Fifth: It is highly advisable to bathe oneself at this night. A Hadith reads that if one washes himself at the first night of Ramadan, one will be secured against prurigo up to the next Ramadan.

Sixth: It is recommended to bathe oneself in a flowing river and to pour on the head thirty handfuls of water so as to be mentally pure up to the next Ramadan.

Seventh: It is recommended to visit the holy tomb of Imam al- Husayn (a.s.) so that sins will be forgiven and the like of the reward of those who undertake Hajj and 'Umrah in that year will be gained.

Eighth: It is recommended, at this night, to begin with the one thousand unit prayer that has been previously mentioned at the end of the second part of the rites of Ramadan.

Ninth: It is recommended to offer a two unit prayer reciting in each unit Surah al-Faatehah and Surah al-An'am (No. 6) and to pray Almighty Allah for security against apprehensions and ailments.

اَللّهُمَّ يَا مَنْ يَمْلِكُ التَّدْبِيْرَ

Oh God, you who have control

وَهُوَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءِ قَدِيْرٌ،

And He has power over all things,

يَا مَنْ يَعْلَمُ خَآئِئَةَ الاَعْيُنِ

O He who knows the deceitful eyes

وَمَا تُخْفِي الصُدُوْرِ وَتَجِنّ الضَّمِيْرُ

The breasts do not hide and the conscience does not deceive

وَهُوَ اللَّطِيْفُ الْخَبِيْرُ،

He is the Kind and All-Knowing,

اَللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْنَا مِمَّنْ نَوْى فَعَمِلَ،

Oh God, make us among those who intended and did so.

وَلَا تَجْعَلْنَا مِمَّنْ شَقِيَ فَكَسِلَ،

And do not make us among those who are wretched and lazy,

وَلَا مِمَّنُ هُوَ عَلَى غَيْرِ عَمَلِ يَتَّكِلُ،

Nor is he who trusts in nothing other than his work,

اَللّهُمَّ صَحَّحْ آَبْدَانَنَا مِنَ الْعِلَل،

Oh God, protect our bodies from their ills.

وَاَعِنَّا عَلَى مَا افْتَرَضْتَ عَلَيْنَا مِنَ الْعَمَلِ،

Help us in the work you have enjoined upon us.

حَثّى يَنْقَضِيَ عَنَّا شَهْرُكَ هَذَا وَقَدْ آَدَيْنَا مَفْرُوْضَكَ فِيْهِ عَلَيْنَا،

Until this month of yours ends with us and we have fulfilled what you have imposed upon us,

اَللَّهُمَّ اَعِنَّا عَلَى صيَامِهِ،

Oh God, help us to fast,

وَوَفَّقْنَا لِقِيَامِهِ،

And We succeeded in its resurrection,

وَنَشِّطْنَا فِيْهِ لِلصَّلَاةِ،

And we energized us therein to pray,

وَلَا تَحْجُبْنَا مِنَ الْقِرَآءَةِ،

Do not deprive us of reading.

وَسَهِّلْ لَنَا فِيْهِ اِيْتَآءَ الزَّكَاةِ،

And make it easy for us in it to pay zakat.

اَللّهُمَّ لَا تُسَلَّط عَلَيْنَا وَصَبًا وَلَا تَعَبّا

O God, do not impose upon us weariness or fatigue.

وَلَا سَقَمًا وَلَا عَطَبًا،

Neither sickness nor damage,

اَللّهُمَّ اززُقْنَا الْاِفْطَارَ مِنْ رِزْقِكَ الْحَلَالِ،

Oh God, grant us iftar from your lawful provision.

اَللَّهُمَّ سَهِّلْ لَنَا فِيْهِ مَا قَسَمْتَهُ مِنْ رِزْقِكَ،

Oh God, make it easy for us in it what you have apportioned of your provision.

وَيَسِّرْ مَا قَدَّرْتَهُ مِنْ آَمْرِكَ،

And facilitate what You have decreed of Your command,

وَاجْعَلْهُ حَلَالًا طَيِّبًا نَقِيًّا مِنَ الْأَتَامِ

And make it lawful, good, and pure from impurities.

خَالِصًا مِنَ الْاَصَارِ وَالْاَجْرَامِ،

Free from evil and crime,

اَللّهُمَّ لَا تُطعِمْنَا اِلَّا طَيِّبًا غَيْرَ خَبِيْثِ وَلَا حَرَامٍ،

Oh God, do not feed us anything except that which is good, neither evil nor forbidden.

وَاجْعَلْ رِزْقَكَ لَنَا حَلَالًا لَا يَشُوْبُهُ دَنَش وَلَا اَسْقَامُ

And make your provision for us lawful, untainted by impurity or impurity.

يَا مَنْ عِلْمُهُ بِالسَّرِّ كَعِلْمِهِ بِالْإِعْلَانِ،

O He whose knowledge of secret is as knowledge of revelation,

يَا مُتَفَضَّلًا عَلَى عِبادِهِ بِالْإِحسَانِ،

O He who bestows benevolence upon His servants,

يَا مَنْ هُوَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءِ قَدِيْرٌ

O He who has power over all things

وَبِكُلَ شَيْءٍ عَلِيْمٌ خَبِيْرٌ

And He is All-Knowing and All-Aware of all things

اَلْهِمْنَا ذِكْرَكَ

Inspire us your remembrance

وَجَنِّبْنَا عُسْرَكَ،

And spare us your hardship,

وَأَنِلْنَا يُسْرَكَ،

And sin against us by completing your obedience, which is a blessing.

وَاَهْدِنَا لِلرَّشَادِ،

And guide us to guidance,

وَوَفَّقْنَا لِلسَّدَادِ،

And He helped us to pay,

وَاعْصِمْنَا مِنَ البَلايَا،

And protect us from calamities,

وَصُنَّا مِنَ الْاَوْزَارِ وَالْخَطَايَا،

Protect us from burdens and sins,

يَا مَنْ لَا يَغْفِرُ عَظِيْمَ الذُّنُوْبِ غَيْرُهُ،

O He who does not forgive the greatest sins of others,

وَلَا يَكْشِفُ السُّوْءَ اِلَّا هُوَ،

And no one reveals evil except Him.

يَا أزْحَمَ الرَّاحِمِيْنَ،

O Most Compassionate of the Merciful,

وَاَكْرَمَ الْأَكْرَمِيْنَ،

And honor the generous ones,

صَلَّ عَلْى مُحَمَدٍ وَآهلِ بَيْتِهِ الطَيَّبِيْنَ،

Blessings be upon Muhammad and his good family,

وَاجْعَلْ صِيَامَنَا مَقْبُوْلًا،

And delegation to the abode of eternity

وَبِالْبِرِّ وَالتَّقْوْى مَؤْصُوْلًا،

Rooted in righteousness and piety,

وَكَذِلِكَ فَاجْعَل سَعْيَنَا مَشْكُوْرًا

Likewise, make our endeavors praiseworthy.

وَقِيَامَنَا مَبْرُوْرًا،

And our resurrection will be accepted,

وَقُرْانَنَا مَرْفُوعًا،

And our Qur’an is raised,

وَدُعَاءَنَا مَسْمُوعًا،

And our prayers are heard,

وَاهْدِنَا لِلْحُسْشَى،

And guide us to the senses,

وَجَنِّبْنَا العُسْرى،

And spare us hardship,

وَيَسِّرْنَا لِلْيُسْرى،

And make us easy for ease,

وَاَعِلْ لَنَا الدَّرَجَاتِ،

And give us degrees,

وَضَاعِفْ لَنَا الحَسَنَاتِ،

And multiply for us good deeds,

وَاقْبَلْ مِنَّا الصَّوْمَ وَالضَّلَاةَ،

And accept from us our fasting and misguidance.

واسْمَعْ مِنَّا الدَّعَوَاتِ،

And hear our prayers,

وَاغْفِرْ لَنَا الْخَطِيْئَاتِ،

And forgive us our sins,

وَتَجَاوَزْ عَنَّا السَّيِّئَاتِ،

And pass over from us the bad deeds,

وَاجْعَلْنَا مِنَ الْعَامِلِيْنَ الْفَائِزِيْنَ،

And make us among the successful workers,

وَلَا تَجْعَلْنَا مِنَ الْمَغْضُوْبِ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلَا الضَّالَّيْنَ،

And do not make us among those who have incurred wrath or those who have gone astray.

حَثَّى يَنْقَضِيَ شَهْرُ رَمَضَانَ عَنَّا

Until the month of Ramadan ends for us

وَقَدْ قَبِلْتَ فِيْهِ صِيَامَنَا وَقِيَامَنَا،

In it you accepted our fasting and prayers.

وَزَكَّيْتَ فِيْهِ اَعْمَالَنَا،

And You have purified our deeds therein,

وَغَفَرْتَ فِيْهِ ذُنُوْبَنَا،

And our sins are forgiven in him,

وَاَجْزَلْتَ فِيْهِ مِنْ كُلِّ خَيْرٍ نَصِيْبَنَا،

And you abundantly rewarded us with every good thing,

فَانَّكَ الإِلهُ الْمُجِيْبُ،

For you are the God who answers,

وَالرَّبُّ الْقَرِيْبُ،

And the Lord is near,

وَاَنْتَ بِكُلَّ شَيْءٍ مُحِيْطْ.

And you are surrounded by everything.

Instructions

Twelfth: It is recommended to say the following supplicatory

prayer that is reported from Imam Ja'far al-Sadig(a.s.) as is

mentioned in the book of al-labal:

اَللّهُمَّ رَبَّ شَهْرِ رَمَضَانَ،

Oh God, Lord of the month of Ramadan,

مُنَزِّلَ الْقُرْانِ،

The revelation of the Qur’an,

هَذَا شَهْرُ رَمَضَانَ

And the seas ripple, and whoever swims in their depths.

الَّذِيْ أَنْزَلْتَ فِيْهِ الْقُرْاْنَ،

In which You revealed the Qur’an,

وَاَنْزَلْتَ فِيهِ اَيَاتٍ بَيِّنَاتٍ مِنَ الْهُدْى وَالْفُرْقَانِ،

The Great and Exalted Knower of the Unseen and the Witnessed,

اَللَهُمَّ ازْزُقْنَا صِيَامَهُ،

Oh God, grant us his fasting.

وَاَعِنَّا عَلَى قِيَامِهِ،

Help us to rise,

اَللَّهُمَّ سَلَّمْهُ لَنَا

Oh God, grant him peace for us

وَسَلَّمْنَا فِيْهِ

And we were blessed in it

وَتَسَلَّمَهُ مِنَّا فِيْ يُسْرٍ مِثْكَ وَمُعَافَاةٍ،

He received it from us in peace and in good health.

وَاجْعَلْ فِيْمَا تَقْضِي وَتُقَدَّرُ

And do what you decree and decree

مِنَ الْأَمْرِ الْمَخْتُوْمِ

From the sealed matter

وَفِيْمَا تَفْرُقُ مِنَ الْأَمْرِ الْحَكِيمِ

And in what you differentiate from the wise matter

فِيْ لَيْلَةِ الْقَدْرِ

On the Night of Decree

مِنَ الْقَضَاءِ الَّذِيْ لَا يُرَدُّ وَلَا يُبَدَّلُ،

Of the decree that cannot be refuted or changed,

آَنْ تَكْتُبَنِي مِنْ حُجَاجِ بَيْتِكَ الْحَرَامِ

That you appoint me as one of the pilgrims to your Sacred House

الْمَبْرُوْرِ حَجُهُمُ،

Their Hajj is accepted,

الْمَشْكُوْرِ سَعْيْهُمُ،

Thankful for their efforts,

الْمَغْفُوْرِ ذُنُوْبُهُمُ،

whose sins are forgiven,

الْمُكَفَّرِ عَنْهُمْ سَيَّئَاتُهُمْ،

whose sins are atoned for,

وَاجْعَلْ فِيْمَا تَقْضِي وَتُقَدَّرُ

And do what you decree and decree

آَنْ تُطِيْلَ فِيْ عُمْرِيْ

To prolong my life

وَتُوَسَّعَ عَلَيَّ مِنَ الرِّزْقِ الْحَلَالِ.

And lawful sustenance has been abundantly provided for me.

اَللَّهُمَّ اِنَّ هَذَا شَهْرُ رَمَضَانَ...

Oh God, this is the month of Ramadan...

Fifteenth: It is recommended to say the following:

اَللّهُمَّ اِنَّهُ قَدْ دَخَلَ شَهْرُ رَمَضَانَ

Oh God, the month of Ramadan has entered.

اَللَهُمَّ رَبَّ شَهْرِ رَمَضَانَ،

And the desires of the oppressed and the needy

الَذِيْ اَنْزَلْتَ فِيْهِ الْقُرْاْنَ،

In which You sent down the Qur’an,

وَجَعَلْتَهُ بَيِّنَاتٍ مِنَ الْهُدْى وَالْفُرْقَانِ،

And You made it clear proofs of guidance and criterion.

اَللَهُمَّ فَبَارِك لَنَا فِيْ شَهْرٍ رَمَضَانَ،

Oh God, bless us in the month of Ramadan,

وَاَعِنَّا عَلَى صِيَامِهِ وَصَلَوَاتِهِ

Help us in his fasting and prayers

وَتَقَبَّلْهُ مِنَّا.

And accept it from us.

of Ramadan:

اَلْحَمْدُ للهِ الَّذِيْ اَكْرَمَنَا بِكَ

Praise be to God who honored us with you

آَيُّهَا الشَّهْرُ الْمُبَارَك،

O blessed month,

اَللَهُمّ فَقَوّنَا عَلَى صِيَامِنَا وَقِيَامِنَا،

Oh God, grant us strength in our fasting and prayers.

وَثَبّثْ اَقْدَامَنَا

And make our feet firm

وَانْصُرْنَا عَلَى الْقَوْمِ الْكَافِرِيْنَ،

And grant us victory over the disbelieving people,

اَللَّهُمَّ اَنْتَ الْوَاحِدُ فَلَا وَلَدَ لَكَ،

Oh God, You are the One, and You have no children.

وَاَنْتَ الصَّمَدُ فَلَا شِبْهَ لَكَ،

And You are the Eternal, there is no one like You.

وَاَنْتَ الْعَزِيْزُ فَلَا يُعِزَّكَ شَيْءٌ،

And you are the Mighty, nothing can make you proud.

وَأَنْتَ الْغَنِيُّ وَآَنَا الْفَقِيْرُ،

And you are rich and I am poor,

وَاَنْتَ الْمَوْلَى وَأَنَا الْعَبْدُ،

You are the master and I am the servant,

وَاَنْتَ الْغُفُوْرُ وَاَنَا الْمُذْنِبُ،

You are the Forgiving and I am the guilty.

وَاَنْتَ الرَّحِيْمُ وَأَنَا الْمُخْطِئُ،

You are the Most Merciful, and I am the one who is wrong.

وَأَنْتَ الْخَالِقُ وَآنَا الْمَخْلُوْقُ،

You are the Creator and I am the created being.

وَاَنْتَ الْحَيُّ وَأَنَا الْمَيّثُ،

And you are the living and I am the dead,

اَسْاَلَكَ بِرَحْمَتِكَ

I ask you for your mercy

أَنْ تَغْفِرَ لِيْ وَتَرْحَمَنِيْ وَتَجَاوَزَ عَنِّي

That you forgive me and have mercy on me and pardon me

إِنَّكَ عَلَى كُلّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيْرٌ.

Indeed, You have power over all things.

it has been narrated that Imam Ja'far al-Sadiq(a.s.) used to

say the following supplicatory prayer before he would start

reciting the Holy Qur'an:

اللّهُمّ إِنَّي اَشهَدُ آَنَّ هَذَا كِتَابُكَ الْمُثْزَلَ مِنْ عِنْدِكَ

Oh God, I bear witness that this is your book sent from you.

عَلى رَسُوْلِكَ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِاللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وألِهِ،

Glory be to God, the Creator of everything,

وَكَلَامُكَ النَّاطِقُ عَلَى لِسَانٍ نَبِيِّكَ،

And your words spoken by your Prophet,

جَعَلْتَهُ هَادِيًا مِثْكَ إِلَى خَلْقِكَ،

You made him a guide from You to Your creation,

وَحَبْلًا مُتَّصِلًا فِيْمَا بَيْنَكَ وَبَيْنَ عِبَادِكَ،

And a continuous rope between you and your servants,

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي نَشَرْتُ عَهْدَكَ وَكِتابَكَ،

Oh God, I have published Your covenant and Your book.

اَللَّهُمَّ فَاجْعَلْ نَظَرِيْ فِيْهِ عِبَادَةً،

Oh God, make my looking at it an act of worship.

وَقِرَاءَتِي فِيْهِ فِكَرًا،

And my reading of it intellectually,

وَفِكرِي فِيْهِ اعتِبَارًا،

And think about it carefully,

وَاجْعَلَنِي مِمَّنْ اتَّعَظَ بِبَيَانِ مَوَاعِظِكَ فِيْهِ،

And make me among those whom you exhort by explaining Your admonitions therein.

وَاجْتَنَبَ مَعَاصِيْكَ،

My God, how can I despair of your good consideration of me after my death?

وَلَا تَطْبَع عِنْدَ قِرَآءَتِيْ عَلَى سَمْعِي،

And my reading is not imprinted on my hearing.

وَلَا تَجْعَلْ عَلَى بَصَرِيْ غِشَاوَةً،

And do not place a veil over my sight,

وَلَا تَجْعَلْ قِرَآءَتِي قِرَآءَةً لَا تَدَبُّرَ فِيْهَا،

Do not make my reading a reading in which you do not reflect.

بَلِ اجْعَلْنِي اَتَدَبَّرُ أيَاتِهِ وَاَحْكَامَهُ،

Rather, make me contemplate His verses and rulings.

أخِذًا بِشَرَائِعِ دِيْنِكَ،

Taking into account the laws of your religion,

وَلَا تَجْعَلْ نَظَرِيْ فِيْهِ غَفْلَةً،

And do not let my looking at it become heedless,

وَلَا قِرَآءَتِيْ هَذَرًا،

Nor is my reading in vain,

اِنَّكَ اَنْتَ الرَّؤُوْفُ الرَّحِيْمُ.

Indeed, You are the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful.

Sadiq(a.s.) used to say the following supplicatory prayer:

اَللّهُمّ اِنَّي قَدْ قَرَأْتُ مَا قَضَيْتَ مِنْ كِتَابِكَ الَّذِيْ اَنْزَلْتَهُ عَلَى نَبِيِّكَ الصَّادِقِ صَلَّى

Oh God, I have read what You have decreed from Your Book which You sent down to Your true Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace.

اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَألِهِ، فَلَكَ الْحَمْدُ رَبَّنَا، اَللَّهُمَ اجْعَلْنِي مِمَنْ يُجِلُّ حَلَالَهُ، وَيُحَرَّمُ حَرَامَهُ،

May God be upon him and his family, so praise be to You, our Lord. O God, make me among those who honor what is lawful and deems unlawful what is unlawful.

وَيُؤْمِنُ بِمُحكَمِهِ وَمُتَشَابِهِهِ، وَاجْعَلْهُ لِي أُنْسًا فِي قَبْرِيْ، وَأُنْسًا فِي حَشرِيْ،

And he believes in what is clear and similar to him, and make him a companion for me in my grave and a companion when I am gathered.

وَاجْعَلْنِي مِمَّنْ تُرْقِيْهِ بِكُلَّ أيَةِ قَرَاهَا دَرَجَةً فِي آغْلَا عِلَّيّيْنَ، أمِيْنَ رَبَّ الْعَالَمِيْنَ.

And make me among those whom You promote with every verse that He reads to a degree in the most exalted, Amen, Lord of the Worlds.

الَّذِيْ اَنْزَلْتَهُ عَلَى نَبِيِّكَ الصَّادِقِ

which you sent down to your true Prophet

صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَالِهِ،

May God bless him and his family,

فَلَكَ الْحَمْدُ رَبَّنَا،

So praise be to You, our Lord.

اَللَّهُمّ اجْعَلْنِي مِمَّنْ يُجِلُّ حَلَالَهُ،

Oh God, make me among those who honor what is lawful,

وَيُحَرِّمُ حَرَامَهُ،

He makes what is forbidden to be forbidden,

وَيُؤُمِنُ بِمُحْكَمِهِ وَمُتَشَابِهِهِ،

And he believes in what is clear and similar,

وَاجْعَلْهُ لِي أَنْسًا فِي قَبْرِيْ،

And make him a companion for me in my grave,

وَانْسًا فِي حَشْرِيْ،

And forget in my midst,

وَاجْعَلْنِي مِمَّنْ تُرْقِيْهِ بِكُلَّ أيَةِ قَرَاهَا دَرَجَةً فِي آغْلَا عِلَّيِّيْنَ،

And make me among those whom You promote with every verse that He reads to a degree in the highest of the highest.

أمِيْنَ رَبَّ الْعَالَمِيْنَ.

Amen, Lord of the Worlds.
