deceitfully.

وَ اَحَادُوْهُ عَنْ اَهْلِهِ جَوْرًا

And they estranged him from his family unjustly.

فَلَمَّا الَ الْأَمْرُ اِلَيْكَ اَجْرَيْتَهُمْ عَلَى مَا آَجْرَيَا

Then when the matter was yours, you repaid them as they repaid.

رَغْبَةً عَنْهُمَا بِمَا عِنْدَ اللهِ لَكَ

Desiring for them what God has for you

فَاشْبَهَتْ مِحْتَثُكَ بِهِمَا مِحَنَ الْأَنْبِيَاءِ عَلَيْهِمُ السَّلَامُ

So you likened your discussion of them to the tribulations of the prophets, peace be upon them.

عِنْدَ الْوَحْدَةِ وَ عَدَمِ الْاَنْصَارِ

In loneliness and lack of support

وَ اَشبَهْتَ فِي الْبَيَاتِ عَلَى الْفِرَاشِ الذَّبِيْحِ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ

And you resembled the one who was sacrificed, peace be upon him, during the nights on the bed.

اِذَا اَجَبْتَ كَمَا اَجَابَ

If you answered as he answered

وَ اَطَعتَ كَمَا اَطَاعَ اِسْمَاعِيْلُ صَابِرًا مُختَسِبًا

And you obeyed as Ishmael obeyed, patient and seeking reward.

اِذْ قَالَ لَهُ يَا بُنَيَّ إِنَّيَ آَرْى فِي الْمَنَامِ أَنَّي آَذْبَحُكَ

When he said to him, “O my son, I see in a dream that I will slaughter you.”

فَانْظُرْ مَا ذَا تَزْى

So look what you see

قَالَ: يَآ آَبَتِ افْعَلْ مَا تُؤْمَرُ

He said: O father, do as you are commanded.

سَتَجِدُنِيْ اِنْ شَآءَ اللهُ مِنَ الصَابِرِيْنَ

You will find me, God willing, among the patient ones.

وَ كَذْلِكَ أَنْتَ لَمَا آَبَاتَكَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَ ألِهِ

And likewise you when the Prophet, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him and his family, disobeyed you.

وَ اَمَرَكَ آَنْ تَضْجِعَ فِيْ مَرْقَدِهِ

And he commanded you to lie in his sleeping place.

وَاقِيَا لَهُ بِنَفْسِكَ

Protect him yourself

اَسْرَعْتَ اِلَى اِجَابَتِهِ مُطِيْعًا

You quickly answered him obediently.

وَ لِنَفْسِكَ عَلَى الْقَثْلِ مُوَطَّنًا،

And for yourself, for example, a home.

فَشَكَرَ اللهُ تَعَالْى طَاعَتَكَ

Thank God Almighty for your obedience

وَ آَبَانَ عَنْ جَمِيْلِ فِعْلِكَ بِقَوْلِهِ جَلَّ ذِكْرُهُ:

And He expressed the beauty of your deed by His Majesty’s saying:

وَ مِنَ النَّاسِ مَنْ يَشْرِيْ نَفْسَهُ ابْتِغَاءَ مَرْضَاتِ اللَهِ

And among the people is he who sells himself seeking God’s pleasure.

ثُمَّ مِخْتَثُكَ يَوْمَ صِفَّيْنَ

Then your meeting on the day of Siffin

وَ قَدْ رُفِعَتِ الْمَصَاحِفُ جِيْلَةً وَ مَكْرًا

The scriptures were raised out of fear and deceit.

فَاَعْرَضَ الشَّكَ

So reject doubt

وَ عُزِفَ الْحَقُّ

And the truth was played

وَ اتَّبِعَ الظِّنُّ

And follow suspicion

اَشبَهَتْ مِخْنَةَ هَارُوْنَ اِذْ اَمَّرَهُ مُؤْسُى عَلَى قَوْمِهِ فَتَفَرَّقُوا عَنْهُ

It was like the plight of Aaron, when Moses commanded him against his people, but they dispersed from him.

وَ هَارُوْنُ يُنَادِيْ بِهِمْ وَ يَقُوْلَ:

And Aaron called them and said:

يَا قَوْمِ اِنَّمَا فُتِنْثُمْ بِهِ وَ إِنَّ رَبَّكُمُ الرَّحْمْنُ

O my people, you have only been tempted by it, and indeed your Lord is the Most Merciful.

فَاتَّبِعُوْنِيْ وَ اَطِيْعُوْا آَمْرِيْ

So follow me and obey my command

قَالَوْا: لَنْ نَبْرَحَ عَلَيْهِ عَاكِفِيْنَ حَتّى يَرْجِعَ اِلَيْنَا مُؤْسُى

They said: We will not continue devoting ourselves to him until Musa returns to us.

وَ كَذْلِكَ أَنْتَ لَمَّا رُفِعَتِ الْمَصَاحِفُ قُلْتَ:

And likewise, when the Qur’an was raised, you said:

يَا قَوْمِ إِنَّمَا فُتِئْثُمْ بِهَا وَ خَدِعْتُمْ

O my people, you were only deceived by it and were deceived.

فَعَصَوْكَ وَ خَالَفُوا عَلَيْكَ

So they disobeyed you and disagreed with you

وَ اسْتَدْعَوْا نَصْبَ الْحَكَمَيْنِ

And they called for the installation of the two rulers

فَآَبَيْتَ عَلَيْهِمْ وَ تَبَرَّأْتَ إِلَى اللهِ مِنْ فِعْلِهِمْ وَ فَوَضْتَهُ اِلَيْهِمْ

So you refused and disavowed their action before God and entrusted it to them.

فَلَمَّا اَسْفَرَ الْحَقُّ

When the truth revealed

وَ سَفِهَ المُنْكَرُ

And his reprehensible foolishness

وَ اعْتَرَفَوْا بِالزَّلَلِ وَ الْجَوْرِ عَنِ الْقَصدِ

And they acknowledged the fallacy and injustice intentionally.

اخْتَلَفُوا مِنْ بَعْدِهِ

They differed after him

وَ اَلْزَمُوْكَ عَلَى سَفَهِ التَحكِيمَ الَّذِيْ آَبِيْتَهُ وَ آَحَبُوْهُ

And they condemned the foolishness of arbitration, which you rejected and they loved.

وَحَظَرْتَهُ وَ آَبَاحُوْا ذَنْبَهُمُ الّذِي اقْتَرَفُوْهُ،

And I prohibited it, and they permitted their sin that they had committed.

وَ أَنْتَ عَلَى نَهْجٍ بَصِيْرَةٍ وَ هُدى

And you are on the path of insight and guidance.

وَ هُمْ عَلَى سُنَنِ ضَلَالَةٍ وَ عَمَى

They are on the path of error and blindness

فَمَا زَالَوْا عَلَى النَّفَاقِ مُصِرِّيْنَ

They still persist in hypocrisy

وَ فِي الفَيِّ مُتَرَدِّدِيْنَ

And there are two thousand who are hesitant

حَثّى اَذَاقَهُمُ اللهُ وَبَالَ آَمْرِهِمْ

Until God tasted them and took care of their affairs

فَامَاتَ بِسَيْفِكَ مَنْ عَانَدَكَ فَشَقِيَ وَ هَوْى

So he killed by your sword whoever rebelled against you and became wretched and fell in love.

وَاَخِيَا بِحْجَتِكَ مَنْ سَعِدَ فَهْدِيَ

And I swear by your proof, whoever is pleased and guided

صَلَوَاتُ اللهِ عَلَيْكَ غَادِيَةً وَ رَائِحَةً

May the blessings of God be upon you every day and every day

وَ عَاكِفَةً وَ ذَاهِبَةً

And she was going and going

فَمَا يُحِيْطُ الْمَادِحُ وَضفَكَ

What surrounds the one who praises you and surrounds you?

وَ لَا يُخِيِطُ الطَّاعِنُ فَضْلِكَ

And the stabber does not sew, please

آَنْتَ آَحسَنُ الْخَلْقِ عِبَادَةً

You are the best of people in worship

وَاَخْلَصُهُمْ زَهَادَةً

And make them sincere with renunciation

وَ اَذَبُّهُمْ عَنِ الدِّيْنِ

And turn them away from religion

اَقَمْتَ حُدُوْدَ اللهِ بِجْهْدِكَ [بِجَهْدِكَ]

You have established the limits of God by your effort [by your effort].

وَ فَلَلْتَ عَسَاكِرَ الْمَارِقِيْنَ بِسَيْفِكَ

And you defeated the armies of the renegades with your sword.

تُخْمِدُ لَهَبَ الْحُرُوْبِ بِبَنَانِكَ

You extinguish the flames of wars with your buildings

وَ تَهْتِك سُتُوْرَ الشُّبَهِ بِبَيَانِكَ

And you tear away the veil of similarity with your statement.

وَ تَكْشِفُ لَبْسَ الْبَاطِلِ عَنْ صَرِيْحِ الْحَقَّ

And reveals the veil of falsehood from the blatant truth.

لَا تَأْخُذُكَ فِي اللهِ لَوْمَةُ لَائِمِ

Do not let the blame of a blamer take you for God’s sake.

وَ فِيْ مَدْحِ اللهِ تَعَالَى لَكَ غِنَّى

And you are rich in praise of God Almighty

عَنْ مَدْحِ الْمَادِحِيْنَ وَ تَقْرِيظِ الْوَاصِفِيْنَ،

About praising those who praise and appreciating those who describe,

قَالَ اللهُ تَعَالَى:

God Almighty said:

مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنِيْنَ رِجَالٌ صَدَقُوا مَا عَاهَدُوْا اللّٰهَ عَلَيْهِ فَمِنْهُمْ مَنْ قَضى نَخْبَهُ وَ مِنْهُمْ

Among the believers are men who are true to what they covenanted with God, and among them are those who fulfill their promise, and among them

مَنْ يَنْتَظِرُ وَ مَا بَدَّلُوا تَبْدِيْلًا

Who is waiting and they have not changed anything?

وَ لَمَا رَآيْتَ آَنْ قَتَلْتَ النَّاكِثِيْنَ وَ الْقَاسِطِيْنَ وَ الْمَارِقِيْنَ

And when I saw that you had killed the transgressors, the unjust, and the renegades,

وَ صَدَقَكَ رَسُوْلُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَ اَلِهِ وَعَدَهُ

And the Messenger of God, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him and the family of his promise, told the truth.

فَاَوْفَيْتَ بِعَهْدِهِ قُلْتَ

So you fulfilled his covenant, you said

آَمَا أَنَ اَنْ تُخْضَبَ هَذِهِ؟

How about dyeing this?

مِنْ هَذِهِ آَمْ مَثَى يُبْعَثُ اَشْقَاهَا؟

From these, how many times will He send the most wretched of them?

وَاثِقًا بِاَنَّكَ عَلَى بَيِّنَةٍ مِنْ رَبِّكَ

Confident that you have clear proof from your Lord

وَ بَصِيْرَةٍ مِنْ آَمْرِكَ

And insight into your command

قَادِمٌ عَلَى اللهِ

Coming to God

مُسْتَبْشِرٌ بِبَيْعِكَ الَّذِيْ بَايَعْتَهُ بِهِ

Rejoicing in the sale you made to him

وَ ذَلِكَ هُوَ الْفَوْزُ الْعَظِيْمُ

And that is the great victory

اَللَّهُمَّ الْعَنْ قَتَلَةً انْبِيآئِكَ وَ اوْصياءِ انْبِيائِكَ

Oh God, curse the killers of your prophets and the guardians of your prophets

بِجَمِيعِ لَعَنَاتِكَ،

With all your curses,

وَ اَضلِهِمْ حَرَّ نَارِكَ

And mislead them with the heat of your fire

وَ الْعَنْ مَنْ غَصَبَ وَلِيَّكَ حَقَّهُ

And curse the one who usurped his right from your guardian.

وَ أَنْكَرَ عَهْدَهُ

And he denied his covenant

وَ جَحَدَهُ بَعْدَ الْيَقِيْنِ وَ الْإِقْرَارِ بِالْوِلَايَةِ لَهُ

And he denied it after certainty and acknowledgment of his guardianship.

يَوْمَ اَكْمَلْتَ لَهُ الدِّيْنَ

The Day You have perfected his religion

اَللَّهُمَّ الْعَنْ قَتَلَةَ آَمِيْرِ الْمُؤْمِنِيْنَ

Oh God, curse the killers of the Commander of the Faithful

وَ مَنْ ظَلَمَهُ وَ اَشْيَاعَهُمْ وَ اَنْصَارَهُمْ

And those who oppress him and their followers and supporters

اَللَّهُمَّ الْعَنْ ظَالِمِي الْحُسَيْنِ وَ قَاتِلِيْهِ

Oh God, curse the oppressors of Hussein and his killers

وَ الْمُتَابِعِيْنَ عَدُوَّهُ وَ نَاصِرِيْهِ

And those who follow him are his enemies and supporters.

وَ الرَّاضِيْنَ بِقَثْلِهِ وَ خَاذِلِيْهِ لَعْنَا وَبِيْلًا

And those who are satisfied with its burden and abandon it are cursed and a calamity.

اَللَّهُمَّ الْعَنْ اَوَلَ ظَالِمِ ظَلَمَ الَّ مُحَمَّدٍ

Oh God, curse the first oppressor who wronged the Prophet Muhammad

وَ مَانِعِيْهِمُ حُقُوْقَهُمْ

And those who deny them their rights

اَللَّهُمَّ خَصَّ اَوَّلَ ظَالِمِ وَ غَاصِبٍ لالِ مُحَمَّدِ بِاللَّعْنِ

Oh God, curse the first oppressor and usurper of the family of Muhammad.

وَ كُلِّ مُسْتَنِّ بِمَا سَنَّ اِلَى يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ

And everyone will follow his example until the Day of Resurrection.

اَللَّهُمَّ صَلَّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ [وَ أل مُحَمَّدِ] خَاتَمِ النَّبِيِّيْنَ

O God, bless Muhammad [and his family], the Seal of the Prophets

وَ عَلَى عَلِيَّ سَيِّدِ الْوَصِيِّيْنَ وَ الِهِ الطَاهِرِيْنَ

And upon Ali, the Lord of the guardians and the God of the pure.

وَ اجْعَلْنَا بِهِمْ مُتَمَسَّكِيْنَ

And make us cling to them

وَ بِوِلَايَتِهِمْ مِنَ الْفَائِزِيْنَ الْأَمِنِيْنَ

And with their mandate, they are among the safe winners.

الَّذِيْنَ لَا خَوْفٌ عَلَيْهِمْ وَ لَا هُمْ يَخْزَنُونَ.

Those on whom there is no fear and who are not disgraced.

Instructions

In my book of Hadiyyat al-Za'ir, I have mentioned the chain of

Instructions

authority of this form of ziyarah and I have also said that this

Instructions

form can be said at all times, from nearness or from remote

Instructions

places. In other words, this form of ziyarah is in fact not

Instructions

dedicated to a certain occasion or place. This is therefore a

Instructions

good opportunity for the worshippers who long for visiting

Instructions

the tomb of Imam 'Ali, the head of the Imams ('a), to say this

Instructions

form of ziyarah.

Instructions

ZIYARAH ON THE DAY OF GHADEER

Instructions

Second: Though authoritative chains of authority, It is

Instructions

narrated that lmam 'Ali ibn Muhammad alHadi ('a) said the

Instructions

following form of ziyarah at the holy tomb of Imam 'Ali Amir

Instructions

alMu'minin ('a) on the Ghadir day when he was summoned

Instructions

by the 'Abbasid ruler, alMu'tasim, to be present before him in

Instructions

With the intention of visiting the holy tomb of Imam 'Ali ('a),

Instructions

you may stop at the gate of the dome of the holy shrine and

Instructions

seek permission of entrance. However, Shaykh alMufid says

Instructions

that you may wash yourself, put on the cleanest of your

Instructions

clothes, and say the following form of seeking permission,

Instructions

which, beginning with the following statement, has been

Instructions

cited in the previous section of this book:

Instructions

O Allah, l am standing at one of the doors of Your Prophet's

Instructions

Houses- may Your blessings be upon him and his

Instructions

You may then enter there with your right foot and walk until

Instructions

you stop at the holy tomb, which you may face and make the

Instructions

kiblah direction to be between your shoulders. There, you

Instructions

may say the following words:

Instructions

Peace be upon Muhammad the Messenger of Allah, the seal

Instructions

of the Prophets, the chief of the Messengers, and the choice

Instructions

of the Lord of the worlds, whom Allah has entrusted with His

Instructions

Revelations and with His determined commandments, who

Instructions

sealed the previous Messages, paved the way to the coming

Instructions

blessings, and Who prevails over all that. May the mercy,

Instructions

blessings, peace, benedictions, and greetings of Allah be

Instructions

upon him, too. Peace be upon the Prophets and Messengers

Instructions

of Allah, and upon His favorite angels and righteous saints.

Instructions

Peace be upon you, O Commander of the Faithful, the chief

Instructions

of the Prophets' successors, the heir of the Prophets'

Instructions

knowledge, the friend of the Lord of the worlds, and my

Instructions

master as well as the master of all of the believers. May

Instructions

Allah's mercy and blessings be upon you,too. Peace be upon

Instructions

you, O my master, O Commander of the Faithful, the trustee

Instructions

of Allah on His lands, the envoy of Him amongst His

Instructions

creatures, and His conclusive argument against His

Instructions

servants. Peace be upon you, O true religion of Allah and the

Instructions

straight path of Him. Peace be upon you, O the Great News

Instructions

about whom they differ and they shall be asked. Peace be

Instructions

upon you, O Commander of the Faithful. You believed in Allah

Instructions

while they were polytheists, accepted the truth while they

Instructions

belied it, strove for the sake of Allah while they refrained, and

Instructions

worshipped Allah with full sincerity to Him in obedience

Instructions

while you were steadfast, depending upon Him totally, until

Instructions

death came upon you. Verily, curse of Allah be upon the

Instructions

wrongdoers. Peace be upon you, O chief of the Muslims,

Instructions

head of the believers, guide of the pious ones, and leader of

Instructions

the white-forehead ones. Allah's mercy and blessings be

Instructions

I bear witness that you are indeed the brother of Allah's

Instructions

Messenger, the successor of him, the heir of his knowledge,

Instructions

his trustee on his laws, his representative in his nation, and

Instructions

the first to believe in Allah and to accept as true all that

Instructions

which was revealed to Allah's Prophet. I also bear witness

Instructions

that he (i.e. the Prophet) conveyed all that which Allah

Instructions

revealed to him concerning you; so, he expounded openly

Instructions

what he was commanded (to expound), declared to his

Instructions

nation the duty of obedience and loyalty to you, ordered them

Instructions

to swear allegiance to you, and declared you as enjoying

Instructions

more priority on the believers than that which they enjoy on

Instructions

themselves in the same was as Allah has made him enjoy

Instructions

the same. He then asked Allah the All-exalted to be the

Instructions

witness on them (in this respect), saying, "Have I conveyed?"

Instructions

They answered, "Yes, you have. We swear to it by Allah." He

Instructions

thus said, "O Allah, be the witness and You are sufficient

Instructions

Witness and Judge between the servants (of Yours)." Hence,

Instructions

curse •of Allah be upon him who denied the allegiance to you

Instructions

after he had confessed of it and upon him who breached his

Instructions

pledge to you after he had taken it. I also bear witness that

Instructions

you have indeed observed your pledge to Almighty Allah and

Instructions

that Almighty Allah, in return, shall observe His pledge to you.

Instructions

"Therefore, whoever fulfills what he has covenanted with

Instructions

Allah, He will grant him a mighty reward." I also bear witness

Instructions

that you are truly the commander of the faithful, the Divine

Instructions

Revelation did declare your commissioned leadership, and

Instructions

the Messenger made a covenant with the people (that they

Instructions

would be under your leadership). I also bear witness that you,

Instructions

along with your uncle and brother, traded with Allah in your

Instructions

souls; He therefore revealed about you this: "Surely, Allah has

Instructions

bought of the believers their persons and their property for

Instructions

this, that they shall have Paradise, they fight in Allah's way, so

Instructions

they slay and are slain; a promise which is binding on Him in

Instructions

the Torah and the Bible and the Qur'an; and who is more

Instructions

faithful to his covenant than Allah? Rejoice therefore in the

Instructions

pledge which you have made; and that is the mighty

Instructions

achievement. They who turn to Allah, who serve Him, who

Instructions

praise Him, who fast, who bow down, who prostrate

Instructions

themselves, who enjoin what is good and forbid what is evil,

Instructions

and who keep the limits of Allah; and give good news to the

Instructions

believers."

Instructions

O Commander of the Faithful, I bear witness that whoever

Instructions

doubts about you has never believed in the Trusted

Instructions

Messenger, and whoever leaves you to choose another (as

Instructions

his leader) has indeed diverted the true religion, that the Lord

Instructions

of the worlds has chosen for us, and that He completed it on

Instructions

the Ghadir Day through (declaring) the Divinely

Instructions

commissioned leadership of you. And I bear witness that you

Instructions

are the one intended in the following saying of the Almighty,

Instructions

All-merciful Lord: "And this is My path, the right one;

Instructions

therefore, follow it, and follow not other ways, for they will

Instructions

lead you away from His way." I swear by Allah that whoever

Instructions

follows any one other than you has in fact strayed off the

Instructions

right way and misled others (i.e. those who imitate him), and

Instructions

that whoever incurs the hostility of you has undoubtedly

Instructions

rejected the right. O Allah, we have listened to Your

Instructions

command obeyed, and followed Your straight path; therefore,

Instructions

(please do) guide us, O our Lord! And do not cause our

Instructions

hearts to deviate after You have guided us to the obedience

Instructions

to You, and include us with those who always thank You for

Instructions

Your bounties. And I also bear witness that you have always

Instructions

been at variance with whimsical desires as you have always

Instructions

been in line with piety, you have always been capable of

Instructions

suppressing your rage, you have always forgiven and

Instructions

pardoned people, and when Allah is disobeyed, you have

Instructions

always been furious, and when He is obeyed, you have

Instructions

always been pleased, and you have always carried out what

Instructions

Allah has commissioned you to do, you have always

Instructions

observed what has been entrusted with you, you have always

Instructions

kept what has been confided to you, you have always

Instructions

conveyed what you were ordered to convey, and you have

Instructions

always expected that which you were promised. And I bear

Instructions

witness that as you sometimes conceded some things, you

Instructions

did not do that on account of humiliation, and as you

Instructions

sometimes did not demand with your right, you did not do

Instructions

that on account of fear, and as you sometimes stopped

Instructions

combating those who usurped your right, you did not do so

Instructions

on account of weakness, and as you (on a certain occasion)

Instructions

showed contentment to things to which Allah is not pleased,

Instructions

you did not do so on account of tlattery, and you have never

Instructions

been weakened by what befell you for the sake of Allah, and

Instructions

you have never been feeble and you have never abased

Instructions

yourself as regards demanding with your rights on account

Instructions

I seek Allah's refuge against such claims, rather, when you

Instructions

were wronged, you relied upon your Lord in these questions

Instructions

and entrusted your affair to Him, and as you reminded them

Instructions

(of their allegiance to you), they did not regard it, and as you

Instructions

preached them, they did not accept from you, and as you

Instructions

instructed them to fear Allah, they did not mind. I also bear

Instructions

witness, O Commander of the Faithful, that you strove in the

Instructions

way of Allah in the most appropriate way until Allah

Instructions

summoned you to be in His vicinity, chose to grasp you, and

Instructions

established the argument against your enemies who killed

Instructions

you, so that you should have argument against them,

Instructions

although you enjoy conclusive arguments against all of His

Instructions

creatures. Peace be upon you, O Commander of the Faithful.

Instructions

You have worshipped Allah sincerely, striven in the way of

Instructions

Allah steadfastly, sacrificed yourself, seeking Allah's

Instructions

Judgement, acted upon His Book, followed His Prophet's

Instructions

instructions, performed the prayers, paid the zakât, enjoined

Instructions

what is right, and forbidden what is wrong as much as you

Instructions

could, seeking what is possessed by Allah and desiring for

Instructions

that which Allah has promised. You have never cared for

Instructions

misfortunes, never yielded to the hardships, and never

Instructions

stopped fighting against any warrior on account of fear.

Instructions

Indeed, whoever claims anything opposite to this to you is

Instructions

actually fabricating and is forging lies to you, and whoever

Instructions

leaves your path is drawing himself near to destruction. You

Instructions

have certainly striven in the way of Allah as exactly as

Instructions

required, stood harm for the sake of Allah, have been the

Instructions

foremost to believe in Allah, the first to offer prayer and to

Instructions

strive, and the first to expose himself in the land of the

Instructions

polytheists, while the lands were suffocated with deviation,

Instructions

Satan was worshipped openly, and (in the midst of this) you

Instructions

said, "The big number of people that surround me shall never

Instructions

increase my might, nor shall their departing me make me feel

Instructions

lonely. I thus shall never submit even if all peoples desert

Instructions

me." Because you resorted to Allah, you were the mightiest,

Instructions

and because you preferred the Next World to this worldly life,

Instructions

you have been ascetic. Thus, Allah supported, guided, chose,

Instructions

and selected you. Your deeds were never contradictory, your

Instructions

words were never paradoxical, your situations were never

Instructions

fickle, you have never claimed falsely or forged lies against

Instructions

Allah, you have never been greedy for the wreckage of this

Instructions

world, you have never been defiled by sins, you have always

Instructions

had manifest proof from your Lord, and you have always

Instructions

been certain of what you do, as you used to guide to the right

Instructions

and to a straight path.

Instructions

I bear true witness and I truly swear by Allah that

Instructions

Muhammad and his Household-may Allah's blessings be

Instructions

upon them-are the masters of all creatures and you are

Instructions

indeed my master and the master of all believers, the servant

Instructions

and friend of Allah, the brother, successor, and heir of the

Instructions

Messenger, who used to say to you, "I swear this by Him Who

Instructions

sent me with the truth: whoever denies you has never

Instructions

believed in me, whoever rejects you has never confessed of

Instructions

Allah's existence, whoever abandons you has actually

Instructions

strayed off, and whoever is not guided be you has never

Instructions

found the way to Allah or to me. Confirming this, my Lord the

Instructions

the Almighty and All-majestic says, 'Most surely, l am most

Instructions

Forgiving to him who repents and believes and does good,

Instructions

then follows the right path.' To follow the right path is to

Instructions

adhere to your Divinely commissioned leadership." O master,

Instructions

your favor cannot be concealed and your light cannot be

Instructions

extinguished. Verily, he who rejects you shall be the most

Instructions

misfortunate wrongdoer. O master, you are the (Divine) claim

Instructions

against the servants, the guiding to uprightness, and our

Instructions

means on the Promised Day. O master, Allah has indeed

Instructions

elevated your standing in this world, raised your rank in the

Instructions

Hereafter, and led you to that which has not been seen by

Instructions

those who antagonized you, those who stood between you

Instructions

and Allah's gifts to you. So, curse of Allah be upon those who

Instructions

violated your sanctity and those who prevented you from

Instructions

taking your right. I do bear witness that these are the biggest

Instructions

losers whose faces shall be scorched by Hellfire and they

Instructions

therein shall be in severe affliction. And I bear witness that

Instructions

whenever you did something or you avoided doing

Instructions

something, and whenever you said something or you kept

Instructions

silent, all these were by the order of Allah and His

Instructions

Messenger. You thus said, "I swear this by Him Who grasps

Instructions

my soul: when the Messenger of Allah-peace of Allah be

Instructions

upon him and his Household— watched me striking (the

enemies) with my sword ceaselessly, he said to me, ،O 'Ali, enemies) with my sword ceaselessly, he said to me, O 'Ali,

Instructions

your position to me is the same as (Prophet) Aaron's position

Instructions

to (Prophet) Moses; yet, there shall be no prophet after me.

Instructions

I would like to further inform you that your death and your

Instructions

lifestyle shall be with me and according to my instruction.'

Instructions

(Imam 'Ali continued,) I swear by Allah that I have not told

Instructions

untruth and none shall belie me, and I have never strayed off

Instructions

and none shall ever mislead me, and l have never forgotten

Instructions

my Lord's instructions to me, and l do follow the true path of

Instructions

my Lord that He showed His Prophet and the Prophet

Instructions

showed me, and, most certainly, I am following the lucid path

Instructions

step by step." By Allah I swear, true are your words and you

Instructions

have said nothing but the truth. Curse of Allah be upon those

Instructions

who compare you to your enemies, while Allah, Whose Name

Instructions

be elevated, says, "Are those who know and those who do

Instructions

not know alike?" So, the curse of Allah be upon those who

Instructions

compared you to those whom Allah has ordered to follow

Instructions

your leadership, while you are the friend of Allah, the brother

Instructions

of His Messenger, the defender of His religion, and the one

Instructions

whose preference (to all others) has been declared by the

Instructions

Qur'an; hence, Almighty Allah says,

Instructions

"And Allah shall grant to

Instructions

the strivers above the holders back a mighty reward. (High)

Instructions

degrees from Him, protection, and mercy. And Allah is

Instructions

Forgiving, Merciful." Almighty Allah has also said, "Do you

Instructions

make one who undertakes the giving of drink to the pilgrims

Instructions

and the guarding of the Sacred Mosque to be like him who

Instructions

believes in Allah and the latter day and strives hard in Allah's

Instructions

way? They are not equal with Allah, and Allah does not guide

Instructions

the unjust people. Those who believed, fled their homes, and

Instructions

strove hard in Allah's way with their property and their souls

Instructions

are much higher in rank with Allah; and those are they who

Instructions

are the achievers of their objects. Their Lord gives them

Instructions

good news of mercy from Himself and His good pleasure

Instructions

and gardens, wherein lasting blessings shall be theirs;

Instructions

abiding therein for ever.

Instructions

Surely, Allah has a mighty reward with Him." I bear witness

Instructions

that Allah's words of praise mean you exclusively and you are

Instructions

the most sincere in the obedience to Allah as you have never

Instructions

accepted any alternative for the right guidance and you have

Instructions

never associated anyone in your worshipping your Lord. And

Instructions

Almighty Allah has responded the prayer of His Prophet-

Instructions

peace of Allah be upon him and his Household-concerning

Instructions

you. He then ordered him to proclaim the position of

Instructions

succeeding him in (the leadership of) his nation, as a sign of

Instructions

showing your elevated position, declaration of the evidence

Instructions

on your leadership, refutation of the false claims, and

Instructions

repudiation of all excuses. But when he (i.e. the Prophet)

Instructions

worried about the sedition that would be aroused by the

Instructions

transgressing group due to such declaration and he did not

Instructions

want you to be faced by the hypocrites, the Lord of the

Instructions

worlds revealed to him, saying, "O Messenger! Proclaim the

Instructions

message which has been sent to you from your Lord. If you

Instructions

did it not, you would not have fulfilled and proclaimed His

Instructions

mission. And Allah will defend you from men (who mean

Instructions

mischief)." Accordingly, he (i.e. the Prophet) burdened

Instructions

himself with the loads of (long) walking and stood up under

Instructions

the burning sun in the midst of the desert, where he delivered

Instructions

a speech, made everyone listen to him, and called upon them

Instructions

with rhetorical language. He then asked them all, "Have l

Instructions

conveyed (the message)?" "Yes, you have. We swear it by

Instructions

Allah," they answered. "O Allah, be the witness!" the Prophet

Instructions

said. He then added, "Do I not enjoy more priority to the

Instructions

selves of the believers than that which they enjoy on

Instructions

themselves?" "Yes, you do," answered they. Hen then took

Instructions

you from the hand and said,

Instructions

"This 'Ali is now the master of

Instructions

every one who has betaken me as his master. O Allah,

Instructions

(please do) support those who support 1Ali, be the enemy of

Instructions

those who incur the hostility of 'Ali, give victory to those who

Instructions

stand by 'Ali, and disappoint those who disappoint 'Ali."

Instructions

Nevertheless, none believed in what Allah has revealed to His

Instructions

Prophet about you except a few. Similarly, this (Divinely

Instructions

commissioned) declaration did not increase others but

Instructions

obstinacy. In defiance of them, Almighty Allah had revealed

Instructions

in this connection: "O you who believe! Whoever from among

Instructions

you turns back from his religion, then Allah will bring a

Instructions

people. He shall love them and they shall love Him. (They

Instructions

shall be) lowly before the believers, mighty against the

Instructions

unbelievers. They shall strive hard in Allah's way and shall not

Instructions

fear the censure of any censurer.

Instructions

This is Allahs favor, He gives it to whom He pleases. And

Instructions

Allah is Ample-giving, Knowing. Only Allah is your Guardian

Instructions

and His Messenger and those who believe: those who keep

Instructions

up prayers and give alms while they are in the state of the

Instructions

genuflection of prayer. And whoever takes Allah and His

Instructions

messenger and those who believe for a guardian, then,

Instructions

surely, the party of Allah are they that shall be triumphant."

Instructions

Our Lord! We believe in what You have revealed and we

Instructions

follow the messenger, so, write us down with those who bear

Instructions

witness. Our Lord! Make not our hearts to deviate after You

Instructions

have guided us aright. And grant us from Your mercy. Surely,

Instructions

You are the most liberal Giver. O Allah, We do realize that this

Instructions

Is the truth whose source is You. So, curse those who object,

Instructions

act arrogantly (towards it), belie, and deny it. And they who

Instructions

act unjustly shall know to what final place of turning they

Instructions

shall turn back. Peace be upon you, O Commander of the

Instructions

Faithful, chief of the Prophets' successors, foremost of the

Instructions

worshippers, and most ascetic. May Allah's mercy and

Instructions

blessings be upon you. So be His peace and compliments. It

Instructions

is you who served a poor man, an orphan, and a prisoner with

Instructions

sake of Allah, while you did not ask for reward or thanks.

Hence, Almighty Allah has revealed the following about you:

Instructions

"And they prefer them to themselves though poverty may

Instructions

afflict them. And whoever is preserved from the

Instructions

niggardliness of his soul, these it is that are the successful

Instructions

ones." Verily, it is you who is the suppressor of rage and it is

Instructions

you who is the pardoner of people, and Allah loves the good-

Instructions

doers. It is also you who is the steadfast in distress and

Instructions

affliction, as well as in times of conflicts. And it is you who

Instructions

distributes things completely equally, who is just among the

Instructions

subjects, and the one having full acquaintance with the laws

Instructions

of Allah among all people. Informing about the favors that He

Instructions

has conferred upon you, Allah the All-exalted says, "Is he

Instructions

then who is a believer like him who is a transgressor? They

Instructions

are not equal. As for those who believe and do good, the

Instructions

gardens of Paradise are their abiding-place; an entertainment

Instructions

for what they did." It is you to whom the knowledge of the

Instructions

Divine Revelation is given exclusively as well as the laws of

Instructions

true interpretation (of the Holy Qur'an) and the words of the

Instructions

Messenger. You are known for your unforgettable situations,

Instructions

renowned positions, and memorable events, in the Battle of

Instructions

Badr and the Battle of the Allies (al-Ahzab): "When the eyes

Instructions

turned dull, and the hearts rose up to the throats, and you

Instructions

began to think diverse thoughts of Allah. There, the believers

Instructions

were tried and they were shaken with severe shaking. And

Instructions

When the hypocrites and those in whose hearts was a

Instructions

disease began to say: 'Allah and His Messenger did not

Instructions

promise us (victory) but only to deceive. And when a party of

them said, ،O people of Yathrib! There is no place to stand for them said, O people of Yathrib! There is no place to stand for

Instructions

you here, therefore, go back. And a party of them asked

Instructions

permission of the prophet, saying: 'Surely, our houses are

Instructions

exposed.' And they were not exposed; they only desired to fly

Instructions

away." Almighty Allah has also said: "And when the believers

Instructions

saw the allies, they said: 'This is what Allah and His

Instructions

Messenger promised us. And Allah and His Messenger

Instructions

spoke the truth.' And it only increased them in faith and

Instructions

submission." On that day, you (O 'Ali) killed their knight, 'Amr

Instructions

(ibn 'Abd-Wadd) and defeated their allies: "And Allah turned

Instructions

back the unbelievers in their rage. They did not obtain any

Instructions

advantage. And Allah sufficed the believers in fighting. And

Instructions

Allah is Strong, Mighty." On the Battle of Uhud: "When they

Instructions

ran off precipitately and did not wait for any one and the

Instructions

Messenger was calling them from their rear." And you were

Instructions

engaged in preventing the polytheists from reaching the

Instructions

Prophet, on both sides-the right and the left, until Almighty

Instructions

Allah drove them back, full of fear. Hence, He gave victory, by

Instructions

means of you,to the disappointing ones. On the Battle of

Instructions

Hunayn, as is accounted by the Divine Revelation: "When

Instructions

your great numbers made you vain, but they availed you

Instructions

nothing. And the earth became strait to you notwithstanding

Instructions

its spaciousness, then you turned back retreating. Then,

Instructions

Allah sent down His tranquility upon His Messenger and

Instructions

upon the believers.

Instructions

." "The believers" were you and your party.

Instructions

You uncle, al-'Abbas, was calling at the defeated party: "O

Instructions

companions of Sürah al-Baqarah! O owners of the Allegiance

Instructions

of the Tree!" He still shouted until a group responded to him,

Instructions

and it was you who replaced them in fighting, and it was you

Instructions

who aided the Prophet instead of them. They therefore

Instructions

returned free from reward, and hoping for repentance, as was

Instructions

promised by Almighty Allah. He, majestic be His mention,

Instructions

says, "Then will Allah, after this, turn mercifully to whom He

Instructions

pleases." As for you, you were awarded the rank of

Instructions

steadfastness and prized the great reward. On the Battle of

Instructions

Khaybar, when Allah exposed the cowardice of the

Instructions

hypocrites and cut off the roots of the atheists, so, all praise

Instructions

be to Allah, Lord of the worlds (for that): "And, certainly, they

Instructions

had made a covenant with Allah before, that they would not

Instructions

turn their backs. And Allah's covenant shall be inquired of."

Instructions

O master, you are the conclusive argument (of Allah), the

Instructions

clear course, the poured grace, and the radiant evidence. So,

Instructions

congratulations, for the favors that Allah has given you.

Instructions

perdition overtake your enemies, the ignorant! You presented

Instructions

yourself with the Prophet-peace be upon him and his

Instructions

Household- during all battles and expeditions that he led;

Instructions

you always carried the pennon with him and stroke (the

Instructions

enemies) with your sword before him. Then, due to your

Instructions

prominent determination and your sagacity in all affairs, he

Instructions

(i.e. the Prophet) appointed you as the commander on all

Instructions

occasions, and you were never under the commandment of

Instructions

another. On many occasions, your piety prevented you from

Instructions

doing what you had decided about a matter, while your rival

Instructions

followed his (personal) lust and committed that matter.

Instructions

Thus, the ignorant ones thought that you were incapable of

Instructions

doing that which had been done by your rival! I swear by

Instructions

Allah that any one who thought so had missed the right thing

Instructions

and had never found the true guidance. However, you

Instructions

clarified the misunderstanding in which those who fancied

Instructions

and doubted fell by your saying-may Allah's peace be upon

Instructions

you: "One who has been through thick and thin of life finds

Instructions

the excuses to be preventing him from orders and

Instructions

prohibitions of Allah, but he disregards them despite

Instructions

capability (to succumb to them and instead follows the

Instructions

commands of Allah), while one who has no restraints of

Instructions

religion seizes the opportunity (and accepts the excuses for

Instructions

not following the commands of Allah)." You have said the

Instructions

very truth, I swear it by Allah, and the followers of vanity are

Instructions

indeed losers. And when the two preachers (of their

Instructions

allegiance) tried to deceive you; and said, "We want to go on

Instructions

lumrah!" You thus answered them,'

Instructions

"I swear by your lives; you

Instructions

do not want to go on 'umrah; rather, you want to betray me!"

Instructions

Hence, you made covenant with them again and you

Instructions

renewed their allegiance to you; but they exerted all efforts to

Instructions

act hypocritically. And when you drew their attentions to this

Instructions

act, they neglected, redid it again, and did not follow your

Instructions

advice. Thus, their end result was loss. After them, the

Instructions

people of Syria (mutinied)! So, you went to fight them after

Instructions

you had provided all excuses, while they did not follow the

Instructions

true religion neither did they understand the Qur'an. They

Instructions

were rabble, rot, and deviants, and they were unbelievers in

Instructions

what was revealed to Muhammad about your leadership, and

Instructions

they were supporters of those who antagonized you. While,

Instructions

Almighty Allah ordered everyone to follow you and instructed

Instructions

the believers to support you. He, the Almighty and All-

Instructions

majestic, has said in this respect: "O you who believe! Be

Instructions

careful of your duty to Allah, and be with the truthful."

Instructions

O master, through you did the right manifest itself, but the

Instructions

people discarded it. And you made clear the (Prophetic)

Instructions

traditions after they had been eradicated and confused.

Instructions

Hence, you enjoy the priority of struggling for the sake of

Instructions

confirming the Divine Revelation, and you enjoy the virtue of

Instructions

struggling for the sake of confirming the true interpretation

Instructions

(of the Divine Revelation). Your enemy is in fact the enemy of

Instructions

Allah and the denier of Allah's Messenger. Your enemy thus

Instructions

calls for vanity, judges unfairly, usurps the position of rule,

Instructions

and drives his fans to Hellfire. While 'Ammar (ibn Yasir)

Instructions

strove and called at the two parties (of the battle): "How

Instructions

eager l am to join Paradise!" When he then asked for a drink,

Instructions

he was served with a drink of milk; he thus shouted,

Instructions

glorifying Allah, and said: "The Messenger of Allah-peace of

Allah be upon him and his Household-did say to me: ،The Allah be upon him and his Household-did say to me: The

Instructions

last drink that you will have in this world is a cup of milk, and

Instructions

the transgressing party will kill you." Thus, Abu'l-'Adiyah al-

Instructions

Fazari faced and killed him. The curse of Allah and the curse

Instructions

of all His angels and Messengers be upon this Abu'l-'Adiyah,

Instructions

upon any one who unsheathed a sword against you, and

Instructions

upon any one against whom you unsheathed your sword- O

Instructions

Commander of the Faithful- (Curse be upon) the polytheists

Instructions

and the hypocrites up to the Religion Day. Curse be also upon

Instructions

any one whom is pleased by whatever upsets you, and curse

Instructions

be upon any one who is not passive for whatever upsets you

Instructions

and upon any one who bypasses and does not deny, and

Instructions

upon any one who supports your rivals by deeds or words,

Instructions

and upon any one who fails to support you, and upon any

Instructions

one who slackens to fight with you, and upon any one who

Instructions

despises your merits, and upon any one who denies your

Instructions

right, and upon any one who leaves you and joins one upon

Instructions

whom Almighty Allah has given you priority. Allah's peace,

Instructions

mercy, and blessings, compliments, and greetings be upon

Instructions

you and upon the lmams from your Immaculate Household.

Instructions

Verily, Allah is Praised and Glorious. What is more

Instructions

astounding and more horrible than usurping your right is the

Instructions

usurpation of Fadak from the veracious, pure, and luminous

Instructions

Lady, the doyenne of the women of the world! As well as the

Instructions

rejection of your testimony and the testimonies of the two

Instructions

masters-your descendants, and the Household of the

Instructions

Chosen Prophet, may Allah's peace be upon you all. Whereas

Instructions

Almighty Allah has elevated you in rank over the nation,

Instructions

raised your positions, and demonstrated your preference and

Instructions

honorable favorability over all the created beings. He thus

Instructions

removed away filth from you and purified you with the most

Instructions

thorough purification.

Instructions

Allah the Almighty and All-majestic says: "Indeed, man is

Instructions

created of a hasty temperament. Being greatly grieved when

Instructions

evil afflicts him and niggardly when good befalls him, except

Instructions

those who pray." Hence, Almighty Allah has excluded His

Instructions

Chosen Prophet you, the chief of the Prophets' successors,

Instructions

from among all His beings. How deviant from the right he

Instructions

who has wronged you is! They then deceptively decided the

Instructions

share of 'Near of Kin' to be for you, after they wrongly

Instructions

deprived its meritorious people of it. When the matter (of

Instructions

rule) was returned to you, you continued carrying out what

Instructions

they had decided, because you desired for what is stored by

Instructions

Allah for you. Your ordeals are thus similar to the ordeals

Instructions

encountered by the Prophets, peace be upon them, who also

Instructions

faced loneliness and absence of supporters. As you replaced

Instructions

the Prophet by spending that night on his bed instead of him,

Instructions

this situation was similar to the situation of the self-

Instructions

sacrificing Prophet, peace be upon him. Because you

Instructions

responded (to the Prophet's order) in the same way as he

Instructions

(i.e. Prophet Isma'il) responded (to his father's request), and

Instructions

you obeyed the Prophet in the same way as (Prophet) Isma'il

Instructions

obeyed with steadfastness and reliance upon Allah. Hence,

Instructions

when his father said to him, 'O my son! Surely, I have seen in

Instructions

a dream that I should sacrifice you, consider then what you

Instructions

see.' He said, 'O my father! Do what you are commanded; if

Instructions

Allah please, you will find me of the patient ones.' The same

Instructions

situation with you, when the Prophet-peace be upon him

Instructions

and his Household-chose you to replace him, and ordered

Instructions

you to sleep in his bed instead of him so that you should

Instructions

protect him by sacrificing yourself for him, you quickly

Instructions

responded to his request with obedience, by exposing

Instructions

yourself to killing fearlessly. So, Allah the All-exalted

Instructions

appreciated this obedience to him and He, majestic be His

Instructions

mention, declared your excellent deed by saying: "And among

Instructions

men is he who sells himself to seek the pleasure of Allah."

Instructions

Then, your ordeal on the Battle of Siffin, when books of the

Instructions

Qur'an were raised (on spearheads) out of trickery and

Instructions

deception, causing doubt to be aroused, the truth to be

Instructions

neglected, and conjecture to be followed, this ordeal was

Instructions

similar to the ordeal of (Prophet) Aaron when (Prophet)

Instructions

Moses appointed him as the leader of his people, but they

Instructions

left him alone, while (Prophet) Aaron was calling at them,

Instructions

saying: my people! You are only tried by it, and surely your

Instructions

Lord is the Beneficent Allah. Therefore, follow me and obey

Instructions

my order. They said, 'We will by no means cease to keep to

Instructions

its worship until Moses returns to us. Similarly, when the
