day of Rajab and the fifteenth night of Sha'ban. However, al- Shahid added that it is also dedicated to the first night of Rajab, the fifteenth night of it, the fifteenth day of it, and the fifteenth day of Sha'ban.

When you intend to visit the holy tomb of Imam al-Husayn ('a) at these times, you may bathe yourself, put on the cleanest of your clothes, stop at the gate of the holy shrine directing the face toward the kiblah direction, and invoke

Almighty Allah's greetings upon the Holy Prophet, lmam 'Ali, Lady Fatimah al-Zahra', Imam al-Hasan, Imam al-Husayn, and the Holy Imams - peace be upon them all.

The form of invocation of greetings and the form of asking permission to enter the holy shrine will be cited in the coming form of ziyarah known as Ziyarah on 'Arafah (or 'Arafat) Day.

You may then enter the shrine, stop at the holy tomb, and repeat the following word one hundred times:

اَلله اَكْبَرُ

God is great

You may then say the following words:

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا ابْنَ رَسُوْلِ اللهِ

Peace be upon you, son of the Messenger of God.

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا ابْنَ خَاتَمِ النَّبِيِّيْنَ

Peace be upon you, O son of the Seal of the Prophets

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا ابْنَ سَيِّدِ الْمُرْسَلِينَ

Peace be upon you, son of the Master of Messengers.

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا ابْنَ سَيَّدِ الْوَصِيِّيْنَ

Peace be upon you, son of the master of the guardians.

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَآ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللهِ

Peace be upon you, O Abu Abdullah.

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا حُسَيْنَ بْنَ عَلِيٌّ

Peace be upon you, Hussein bin Ali.

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا ابْنَ فَاطِمَةَ سَيِّدَةٍ نِسَاءِ الْعَالَمِيْنَ

Peace be upon you, O son of Fatima, mistress of the women of the worlds.

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا وَلِيَّ اللهِ وَ ابْنَ وَلِيَّهِ

Peace be upon you, O guardian of God and son of His guardian.

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا صَفِيَّ اللهِ وَ ابْنَ صَفِيِّهِ

Peace be upon you, O friend of God and son of his class.

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا حُجَةَ اللهِ وَ ابْنَ حُجَتِهِ

Peace be upon you, O Hujjat of God and the son of Hujjah.

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا حَبِيْبَ اللهِ وَ ابْنَ حَبِيْبِهِ

Peace be upon you, O beloved of God and son of His beloved.

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا سَفِيْرَ اللهِ وَ ابْنَ سَفِيْرِهِ

Peace be upon you, O ambassador of God and son of His ambassador.

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا خَازِنَ الْكِتَابِ الْمَسْطُوْرِ

Peace be upon you, keeper of the written book.

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا وَارِثَ التَّوْرَاةِ وَ الْإِنْجِيْلِ وَ الزَّبُوْرِ

Peace be upon you, O heir of the Torah, the Gospel, and the Psalms.

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَآ آَمِيْنَ الرَّحْمْنِ

Peace be upon you, O Amen, the Most Gracious.

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا شَرِيْكَ الْقُرْاْنِ

Peace be upon you, partner of the Qur’an.

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا عَمُوْدَ الدِّيْنِ

Peace be upon you, O pillar of religion.

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا بَابَ حِكْمَةِ رَبَّ الْعَالَمِيْنَ

Peace be upon you, O door of the wisdom of the Lord of the Worlds.

ٱَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا بَابَ جِطَةِ اِلَّذِيْ مَنْ دَخَلَهُ كَانَ مِنَ الْأمِنِينَ

Peace be upon you, O Gate of Jatta, whoever enters it is safe.

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا عَيْبَةً عِلْمِ اللهِ

Peace be upon you, O defect of God’s knowledge

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا مَوْضِعَ سِرِّ اللهِ

Peace be upon you, O place of God’s secret

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا ثَارَ اللهِ وَ ابْنَ ثَارِهِ وَ الْوِثْرَ الْمَؤْثُوْرَ

Peace be upon you, O Thaar Allah, son of Thaar Allah, and the descendant of Al-Wathar.

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ وَ عَلَى الْاَرْوَاحِ الَّتِي حَلَّثْ بِفِنَآئِكَ وَ أَنَاخَتْ بِرَحْلِكَ

Peace be upon you and upon the souls who spoke of your death and mourned your departure.

بِآَبِي أَنْتَ وَ أَمِّنْ وَ نَفْسِيْ يَآ آَبَا عَبْدِ اللهِ

You are my father, and I am safe and myself, O Abu Abdullah.

لَقَدْ عَظُمَتِ الْمُصِيْبَةُ وَ جَلَّتِ الرَّزِيَّةُ بِكَ عَلَيْنَا وَ عَلَى جَمِيْعِ اَهْلِ الْإِسْلَامِ

The calamity is great and your calamity is great for us and for all the people of Islam.

فَلَعَنَ اللهُ أُمَةً اَسَّسَتْ اَسَاسَ الظَّلْمِ وَ الْجَوْرِ عَلَيْكُمْ اَهْلَ الْبَيْتِ

May God curse a nation that laid the foundation of oppression and injustice against you, People of the House.

وَلَعَنَ اللهُ أُمَّةً دَفَعَثْكُمْ عَنْ مَقَامِكُمْ

May God curse the nation that pushed you away from your position.

وَ اَزَالَثْكُمْ عَنْ مَرَاتِبِكُمُ الَّتِيْ رَتَّبَكُمُ اللهُ فِيْهَا

And remove you from your ranks in which God has placed you.

بِآبِي أَنْتَ وَ أُمّيْ وَ نَفْسِيْ يَآ آَبَا عَبْدِ اللهِ

My father, my mother, and myself, O Abu Abdullah.

اَشْهَدُ لَقَدِ اقْشَعَرَتْ لِدِمَائِكُمْ اَظِلَّةُ الْعَرْشِ مَعَ اَظِلَّةِ الْخَلائِقِ

I bear witness that the canopies of the throne have quaked with your blood, along with the canopies of creation.

وَ بَكَثِكُمُ السَّمَآءُ وَ الْأَرْضُ وَ سُكَّانُ الْجِنَانِ وَ الْبَرِّ وَ الْبَحْرِ

Peace be upon you, O guardian of God and son of His guardian.

صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْكَ عَدَدَ مَا فِي عِلْمِ اللهِ

May God’s blessings be upon you as many as are within the knowledge of God

لَبَّيْكَ دَاعِيَ اللهِ

May the caller of God meet you

اِنْ كَانَ لَمْ يُجِبْكَ بَدَنِيْ عِنْدَ اسْتِغَاثَتِكَ وَ لِسَانِيْ عِنْدَ اسْتِنْصَارِكَ

If my body did not respond to you when you called for help and my tongue did not respond to you when you called for help,

فَقَدْ اَجَابَكَ قَلْبِيْ وَ سَمْعِي وَ بَصَرِيْ

My heart, my hearing, and my sight have answered you.

سُبْحَانَ رَبِّنَا اِنْ كَانَ وَعْدُ رَبِّنَا لَمَفْعُوْلًا

Glory be to our Lord, if the promise of our Lord is to be fulfilled.

اَشهَدُ اَنَّكَ طُهرٌ طَاهِرٌ مُطَهَرٌ مِنْ طُهْرٍ طَاهِرٍ مُطَهَّرٍ

I bear witness that you are pure, pure, purified of purity, pure, purified.

طَهُرْتَ وَ طَهُرَتْ بِكَ الْبِلَادُ

I make my request successful.

وَ طَهُرَتْ اَرْضٌ أَنْتَ بِهَا [فيْهَا] وَ طَهُرَ حَرَمُكَ

And the land you are in [it] has been purified, and your sanctuary has been purified.

اَشْهَدُ أَنَّكَ قَدْ اَمَرْتَ بِالْقِسْطِ وَ الْعَدْلِ وَ دَعَوْتَ اِلَيْهِمَا

I bear witness that you have commanded equity and justice and called for them

وَ أَنَّكَ صَادِقٌ صِدِّيْقٌ، صَدَقْتَ فِيْمَا دَعَوْتَ اِلَيْهِ

And you are truthful and truthful. You have spoken truthfully in what you have called for.

وَ أَنَّكَ ثَارُ اللهِ فِي الْاَرْضِ

And you are the revolt of God on earth

وَ اَشْهَدُ أَنَّكَ قَدْ بَلَّغْتَ عَنِ اللهِ

And I bear witness that you have conveyed information about God.

وَ عَنْ جَدِّكَ رَسُوْلِ اللهِ

And on the authority of your grandfather, the Messenger of God

وَ عَنْ أَبِيْكَ آَمِيْرِ الْمُؤْمِنِيْنَ

And on the authority of your father, the Commander of the Faithful

وَ عَنْ آَخِيْكَ الْحَسَنِ

And on the authority of your brother Al-Hasan

وَ نَصَحْتَ وَ جَاهَدْتَ فِيْ سَبِيْلِ اللهِ

And you advised and strove in the path of God.

وَ عَبَدْتَهُ مُخْلِصًا حَثِّى آَتَاكَ الْيَقِيْنُ

And you worshiped Him sincerely until certainty came to you.

فَجَزَاكَ اللهُ خَيْرَ جَزَآءِ السَّابِقِيْنَ

May God reward you with the best reward of those who preceded you.

وَ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْكَ وَ سَلَّمَ تَسْلِيْمًا

May God’s blessings and peace be upon you

اَللَّهُمَّ صَلَّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَأَلِ مُحَمَّدٍ وَ صَلِّ عَلَى الْحُسَيْنِ الْمَظْلُوْمِ

O God, bless Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, and bless the oppressed Hussein.

الشَّهيْدِ الرَّشِيْدِ

The righteous martyr

قَتِيْلِ الْعَبَرَاتِ

The murderer of the abras

وَ اَسِيْرِ الْكُرُبَاتِ

And the prisoner of distress

صَلَاةً نَامِيَةً زَاكِيَةً مُبَارَكَةًّ

And convey my prayers to them and to their souls.

يَضْعَدُ اَوَلَهَا وَ لَا يَنْفَدُ أخِرُهَا

Its beginning will be diminished and its end will not be exhausted.

اَفْضَلَ مَا صَلَّيْتَ عَلَى آَحَدٍ مِنْ آَوْلَادِ اَنْبِيَآئِكَ الْمُرْسَلِيْنَ

The best thing you have ever blessed one of the children of your messenged prophets

يَآ اِلْهَ الْعَالَمِيْنَ.

O God of the Worlds!

Shaykh al-Mufid adds: You may then direct towards the tomb

of 'Ali ibn al-Husayn, stop there, and say the following words:

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ اَيُّهَا الصِّدِّيْقُ الطَّيِّبُ

May God’s peace, mercy, and blessings be upon you.

الزَّكِيُّ الْحَبِيْبُ الْمُقَرَّبُ

The Pure One, the beloved and close one

وَ ابْنَ رَيْحَانَةٍ رَسُوْل اللّهِ

And Ibn Rayhanah, the Messenger of God

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ مِنْ شَهِيْدٍ مُخْتَسِبٍ

Peace be upon you from a committed martyr.

وَ رَخْمَةُ اللهِ وَ بَرَكَاتُهُ

And God's mercy and blessings

مَا اَكْرَمَ مَقَامَكَ وَ اَشْرَقَ مُثْقَلَبَكَ

How honorable is your position and how bright is your outlook?

اَشْهَدُ لَقَدْ شَكَرَ اللهُ سَعْيَكَ

I bear witness that God has thanked you for your efforts

وَ أَجْزَلَ ثَوَابَكَ

And reward you abundantly

وَ اَلْحَقَكَ بِالذَّرْوَةِ الْعَالِيَةِ

And catch the high peak

حَيْثُ الشَّرَفُ كُلَّ الشَّرَفِ

Where honor is all honor

وَ فِي الغَرَفِ السَّامِيَةِ

And in the sublime rooms

كَمَا مَنَّ عَلَيْكَ مِنْ قَبْلُ وَ جَعَلَكَ مِنْ اَهْل الْبَيْتِ

Just as He favored you before and made you one of the People of the House.

الَّذِيْنَ اَذْهَبَ اللهُ عَنْهُمُ الرِّجْسَ وَ طَهَرَهُمْ تَظهِيْرًا

From whom God removed impurity and purified them clearly.

صَلَوَاتُ اللّهِ عَلَيْكَ وَ رَحْمَةُ اللهِ وَ بَرَكَاتُهُ وَ رِضْوَانُهُ

May God’s prayers, mercy, blessings, and satisfaction be upon you.

فَاشفَعْ آَيُهَا السَّيَّدُ الطَاهِرُ إِلَى رَبَّكَ

Intercede, O pure Master, with your Lord.

فِيْ حَطَ الْاَثْقَالِ عَنْ ظَهْرِيْ وَ تَخْفِيْفِهَا عَنَّيْ

In taking the burdens off my back and easing them for me

وَ ازحَمْ ذُلِّي وَخُضُوْعِي لَكَ وَ لِلسَّيَّدِ آَبِيْكَ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْكُمَا.

Remove my humiliation and submission to you and to your master, may God bless you both.

Instructions

You may then throw yourself on the tomb and say the

following words:

زَادَ اللهُ فِي شَرَفِكُمْ فِي الْأَخِرَةِ

May God increase your honor in the Hereafter

كَمَا شَرَّفَكُمْ فِيْ الدُّنَيَا

Just as he honored you in this world

وَ اَسْعَدَكُمْ كَمَآ اَسْعَدَ بِكُمْ

And He made you happy as He made you happy

وَ اَشْهَدُ أَنَّكُمْ اَعْلَامُ الدِّيْنِ

And I bear witness that you are the leaders of the religion

وَ نَجُوْمُ الْعَالَمِيْنَ

And the stars of the worlds

وَ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَ رَحْمَةُ اللهِ وَ بَرَكَاتُهُ.

May God’s peace, mercy, and blessings be upon you.

You may then direct towards the martyrs and say the

following words:

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكُمْ يَآ اَنْصَارَ اللهِ

Peace be upon you, O supporters of God

وَ اَنْصَارَ رَسُوْلِهِ

And he supported his Messenger

وَ اَنْصَارَ عَلِيَّ بْنِ اَبِيْ طَالِبِ وَ اَنْصَارَ فَاطِمَةَ

He supported Ali bin Abi Talib and supported Fatima.

وَ اَنْصَارَ الْحَسَنِ وَ الْحُسَيْنِ

And the supporters of Al-Hasan and Al-Hussein

وَ أَنْصَارَ الإِسْلَامِ

And supporters of Islam

اَشْهَدُ أَنَّكُمْ لَقَدْ نَصَحْتُمْ للهِ

I bear witness that you have been sincere to God

وَ جَاهَدْتُمْ فِيْ سَبِيْلِهِ

And you fought in His cause

فَجَزَاكُمُ اللهُ عَنِ [مِنَ] الْإِسْلَامِ وَ اَهْلِهِ اَفْضَلَ الْجَزَآءِ

May God reward you on behalf of Islam and its people with the best reward.

فُزْتُمْ وَ اللهِ فَوْزًا عَظِيْمًا

By God, you have won a great victory

يَآ لَيْتَنِي كُنْتُ مَعَكُمْ فَافُوْزَ فَوْزًا عَظِيْمًا

I wish I were with you and won a great victory!

آَشْهَدُ اَنَّكُمْ اَخِيَآءً عِنْدَ رَبَّكُمْ تُرْزَقُوْنَ

I bear witness that you are trustworthy in the sight of your Lord, and you will be provided

اَشْهَدُ أَنَّكُمُ الشُّهَدَاءُ وَ السُّعَدَآءُ

I bear witness that you are the martyrs and the happy ones.

وَ أَنَّكُمُ الْفَائِزُوْنَ فِيْ دَرَجَاتِ الْعُلَى

And you are the winners of the highest ranks.

وَ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَ رَحْمَةُ اللهِ وَ بَرَكَاتُهُ.

May God’s peace, mercy, and blessings be upon you.
