night of Sha'ban and the first night of Ramadan:

اَللَّهُمَّ اِنَّ هَذَا الشَّهْرَ الْمُبَارَكَ

Oh God, this blessed month

الَّذِيْ أُنْزِلَ فِيْهِ الْقُرْآنُ

In which the Qur’an was revealed

وَجُعِلَ هُدَّى لِلنَّاسِ

And it was made a guidance for the people

وَبَيِّنَاتِ مِنَ الْهُدْى وَالْفُرْقَانِ

And clear proofs of guidance and the criterion

قَدْ حَضَرَ

He has come

فَسَلَّمْنَا فِيْهِ

So we submitted to it

وَسَلَّمْهُ لَنَا

He handed it over to us

وَتَسَلَّمَهُ مِنَّا فِيْ يُسْرٍ مِثكَ وعَافِيَةٍ،

May he receive it from us in peace and good health.

يَا مَنْ آَخَذَ الْقَلِيْلَ، وَشَكَرَ الْكَثِيْرَ،

O you who received little and gave thanks for much,

اِقْبَلْ مِنَّى الْيَسِيْرَ،

Accept from me what is easy,

اَللَهُمَّ إِنَّي اَساَلَكَ

Oh God, I ask you

آَنْ تَجْعَلَ لِي إِلَى كُلَّ خَيْرٍ سَبِيْلًا،

To make for me a path to every good thing,

وَمِنْ كُلِّ مَا لا تُحِبُّ مانِعًا،

And from everything that you do not love there is an obstacle,

يَا أزحَمَ الرَّاحِمِيْنَ،

O most merciful of the merciful,

يَا مَنْ عَفَا عَنّيْ وَعَمَا خَلَوْتُ بِهِ مِنَ السَّيّئَاتِ،

O He who pardoned me and the evil deeds I was free from,

يَا مَنْ لَمْ يُؤَاخِذْنِي بِارْتِكَابِ الْمَعَاصِي،

O He who does not hold me accountable for committing sins,

عَفْوَكَ عَفْوَكَ عَفْوَكَ ياكَرِيْمُ،

Your forgiveness, your forgiveness, your forgiveness, O Most Generous,

اِلْهِيْ وَعَظَتَنِي فَلَمْ اَتَّعِظ،

My God, you preached to me, but I did not preach.

وَزَجَرْتَني عَنْ مَحارِمِكَ فلَمْ اَنْزَجِرْ،

You rebuked me from your prohibitions, but I did not repel.

فَما عُذْري،

So what is my excuse?

فَاعْفُ عَنَّي يَا كَرِيمُ،

So pardon me, O Generous One,

عَفْوَكَ عَفْوَكَ،

Your pardon, your pardon.

اَللّهُمَّ إِنَّي اَسالَكَ

Oh God, I ask you

الرّاحَةَ عَنْدَ الْمَوْتِ،

comfort in death,

وَالْعَفْوَ عِنْدَ الْحِسابِ،

And pardon at the reckoning,

عَظُمَ الذَنْبُ مِنْ عَبِدِكَ

The tailbone of your servant

فَلْيَخْسُنِ التَّجاوُزُ مِنْ عِنْدِكَ،

Let the transgression be shameful for you.

يا اَهَلَ التَّقْوى وَيَا اَهْلَ الْمَغْفِرَةِ،

O people of piety and O people of forgiveness,

عَفْوَكَ عَفْوَكَ،

Your pardon, your pardon.

اَللَهُمَّ إِنَّي عَبْدُكَ ابْنُ عَبْدِكَ وابنُ اَمَتِكَ،

Oh God, I am your servant, the son of your servant and the son of your female servant.

ضَعيْفٌ فَقيرٌ إِلى رَحْمَتِكَ

Weak and needy of your mercy

وَاَنْتَ مُنْزِلُ الْغِنِى وَالْبَرَكَةِ عَلَى الْعِبادِ

You are the sender of wealth and blessings upon the servants.

قاهِرٌ مُقْتَدِرٌ

A powerful conqueror

اَخصَيْتَ اَعمالَهُمْ،

You castrated their deeds,

وَقَسَمْتَ اَرْزاقَهُمْ،

And you divided their livelihood,

وَجَعَلْتَهُمْ مُخْتَلِفَةً الْسِنَثُهُمْ وَالْوَانُهُمْ

And You made them of different ages and colors.

خَلْقاً مِنْ بَعْدِ خَلْق،

Creation after creation,

وَلَا يَعْلَمُ الْعِبادُ عِلْمَكَ،

And the servants do not know your knowledge,

وَلَا يَقْدِرُ الْعِبادُ قَدْرَكَ،

And the servants do not appreciate your value,

وَكُلَّنا فَقيرْ إِلى رَحمَتِكَ،

We are all in need of your mercy.

فَلا تَصْرِفَ عَنَي وَجْهَكَ،

Do not turn your face away from me,

واجْعَلْني مِنْ صالِحِي خَلْقِكَ

And make me among those who are good to Your creation

العَمَلِ وَالْأمَلِ

Work and hope

وَالْقَضاءِ وَالْقَدَرِ،

And destiny and destiny,

اَللَهُمَّ اَبْقِني خَيْرَ البَقَاءِ،

Oh God, grant me the best of survival.

وَاَفِنِنِي خَيْرَ الْفَناءِ عَلى مُوالاةِ اَوْلِيائِكَ

And grant me the best of all by following Your saints.

وَمُعادةٍ اَغدائِكَ،

I beseech you through your generosity

والرَّغْبَةِ اِليْكَ، والرَّهْبَةِ مِنْكَ

And the desire for you, and the fear of you

وَالْخُشُوعِ وَالْوَفَاءِ وَالتَّسْلِيمِ لَكَ

And humility, loyalty, and submission to you.

وَالتَّصديقِ بِكِتابِكَ

And believe in your book

وَاتَّبَاعِ سُنَّةٍ رَسُولِكَ،

And follow the Sunnah of Your Messenger,

اَللَهُمَّ مَا كَانَ فِي قَلْبي

Oh God, what was in my heart

مِنْ شَكِّ اَوْ رَيْبَة

Of doubt or suspicion

اَوْ جُحُود اَوْ قُتُوط

Or ingratitude or cowardice

أَوْ فَرَح اَوْ بَذَخ اَوْ بَطَر

Or joy, or extravagance, or arrogance

آَوْ خُيَلاءِ اَوْ رِياء أَوْ سُمْعَة

Or arrogance, hypocrisy, or reputation

آَوْ شِقاق اَوْ نِفاق

Or discord or hypocrisy

آَوْ كُفْر اَوْ فُسُوق أَوْ عِضيان

Or disbelief, or transgression, or transgression

أَوْ عَظَمَة اَوْ شَيء لا تُحِبُّ

Or a bone or something that you do not like

فَاسأَلُكَ يا رَبّ أن تُبَدَّلَني مَكانَهُ ايماناً بِوَعْدِكَ،

So I ask you, O Lord, to replace me with his place, out of faith in your promise.

وَوَفاءً بِعَهْدِكَ،

And in fulfillment of your covenant,

وَرِضاً بِقَضائِكَ،

And satisfied with your judgement,

وَزُهْداً فِي الدُّنْيا،

And asceticism in this world,

وَرَغْبَةً فيما عِنْدَكَ،

And desiring what you have,

وَاَثَرَةً وَطُمَانِينَةً

Affluent and reassuring

وَتَوْبَةً نَصُوحاً

And sincere repentance

اَساَلَكَ ذلِكَ يا رَبَّ الْعالَمينَ،

I ask you for that, O Lord of the Worlds.

اِلهي أَنْتَ مِنْ جِلْمِكَ تُغصى،

My God, you are grieved by your harshness,

وَمِنْ كَرَمِكَ وَجُودِكَ ثُطاعُ، فَكَانَكَ لَمْ تُعْصَ

And from your generosity, your presence is obedience, as if you had not disobeyed.

وَأَنَا وَمَنْ لَمْ يَعْصِكَ سُكَانُ اَرْضِكَ،

And I, and any of the inhabitants of your land who do not disobey you,

فَكُنْ عَلَيْنا بِالْفَضْلِ جَواداً،

So be gracious to us,

وَبِالْخَيْرِ عَوَاداً

And with goodness again

يا اَزحَمَ الرّاحِمينَ،

O Most Merciful of the Merciful,

وَصَلَّى اللّه عَلى مُحَمَّد وَآلِهِ صَلاةً دائِمَةً

May God’s blessings be upon Muhammad and his family forever

لا تُخصى وَلا تُعَدُّ

Do not be castrated or mutilated

وَلَا يَقْدِرُ قَدْرَها غَيْرُكَ

No one can estimate its value except you

يا اَرْحَمَ الرّاحِمينَ.

O Most Merciful of the merciful.
