DUA OF IMAM AL HUSAYN ON THE DAY OF ARAFAH The supplicatory prayer of Imam al-Husayn (a.s.), the Chief of Martyrs, on the 'Arafat Day is one of the famous prayers.

Instructions

Bishr and Bashir, the sons of Ghalib al-Asadi, narrated that they, once, accompanied Imam al-Husayn (a.s.) at the 'Arafat Night when he left his tent with submission and reverence.

Instructions

He walked slowly until he, accompanied by a group of his household, sons, and servants, stopped at the left side of Mount 'Arafat and turned his face towards the Holy Ka'bah.

Instructions

He then raised his hands (for supplication) to the level of his face, just like a poor man begging food, and said:

اَلْحَمْدُ للّهِ الْذِيٰ لَيْسَ لِقَضَآئِهِ دَافِعُ

Praise be to God, for whose judgment there is no motive.

وَلَا لِعَطَآئِهِ مَانِعُ

There is no impediment to his giving

وَلَا كَصُنْعِهِ صُنْعُ صَانِع

Nor is it like the work of a maker

وَهُوَ الْجَوَادُ الْوَاسِعُ

He is the spacious horse

فَطَرَ آَجْنَاسَ الْبَدَائِعِ

He created the races of creations

وَاَتْقَنَ بِحِكْمَتِهِ الصَّنَائِعَ

And trust in His wisdom to do good deeds

لَا تَخْفى عَلَيْهِ الطَّلَايِعُ

The vanguards are not hidden from him

وَلَا تَضِيْعُ عِنْدَهُ الْوَدَائِعُ

His deposits are not lost

جَازِىْ كُلِّ صَانِع

He will reward every maker

وَرَآئِشُ كُلِّ قَانعٍ

And the desires of every contented person

وَرَاجِمُ كُلِّ ضَارِعِ

And he stones every intruder

مُنْزِلَ الْمَنَافِعِ

The source of benefits

وَالكِتَابِ الجَامِعِ بِالنُّوْرِ السَّاطِعِ

And the comprehensive book with shining light

وَ هُوَ لِلدَّعَوَاتِ سَامِعٌ

And He hears prayers

وَلِلْكُرُبَاتِ دَافِعٌ

There is a reason for calamities

وَلِلدَّرَجَاتِ رَافِعٌ،

And for the degrees there is a raiser,

وَلِلْجَبَابِرَةِ قَامِعٌ

And the tyrants have a suppressor

فَلَا اِلْهَ غَيْرُهُ

There is no god but Him

وَلَا شَءَ يَعْدِلَهُ

And nothing can equal it

وَليْسَ كَمِثْلِهِ شَءٌ

And there is nothing like Him

وَهُوَ السَّمِيْعُ البَصِيْرُ

And He is the All-Hearing, the All-Seeing

اللَّطِيْفُ الْخَبِيْرُ

the Knower of subtleties, the All-aware,

وَهُوَ عَلَى كُلِّشَءِ قَدِيْرٌ

And He has power over all things

اَللّهُمَّ اِنِّىّ اَرْغَبُ اِليْك

Oh God, I desire you

وَاَشْهَدُ بِالرُّبُوْبِيَّةِ لَكَ

And I bear witness to your divinity

مُقِرًّا بِاَنَّكَ رَبِّىْ

Acknowledging that you are my Lord

وَ اِليْكَ مَرَدِّىْ

And to you is my return

اِبْتَدَأْتَّنِى بِنِعْمَتِكَ

You started me with your grace

قَبْلَ اَنْ اَكُوْنَ شَيْئًا مَذْكُوْرًا

Before I became something mentioned

وَخَلَقْتَنِى مِنَ التُّرَابِ

You created me from dust

ثُمَّ اَسْكَنْتَنِى الْاَصلَابَ

Then the crosses made me stay

امِنًا لِرَيْبِ المَنُوْنِ

Safe for sure

وَاخْتِلافِ الدُّهُوْرِ وَالسَّنِيْنَ،

And the difference of ages and years,

فَلَمْ آَزَلْ ظَاعِنًا مِنْ صُلْبِ إِلَى رَحِمِ

I have not ceased to suffer from loins to wombs.

فِى تَقَادُمِ مِنَ الْاَيَّامِ الْمَاضِيَةِ

In the past days

وَالْقُرُوْنِ الْخَالِيَةِ

And the empty centuries

لَمْ تُخْرِجْنِى لِرَافَتِكَ بِىْ

You did not send me out out of concern for me

وَلَظَفِكَ لِى

And you were kind to me

وَاِحْسَانِكَ اِلىَّ

And your kindness to me

فِي دَوْلَةٍ آَئِمَةِ الْكُفْرِ

In a country of imams of disbelief

الَذِيْنَ نَقَضُوْا عَهْدَكَ

Those who broke your covenant

وَكَذَّبُوْا رُسُلَكَ

And they denied your messengers

لَكِنَّكَ اَخْرَجْتَنِى لِلَّذِى سَبَقَلِى مِنَ الْهَدَى

But you brought me out of the path of guidance that preceded me.

الَّذِى لَهُ يَسَّرْتَنِى

To Him I am pleased

وَفِيْهِ اَنْشَاءَتَنِىْ

And in it You created me

وَمِنْ قَبْلِ ذَلِكَ رَوُّفْتَ بِى

And before that, you were kind to me

بِجَمِيْلِ صُنْعِكَ

And torture them with a painful punishment.

وَسَوَابِغِ نِعَمِكَ

And I will reward you for your blessings

فَابْتَدَعْتَ خَلْقِى مِنْ مَنِىّ يُمْنَى

So You created my creation from Mina Yamna

وَاَسْكَثْتَنِى فِي ظُلُمَاتٍ ثَلَاثٍ

And you made me stay in darkness for three days

بَيْنَ لَخمِ وَدَمِ وَجِلْدٍ،

Between flesh and blood and skin,

لَمْ تُشْهِدْنِى خَلْقِى

My character did not witness me

وَلَمْ تَجْعَلْ اِلَىَّ شَيْئًا مِنْ أَمْرِىْ

And you did not assign any of my affairs to me.

ثُمَّ اَخْرَجْتَنِى لِلَّذِى سَبَقَ لِىْ مِنَ الْهُدْى

Then you brought me out for the guidance that had preceded me.

اِلَى الدُّنْيَا تآمًّا سَويَّا

To the world, completely and together

وَحَفِظْتَنِى فِي الْمَهْدِ طِفْلًا صَبِيًّا

And you kept me in the cradle as a baby

وَرَزَقْتَنِى مِنَ الْغِذَاءِ لَبَنَّا مَرِيًّا

And You have provided me with wholesome milk for food.

وَعَطَفْتَ عَلَىَّ قُلُوْبَ الْحَوَاضِنِ

And the hearts of the incubators were kind to me

وَكَفَّلْتَنِى الْأُمَّهَاتِ الرَّوَاحِمَ

And the spiritual mothers took care of me.

وَكَلَأْتَنِى مِنْ طَوَارِقِ الْجَآنِّ

And you called me one of the Tuareg of the Jinn

وَسَلَّمْتَنِى مِنَ الزِّيَادَةِ وَالنُّقْصَانِ

And you saved me from increase and decrease.

فَتَعَالَيْتَ يَا رَحِيْمُ يَا رَحْمْنُ

So you are exalted, O Most Merciful, O Most Merciful

حَتّى إِذَا اسْتَهْلَلْتُ نَاطِقًا بِالْكَلَامِ،

Even if I begin by speaking the words,

أَثْمَمْتَ عَلَىَّ سَوَابغَ الْإِنْعَامِ

You have sinned against the causes of livestock

وَرَبَّيْتَنِى زَآئِدًا فِي كُلِّ عَامٍ

And you raised me in excess every year

حَثَّى اِذَا اكْتَمَلَتْ فِطرَتِى

Even if my nature is complete

وَاعْتَدَلتْ مِرَّتِىّْ

And she straightened twice

أَوْجَبْتَ عَلَىَّ حُجَتَكَ

You made your argument obligatory for me

بِانْ اَلْهَمْتَنِى مَعْرِفَتَكَ

Because you have inspired me to know you

وَرَوَّعْتَنِى بِعَجَائِبِ حِكْمَتِكَ

You astonished me with the wonders of your wisdom.

وَأَيْقَظْتَنِى لِمَا ذَرَأْتَ فِي سَمَآئِكَ وَاَرْضِكَ

And you woke me up when you scattered in your heaven and your earth

مِنْ بَدَائِعِ خَلْقِكَ

From the creations of your creation

وَنَبَهْتَنِى لِشُكْرِكَ وَذِكْرِكَ

And alert me to your thanks and remembrance

وَاَوْجَبْتَ عَلَىَّ طَاعَتَكَ وَعِبَادَتَكَ

You have made it obligatory for me to obey You and worship You.

وَفَهَمْتَنِن مَا جَاءَثْ بِهِ رُسُلُكَ

And I understood what your messengers brought.

وَيَسَّرْتَ لِي تَقَبُّلَ مَرْضَاتِكَ

You made it easy for me to accept your illnesses

وَمَنَنْتَ عَلَىَّ فِىْ جَمِيْعِ ذَلِكَ

And you were kind to me in all of that

بِعَوْنِكَ وَلظفِكَ

With your help and kindness

ثُمَّ إِذْ خَلَقْتَنِن مِنْ خَيْرِ الثَّرْى،

Then when You created us from the best of wealth,

لَمْ تَرْضَ لِى يَا اِلْهِن نِعْمَةً دُوْنَ آَخْرْى

You, O God, have not chosen for me one blessing without another

وَرَزَقْتَنِى مِنْ اَنْوَاعِ الْمَعَاشِ

You have provided me with various types of livelihood.

وَصُنُوْفِ الرِّيَاشِ

And types of feathers

بِمَنَّكَ الْعَظِيمِ الْاَعْظَمِ عَلَىَّ

By Your great and greatest favor upon me

وَاِحْسَانِكَ الْقَدِيْمِ اِلَىَّ

And your ancient kindness to me

حَتَّى اِذَا اثْمَمْتَ عَلَىَّ جَمِيْعَ النَّعَمِ

Even if you sin against me for all the blessings

وَصَرَفْتَ عَنِّى كُلَّ النِّقَمِ

And you turned away all wrath from me

لَمْ يَمْنَعْكَ جَهْلِىْ وَجُرْآَتِى عَلَيْكَ

My ignorance and my audacity did not prevent you from doing so.

آَنْ دَلَلْتَنِي اِلْى مَا يُقَرِّبُنِي اِلَيْكَ

If you guide me to what will bring me closer to you

وَوَفَقْتَنِن لِمَا يُزْلِفُنِن لَدَيْكَ

And they were steadfast in what they sought before you

فَاِنْ دَعَوْتُكَ اَجَبْتَنِى

And He blessed me to return to You

وَاِنْ سَئَلْثُكَ اغْطَيْتَنِى

And if I ask you, you cover me

وَاِنْ اَطَعْتُكَ شَكَرْتَنِىْ

And if I obey you, you will thank me

وَاِنْ شَكَرْثُكَ زِدْتَنِى،

If I thank you, you will increase me.

كُلَّ ذَلِكَ اِكْمَالٌ لِاَنْعُمِكَ عَلَىَّ

All of this is a continuation of your blessings upon me.

وَإِحْسَانِكَ اِلىَّ

And your kindness to me

فَسُبْحَانَكَ سُبْحَانَكَ

Glory be to You, Glory be to You

مِنْ مُبْدِيٌ مُعِيْدٍ

Peace be upon you, partner of the Qur’an.

حَمِيْدٍ مَجِيْدٍ

Praiseworthy and Glorious

تَقَدَّسَتْ اَسْمَاؤُكَ

Hallowed be your names

وَعَظُمَثْ اَلْآؤُكَ

And the bone of the lion

فَآَىُّ نِعَمِكَ يَآ اِلْهِىَّ اُخْصِىْ عَدَدًا وَذِكْرًا؟

What are your blessings, O my God, in number and male?

آَمْ آَىُّ عَطَايَاكَ اَقُوْمُ بِهَا شُكْرًا

What of your gifts do I thank you for?

وَهِىَ يَا رَبَّ اَكْثَرُ مِنْ اَنْ يُخصِيَهَا الْعَآدُّوْنَ

O Lord, she is too numerous to be castrated by the enemy.

اَوْ يَبْلُغَ عِلْمَا بِهَا الْحَافِظُوْنَ

Or knowledge of it reaches those who have memorized it.

ثُمَّ مَا صَرَفْتَ وَدَرَاتَ عَنَّىْ

Then you did not turn away from me

اَللّهُمَّ مِنَ الضُرِّ وَالضَّرَّاءِ

Oh God, protect us from harm and hardship

اَكْثَرُ مِمَّا ظَهَرَ لِى مِنَ الْعَافِيَةِ وَالسَّرَّاءِ

More than what has appeared to me in terms of wellness and prosperity.

وَأَنَا اَشْهَدُ يَآ اِلْهِى بِحَقِيْقَةِ اِيْمَانِى،

And I bear witness, O my God, to the truth of my faith,

وَعَقْدٍ عَزَمَاتِ يَقِيْنِىْ

And certain determinations

وَخَالِص صَرِيْحِ تَوْحِيْدِىْ

He is sincere, frank, and monotheistic

وَبَاطِنِ مَكْنُوْنِ ضَمِيْرِيْ

And the innermost part of my conscience

وَعَلَائِقٍ مَجَارِيْ نُوْرٍ بَصَرِيْ

And there are streams of visual light

وَأَسَارِيْرٍ صَفْحَةٍ جَبِيْنِى

And the secrets of my forehead page

وَخُزْقِ مَسَارِبِ نَفْسِىٰ

And the paths of my soul are pierced

وَخَذَارِيْفِ مَارِنِ عِزْنِيْنِىْ

And the sheep of Marn Eznini

وَمَسَارِبٍ سِمَاخِ سَمْعِىْ

And auditory tracts

وَمَا ضُمَّتْ وَاَطبَقَتْ عَلَيْهِ شَفَتَاىَ

And my lips did not close on him

وَحَرَكَاتٍ لَفْظِ لِسَانِىْ

And the movements of my tongue

وَمَغْرَزِ حَنَكِ فَمِنْ وَفَكَىْ،

And the place of the palate and the jaw,

وَمَنَابِتِ اَضْرَاسِىْ

And the sockets of my molars

وَمَسَاغِ مَظَعَمِى وَمَشْرَبِىْ

And Masag Maazami and my drink

وَحِمَالَةٍ أُمَّ رَأْسِىْ

And a bra for my head

وَبُلَوْعِ فَارِغِ حَبَائِلٍ عُنْقِىْ

And with an empty swallow, the ropes of my neck

وَمَا اشْتَمَلَ عَلِيْهِ تَامُوْرُ صَدْرِىْ

What is included in the pericardium?

وَحَمَائِل حَبْل وَتِيْنِىْ

And Hamael Habal and Tiny

وَنِيَاطِ حِجَابٍ قَلْبِىْ

And the veil of my heart

وَاَفْلَاذٍ حَوَاشِىْ كَبِدِىْ

And the edges of my liver

وَمَا حَوَتْهُ شَرَاسِيْفُ اَضْلَاعِىْ

And the bands of my ribs do not contain it.

وَحِقَاقُ مَفَاصِلِىْ

And the pain in my joints

وَقَبْضُ عَوَامِلِى

And receive my factors

وَاَطْرَافُ اَنَامِلِىْ

And the tips of my fingertips

وَلحْمِىْ وَدَمِىْ

And my flesh and blood

وَشَعْرِىْ وَبَشَّرِىْ

And my hair and good news

وَعَصَبِىْ وَقَصَبِىْ

And my nerves and my bronchial tubes

وَعِظَامِن وَمُخِّن وَعُرُوْقِى

And my bones, my cheeks, and my veins

وَجَمِيْعُ جَوَارِحِى

And all my limbs

وَمَا انْتَسَجَ عَلَى ذَلِكَ آَيَّامَ رِضَاعِى

And he did not do that during the days of my breastfeeding.

وَمَا اَقَلّتِ الْاَرْضُ مِنَّىْ

And the earth is not less than me

وَنَوْمِن وَيَقْظَتِن وَسُكُوْنِى

And sleep, and be awake, and be at rest

وَحَرَكَاتِ رُكُوْعِن وَسُجُوْدِيَّ،

And the movements of bowing and prostrating,

آَنْ لَوْ حَاوَلْتُ وَاجْتَهَدْتُ مَدَى الْاَعْصَارِ

If I had tried and worked hard to survive the hurricane

وَالْاخْقَابِ لَوْ عُمِّرْتُهَا

And Al-Ahqab, if I lived it

آَنْ أُوَدِّى شُكْرَ وَاحِدَةٍ مِنْ اَنْعُمِكَ

I would like to thank you for one of your blessings.

مَا اسْتَطَعْتُ ذَلِكَ

I couldn't do that

اِلَا بِمَنَّكَ الْمُوْجَبِ عَلَىَّ بِهِ شُكْرُكَ

Except by Your grace by which I am obliged to thank You.

أَبَدًا جَدِيْدًا

Never new

وَثَنَآءً طَارِفًا عَتِيْدًا

A pleasant and pleasant praise

اَجَلْ وَلَوْ حَرَضْتْ

Yes, even if she is in heat

أَنَا وَالْعَآدُّوْنَ مِنْ اَنَامِكَ

I and those who return from your sleep

آَنْ نُخْصِىَ مَدَى اِنْعَامِكَ

Let us determine the extent of your blessings

سَالِفِهِ وَ أنِفِهِ

His side and nose

مَا حَصَرْنَاهُ عَدَدًا

We did not limit it in number

وَلَا اَحْصَيْنَاهُ اَمَدً

We did not count its time

اهَيْهَاتَ أَنَّى ذَلِكَ

Alas, how can this be?

وَأَنْتَ الْمُخْبِرُ فِى كِتَابِكَ النَّاطِقِ،

And you are the one who announces in your book the speaker,

وَالنَّبَاءِ الضَّادِق

And the false prophet

وَاِنْ تَعْدُّوْا نِعْمَةَ اللهِ لَا تُحْصُوْهَا

And if you count the blessings of God, you will not count them.

صَدَقَ كِتَابُكَ اللَّهُمَّ وَاِنْبَاؤُكَ

Your book is true, O God, and your prophets

وَبَلَّغَتْ اَنْبِيَاؤُكَ وَرُسُلُكَ

And I conveyed the message to your prophets and messengers

مَا اَنْزَلْتَ عَلَيْهِمْ مِنْ وَحِيِكَ

What You have sent down to them of Your revelation

وَشَرَعْتَ لهُمْ وَبِهِمْ مِنْ دِيْنِكَ

You have legislated for them and for them from your religion

غَيْرَ انَّى يَا اِلَهِىْ

Except me, oh my God

اشْهَدُ بِجَهْدِىْ وَجِدِّىْ

I bear witness to my effort and seriousness

وَمَبْلِغِ طَاعَتِىْ وَوُسْعِىْ

And the extent of my obedience and effort

وَاقْوْلَ مُؤْمِنَا مُوْقِنًا

And say, “We believe and are certain.”

اَلْحَمْدُ للهِ الَّذِى لَمْ يَتَّخِذْ وَلَدًا

Praise be to God who did not take a son.

فَيَكُوْنَ مَوْرُوْنَا

So it will be Morona

وَلَمْ يَكُنْ لَهُ شَرِيْكٌ فِى مُلْكِهِ

And he had no partner in his kingdom.

فَيُضَادُّهُ فِيْمَا ابْتَدَعَ،

So he contradicts him in what he invented,

وَلَا وَلِيًّ مِنَ الذَّلِّ

And there is no guardian from humiliation

فيُزْفِدَهُ فِيْمَا صَنَعَ

So He will reward him for what he has done

فَسُبْحَانَهُ سُبْحَانَهُ

So Glory be to Him, Glory be to Him

لَوْ كَانَ فِيْهِمَا ألِهَةٌ اِلَّا اللهُ لَفَسَدَتَا وَتَفَطَّرَتَا

If there had been in them any gods other than God, they would have been corrupted and broken apart.

سُبْحَانَ اللهِ الْوَاحِدِ الْاَحَدِ الصَّمَدِ

Glory be to God, the One, the One, the Eternal

الَّذِى لَمْ يَلِدْ وَلَمْ يُوْلَدْ

He who neither begot nor was born

وَلَمْ يَكُنْ لَهُ كُفُوَا اَحَدٌ

And there was no one equal to him

اَلْحَمْدُ للهِ حَمْدًا يُعَادِلُ حَمْدَ مَلَائِكَتِهِ الْمُقَرَّبِيْنَ

Praise be to God, a praise equivalent to the praise of His close angels

وَاَنْبِيَآئِهِ الْمُرْسَلِيْنَ

And His messenged prophets

وَصَلَّى اللهُ عَلَى خِيَرَتِهِ

May God bless his goodness

مُحَمَّدٍ خَاتَمِ النَّبِيِّيْنَ

Muhammad is the Seal of the Prophets

وَأُلِهِ الطَّيْبِينَ الطَاهِرِينَ الْمُخْلَصِينَ وَسَلَّمَ

And his good, pure and sincere family, and peace be upon him.

Instructions

The Imam (a.s.) then besought Almighty Allah so earnestly

that his eyes shed tears. He then said:

اَللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْنِي اَخْشَاكَ كَانَّى اَرَاكَ

Oh God, make me fear you as if I see you

وَاسْعِدْنِى بِتَقْوْيكَ

And make me happy with your strength

وَلَا تُشْقِنِى بِمَعْصِيَتِكَ

And do not make me miserable because of your disobedience

وَخِرْلِى فِىْ قَضَائِكَ

And proceed with your judgement

وَبَارِكُ لِى فِى قَدَرِكَ

And bless me with your destiny

حَثَّى لَا آَجِبَّ تَفْجِيْلَ مَا آَخَرْتَ

I am not obliged to postpone what you have delayed

وَلَا تَأْخِيْرَ مَا عَجَّلْتَ

And do not delay what you hasten

اَللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْ غِنَاىَ فِى نَفْسِى

Oh God, put my wealth in myself

وَالْيَقِيْنَ فِي قَلْبِىْ

And certainty in my heart

وَالْإِخْلَاص فِىْ عَمَلِىْ

And sincerity in my work

وَالنُّوْرَ فِىْ بَصَرِىْ

And the light is in my sight

وَالبَصِيْرَةَ فِى دِيْنِىْ

And insight into my religion

وَمَتَّعْنِى بِجَوَارِحِى

And take care of my limbs

وَاجْعَل سَمْعِى وَبَصَرِى الْوَارِثِيْنِ مِنِّىْ

And make my hearing and my sight heirs from me.

وَانْصُرْنِى عَلَى مَنْ ظَلَمَنِى

And help me against those who wrong me

وَاَرِنِى فِيْهِ ثَارِيْ وَمَارِبِىْ

And show me my wealth and my livelihood therein

وَاَقِرَّ بِذَلِكَ عَيْنِىْ

And my eyes acknowledged that

اَللَّهُمَّ اكْشِفْ كُرْبَتِى

Oh God, remove my distress

وَاسْتُرْ عَوْرَتِىْ

And cover my private parts

وَاغْفِزْ لِى خَطِيْئَتِنْ

And forgive my two sins

وَاحْسَا شَيْطَانِىْ

And they felt satanic

وَفَكَ رِهَانِىٰ،

And he redeemed my bet,

وَاجْعَلْ لِى يَآ اِلْهِى الدَّرَجَةَ الْعُلْيَا

And grant me, O my God, the highest level.

فِي الْأ خِرَةِ وَالْأُوْلَى

In the hereafter and the first

اَللَّهُمّ لَكَ الْحَمْدُ كَمَا خَلَقْتَنِى

Oh God, praise be to You as You created me

فَجَعَلْتَنِى سَمِيْعًا بَصِيْرًا

So you made me all-hearing and all-seeing

وَلَكَ الْحَمْدُ كَمَا خَلَقْتَنِى

Praise be to You as You created me

فَجَعَلْتَنِى خَلْقًا سَوِيًّا رَحْمَهً بِن

So You made me a perfect creation, out of mercy on him.

وَقَدْ كُنْتَ عَنْ خَلْقِى غَنِيَّا

You have been sufficient for my creation

رَبِّ بِمَا بَرَاتَنِى فَعَدَلْتَ فِطْرَتِىْ

My Lord, because You have acquitted me, You have modified my nature.

رَبِّ بِمَا اَنْشَأْتَنِى فَاَخْسَنْتَ صُوْرَتِىْ

My Lord, because You have created me, You have beautified my appearance.

رَبِّ بِمَآ اَخْسَئْتَ إِلَىَّ وَفِى نَفْسِىْ عَافَيْتَنِى

O Lord, for what You have done me wrong, and in my soul, You have healed me.

رَبِّ بِمَا كَلَاْتَنِى وَوَفَّقْتَنِى

O Lord, for what You have given me and given me success

رَبِّ بِمَا اَنْعَمْتَ عَلَىَّ فَهَدَيْتَنِىْ

My Lord, for what You have bestowed upon me, You have guided me.

رَبَّ بِمَآ آَوْلَيْتَنِن وَمِنْ كُلِّ خَيْرٍ اَعْطَيْتَنِن

My Lord, for what You have given me and for every good thing You have given me.

رَبِّ بِمَآ اَظعَمْتَنِى وَسَقَيْتَنِى

My Lord, for what You have provided for me and given me to drink

رَبِّ بِمَا اَغْنَيْتَنِى وَاَقْنَيْتَنِن

My Lord, because You have enriched me and provided me with

رَبِّ بِمَآ اَعَتْتَنِى وَاَغْزَزْتَنِى،

My Lord, for what You have taken care of and enriched me with,

رَبَّ بِمَآ اَلْبَسْتَنِى مِنْ سِثْرِكَ الصَّافِى

Lord, with what You have given me of Your pure wealth.

وَيَسَّرْتَ لِىْ مِنْ صُنْعِكَ الْكَافِى

You made it easy for me with your sufficient work.

صَلَّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَ الِ مُحَمَّدٍ

(please do) Bless Muhammad, the household of Muhammad,

وَاَعِنَّى عَلَى بَوَائِقِ الدُّهُوْرِ

And I mean for the ages

وَصُرُوْفِ اللَّيَالِى وَالْاَيَّامِ

And the passages of nights and days

وَنَجِّنِىْ مِنْ اَهْوَالِ الدُّنْيَا

And by your command concerning your enemies,

وَكُرُبَاتِ الأخِرَةِ

And the distresses of the hereafter

وَاكْفِنِى شَرَّ مَا يَعْمَلُ الظَّالِمُوْنَ فِي الْاَرْضِ

And protect me from the evil of what the wrongdoers do on earth.

اَللَّهُمَّ مَا اَخَافُ فَاكْفِنِىْ

Oh God, I am not afraid, so protect me

وَمَا اَحْذَرُ فَقِنِىْ

And what I am careful of, be wise

وَفِىْ نَفْسِىْ وَدِيْنِى فَاحْرُسْنِىْ

And in my life and my religion, guard me

وَفِى سَفَرِي فَاخفَظُنِى

And on my journey, protect me

وَفِى اَهْلِى وَمَالِى فَاخْلُفْنِى

And my family and my wealth, so leave me behind

وَفِيْمَا رَزَقْتَنِىْ فَبَارِكُ لِىْ

And in what You have provided for me, bless for me

وَفِى نَفْسِىْ فَذَلَّلْنِى

And in myself, he humiliated me

وَفِى اَغَيْنِ النَّاسِ فَعَظَّمْنِى

And when I was most jealous of people, he venerated me

وَمِنْ شَرِّ الْجِنِّ وَالْإِنْسِ فَسَلَّمْنِى

And from the evil of jinn and mankind, he delivered me

وَبِذُنُوْبِى فَلَا تَفْضَحْنِى

And do not expose me for my sins

وَبِسَرِيْرَتِى فَلَا تُخْزِنِى

And by my secret, do not disgrace me

وَبِعَمَلِى فَلَا تَبْتَلِنِن

And by My work, do not be afflicted

وَنِعَمَكَ فَلَا تَسْلَبْنِىْ

وَاِلَى غَيْرِكَ فَلَا تَكِلْنِىّ

And to others, do not trust me

اِلْهِىّ اِلْى مَنْ تَكِلُنِىً

My God, to whom do you trust me?

إِلَى قَرِيْبٍ فَيَقْطَعْنِىّ

To a relative who will cut me off

آَمْ إِلَى بَعِيْدٍ فَيَتَجَهَمُنِن

Go far away and they frown

آَمْ إِلَى الْمُسْتَضْعَفِيْنَ لِن

I pray to the oppressed

وَأَنْتَ رَبِّى وَمَلِيْكُ آَمْرِيَّ

You are my Lord and my King

اَشْكُوْ اِلَيْكَ غُرْبَتِىْ وَبُعْدَ دَارِيْ

I complain to you about my exile and the distance from my home.

وَهَوَانِى عَلَى مَنْ مَلَّكْتَهُ اَمْرِىّ

And I am humbled by the one whom my command has ruled over.

اِلْهِن فَلَا تُخْلِلْ عَلَىَّ غَضَبَكَ

O God, do not let your anger be on me

فَاِنْ لَمْ تَكُنْ غَضِبْتَ عَلَىَّ فَلَا أُبَالِى سِوَاكَ

If you are not angry with me, then I only care about you.

سُبْحَانَكَ غَيْرَ آَنَّ عَافِيَتَكَ اَوْسَعُ لِىْ

Glory be to You, but Your well-being is greater than mine.

فَاسْئَلُكَ يَا رَبِّ بِنُوْرِ وَجْهِكَ

So I ask you, O Lord, by the light of your face

الَّذِي اَشْرَقَتْ لَهُ الْاَرْضُ وَالسَّمٰوَانُ

For whom the earth and the heavens shine

وَكُشِفَتُ بِهِ الظُّلُمَاتُ،

And the darknesses were revealed by him,

وَصَلَحَ بِهِ آَمْرُ الْاَوَّلِيْنَ وَالْأخِرِيْنَ

And the affairs of the ancients and the last were reconciled by him.

آَنْ لَا تُمِيْتَنِى عَلَى غَضَبِكَ

And damn your ignorant business!

وَلَا تُنْزِلَ بِن سَخَطَكَ

And do not be angry with me

لَكَ الْعُثْبَى لَكَ الْعُتْبِى

Shame on you. Shame on you

حَثَّى تَرْضُى قَبْلَ ذَلِكَ

Until you are satisfied before that

لَا إِلْهَ اِلَّا اَنْتَ

there is no god save You,

رَبَّ الْبَلَدِ الْحَرَامِ

Lord of the Sacred Land

وَالْمَشْعَرِ الْحَرَامِ

And the sacred site

وَالبَيْتِ الْعَتِيْقِ

And the old house

الَّذِي اَحْلَلْتَهُ الْبَرَكَةَ

The one upon whom the blessing has bestowed

وَجَعَلْتَهُ لِلنَّاسِ اَمْنَا

And you made it safe for the people

يَا مَنْ عَفَا عَنْ عَظِيْمِ الذَّنُوْبِ بِحِلْمِهِ

O He who pardoned the greatest sins with His forbearance.

يَا مَنْ اَسْبَغَ النَّعْمَآءَ بِفَضْلِهِ

O you who bestowed blessings by His grace

يَا مَنْ أَعْطَى الْجَزِيْلَ بِكَرَمِهِ

O you who generously give generously!

يَا عُدَّتِى فِىْ شِدَّتِىْ

Oh my equipment in my distress

يَا صَاحِبِىْ فِىْ وَحْدَتِىْ

My friend, in my loneliness

يَا غِيَاثِىْ فِىْ كُرْبَتِىْ

Oh my relief in my distress

يَا وَلِيِّىْ فِىْ نِعْمَتِىْ

O my guardian, in my blessing

يَا اِلْهِىْ وَاِلْهَ أَبَآئِىّ

O God and the God of my fathers

اِبْرَاهِيْمَ وَاِسْمَاعِيْلَ

Abraham and Ishmael

وَاِسْحَقَ وَيَعْقُوْبَ

And Isaac and Jacob

وَرَبَّ جَبْرَئِيْلَ وَمِيْكَائِيْلَ وَاِسْرَافِيْلَ

And the Lord of Gabriel, Michael, and Israfil

وَرَبَّ مُحَمَّدٍ خَاتَمِ النَّبِيِّيْنَ

And the Lord of Muhammad is the Seal of the Prophets

وَ أُلِهِ الْمُتْتَجَبِينَ

And the God of those who abscond

وَمُنَزَّلَ التَّوْرِيةِ وَالْاِ نْجِيْلِ

And the pun was revealed and the Gospel

وَالزَّبُوْرِ وَالْفُرْقَانِ

And the Psalms and the Criterion

وَمُنَزِّلَ كَهِيْعَصَ وَطْهُ وَيُس

And the dwelling place of Kaheez and Taha and Yas

وَالْقُرانِ الْحَكِيْمِ

And the Wise Qur’an

آَنْتَ كَهْفِى جِيْنَ تُعِيِيْنِى الْمَذَاهِبُ فِى سَعَتِهَا

You were my cave, Jane, specifying the doctrines in their capacity.

وَتَضِيْقُ بِىَ الْاَرْضُ بِرُحْبِهَا

And the earth narrows to me with its vastness

وَلَوْلَا رَحْمَثُكَ لَكُنْتُ مِنَ الْهَالِكِيْنَ

Had it not been for your mercy, I would have been among those who perished.

وَاَنْتَ مُقِيْلَ عَثْرَتِىْ

And you are at risk of stumbling

وَلَوْلَا سَثْرُكَ اِيَّاىَ لَكُنْتُ مِنَ الْمَفْضُوْحِيْنَ

If you had not talked about me, I would have been one of the scandalous.

وَاَنْتَ مُؤَيِّدِىْ بِالنَّضْرِ عَلَى اَعْدَآئِىْ

And you are my supporter by looking after my enemies.

وَلَوْلَا نَضْرُكَ اِيَّاىَ لَكُنْتُ مِنَ الْمَغْلَوْبِيْنَ

Had You not harmed me, I would have been among the defeated.

يَا مَنْ خَضَ نَفْسَهُ بِالسُّمُوّ وَالرِّفْعَةِ

O He who subjugates himself with sublimity and exaltation!

فَاَوْلِيَائُهُ بِعِزِّهِ يَعْتَزُّوْنَ

His friends take pride in his glory.

يَا مَنْ جَعَلَتْ لَهُ الْمُلُوْكُ نِيْرَ الْمَذَلَّةِ عَلَى اَعْنَاقِهِمْ

O you for whom kings have placed the yoke of humiliation upon their necks!

فَهُمْ مِنْ سَطَوَاتِهِ خَائِفُوْنَ،

They are afraid of his influence,

يَعْلَمُ خَائِئَةَ الْاَعْيُنِ وَمَا تُخْفِى الصُّدُوْرُ

He knows what the eyes deceive and what the breasts hide

وَ غَيْبَ مَا تَأْتِى بِهِ الْاَزْمِنَةُ وَالدُّهُوْرُ

And what times and ages bring is absent.

يَا مَنْ لَا يَعْلَمُ كَيْفَ هُوَ اِلَّا هُوَ

O He who does not know how He is except Him.

يَا مَنْ لَا يَعْلَمُ مَا هُوَ اِلَّا هُوَ

O He who does not know what He is except Him.

يَا مَنْ لَا يَعْلَمُهُ اِلَّا هُوَ

O He whom no one knows except Him

يَا مَنْ كَبَسَ الْاَرْضَ عَلَى الْمَاءِ

O He who pressed the earth upon the water

وَسَدَّ الْهَوَآءَ بِالسَّمَاءِ

He closed the air with the sky

يَا مَنْ لَهُ اَكْرَمُ الاَسْمَاءِ

O He who has the most honorable names

يَا ذَا الْمَعْرُوْفِ الَّذِىْ لَا يَنْقَطِعُ آَبَدًا

Oh, the favor that never ceases!

يَا مُقَيَّضَ الرَّكْبِ لِيُوْسُفَ فِى الْبَلَدِ الْقَفْرِ

O you who rode Joseph in the barren land!

وَمُخْرِجَهُ مِنَ الْجُبِّ

And his exit is from the pit

وَجَاعِلَهُ بَعْدَ الْعُبُوْدِيَّةِ مَلِكًا

And made him a king after his slavery.

يَا رَآدَّهُ عَلَى يَعْقُوْبَ

Oh, how he attacked Jacob

بَعْدَ اَنِ ابْيَضَّتْ عَيْنَاهُ مِنَ الْحُزْنِ فَهُوَ كَظِيمٌ

After his eyes became white with sadness, he became depressed.

يَا كاشِفَ الضُّرِّ وَالْبَلْوْى عَنْ آَيُّوْبَ

O You who removes harm and calamity from Job!

وَمُمْسِكَ يَدَىْ اِبْرَهِيْمَ عَنْ ذَبْحِ ابْنِهِ

And he held back Abraham’s hands from slaughtering his son.

بَعْدَ كِبَرِ سِنِّهِ وَفَنَاءِ عُمْرِهِ

After his old age and the end of his life

يَا مَنِ اسْتَجَابَ لِزَكَرِيَّا

O you who responded to Zechariah

فَوَهَبَ لَهُ يَخْيِى

So Jehii gave him something

وَلَمْ يَدَعْهُ فَرْدًا وَحِيْدًا

He did not leave him alone

يَا مَنْ اَخْرَجَ يُؤْنُسَ مِنْ بَطْنِ الْحُوْتِ

O He who brought Yunus out of the belly of the whale

يَا مَنْ فَلَقَ الْبَحْرَ لِبَنِىّ اِسْرَائِيْلَ

O you who parted the sea for the children of Israel

فَاَنْجَاهُمْ وَجَعَلَ فِرْعَوْنَ وَجُنُوْدَهُ مِنَ الْمُغْرَقِيْنَ

So he saved them and made Pharaoh and his soldiers among those who were drowned.

يَا مَنْ اَرْسَلَ الرِّيَاحَ مُبَشَّرَاتٍ بَيْنَ يَدَىٰ رَحْمَتِهِ

O He who sends the winds bringing good tidings of good news before His mercy.

يَا مَنْ لَمْ يَعْجَلْ عَلْى مَنْ عَصَاهُ مِنْ خَلْقِهِ

O He who did not hasten on those of His creation who disobeyed Him.

يَا مَنِ اسْتَنْقَدَ السَّحَرَةَ مِنْ بَعْدِ طُوْلِ الْجُحُوْدِ

O you who called upon magicians after a long period of denial.

وَقَدْ غَدَوْا فِى نِعْمَتِهِ

They fell into His grace

يَأْكُلُوْنَ رِزْقَهُ، وَيَعْبُدُوْنَ غَيْرَهُ

They eat his provision and worship other than him.

وَقَدْ حَآدُّوْهُ وَنَآدُّوْهُ

They challenged him and called him

وَكَذَّبُوْا رُسُلَهُ

And they rejected his messengers

يَآ اَللَهِ يَآ اَللَهِ يَا بَدِيءُ

O God, O God, O Creator

يَا بَدِيْعُ لَا نِدَّلَكَ

Oh wonderful one, we will not flatter you

يَا دَاَئِمًا لَا نَفَادَ لَكَ

Oh you are always inexhaustible

يَا حَيًّا حِيْنَ لَا حَىَّ

O living when there is no living

يَا مُخِيِىَ الْمَوْثَى

O shameful mutha

يَا مَنْ هُوَ قَائِمٌ عَلَى كُلِّ نَفْسٍ بِمَا كَسَبَثْ

O He who is responsible for every soul for what it has committed

يَا مَنْ قَلَ لَهُ شُكْرِى فَلَمْ يَخْرِمْنِىْ

O one to whom I told him my thanks, but he did not betray me.

وَعَظْمَتْ خَطِيّئَتِى فَلَمْ يَفْضَحْنِى

My sin was great, but he did not expose me.

وَرَ أنِى عَلَى الْمَعَاصِى فَلَمْ يَشْهَرْنِىْ

He saw that I was committed to sins, so he did not defame me.

يَا مَنْ حَفِظَنِىْ فِىْ صِغَرِىْ

O you who protected me when I was young

يَا مَنْ رَزَقْنِىْ فِىْ كِبَرِىْ

O you who blessed me in my old age

يَا مَنْ اَيَادِيْهِ عِنْدِىْ لَا تُخصى

O whose hands with me cannot be castrated!

وَنِعَمُهُ لَا تُجَازْى

And His blessings cannot be rewarded

يَا مَنْ عَارَضَنِىْ بِالْخَيْرِ وَالإِحْسَانِ

O you who oppose me with goodness and benevolence.

وَعَارَضُتُهُ بِالْإِسَائَةِ وَالْعِضيَانِ

I opposed him by insulting and biting him.

يَا مَنْ هَدَانِى لِلْاِيْمَانِ

O you who guided me to faith

مِنْ قَبْلِ أَنْ اَعْرِفَ شُكْرَ الْاِمْتِنَانِ

Before I knew gratitude

يَا مَنْ دَعَوْتُهُ مَرِيْضًا فَشَفَانِىْ،

O you whom I called sick and he healed me,

وَعُرْيَانًا فَكَسَانِى

When I was naked, He covered me

وَجَائِعًا فَاشْبَعَنِى

And I was hungry, so fill me up

وَعَطْشَانَ فَآرْوَانِى

He was thirsty and quenched his thirst

وَذَلِيْلًا فَاعَزَّنِىْ

And humiliated, so comfort me

وَجَاهِلَا فَعَرَّفَنِىْ

And he was ignorant, so he made me know

وَوَحِيْدًا فَكَتَّرَنِى

And he was alone and he became lonely

وَغَائِبًا فَرَدَّنِىْ

And when he was absent, he sent me away

وَمُقِلًا فَاغْنَانِىْ

And he made me rich

وَمُنْتَصِرًا فَنَصَرَنِىْ

And he was victorious and he supported me

وَغَنِيًّا فَلَمْ يَسْلُبْنِى

And he was rich, and he did not rob me

وَاَمْسَكْتُ عَنْ جَمِيْعِ ذَلِكَ فَابْتَدَاَنِى

And I refrained from all that, so He began to

فَلَكَ الْحَمْدُ وَالشَّكْرُ

To you be praise and thanks

يَا مَنْ اَقَالَ عَثْرَتِىْ

O you who said you stumbled

وَنَفَّسَ كُرْبَتِىْ

And relieve my anguish

وَاَجَابَ دَعْوَتِىْ

He answered my call

وَسَتَرَ عَوْرَتِىْ

And you will cover my private parts

وَغَفَرَ ذُنُوْبِى

And He forgave my sins

وَبَلَغَنِى طَلِبَتِىْ

He granted me my request

وَنَصَرَنِى عَلَى عَدُوِّىْ

And He helped me against my enemy

وَاِنْ اَعْدَّ نِعَمَكَ وَمِنَنَكَ

And count your blessings and blessings

وَكَرَآئِمَ مِنَحِكَ لَا أُخْصِيْهَا

And as for the bounties you have bestowed, I will not set aside

يَا مَوْلَاىَ، اَنْتَ الْذِىْ مَنَنْتَ

O my lord, you are the one who has been blessed

أَنْتَ الْذِيَّ اَنْعَمْتَ

You are the one who has been blessed

أَنْتَ الَّذِيَّ اَحْسَنْتَ

You are the one who did well

اَنْتَ الَّذىّ اَجْمَلْتَ

You are the one who made it beautiful

اَنْتَ الَّذِيَّ اَفْضَلْتَ

You are the one who preferred

اَنْتَ الَّذِي اَكْمَلْتَ

You are the one who completed it

اَنْتَ الَّذِى رَزَقْتَ

You are the one who provided

أَنْتَ الَّذِي وَفَقْتَ

You are the one who agreed

اَنْتَ الَّذِيّ اَعْطَيْتَ

You are the one who gave

اَنْتَ الَّذِيّ اَغْنَيْتَ

You are the one who sang

أَنْتَ الَّذِيّ اَقْنَيْتَ

You are the one who has enough

اَنْتَ الَّذِي اَوَيْتَ

You are the one who has been given shelter

اَنْتَ الْذِي كَفَيْتَ

You are the one who is sufficient

أَنْتَ الَذِى هَدَيْتَ

You are the one who guided me

اَنْتَ الَّذِى عَصَمْتَ

You are the one who is infallible

اَنْتَ

You

الَّذِي

that

تَبَارَكْتَ

You are blessed

فَلَكَ الْحَمْدُ دَائِمًا

Praise be to you always

وَلَكَ الشُّكْرُ وَاصِبًا اَبَدًا

Thank you forever

ثُمَّ أَنَا يَآ اِلْهِىَّ الْمُعْتَرِفُ بِذُنُوْبِى

Then I, O God, acknowledge my sins

فَاغْفِزْهَا لِىّ

So forgive her for me

آَنَا الَّذِيّ آَسَأتُ

I am the one who has done wrong

أَنَا الَّذِي اَخْطَأْتُ

I am the one who sinned

اَنَا الْذِى هَمَمْتُ

I am the one who thought

اَنَا الَّذِى جَهِلْتُ

I am the one who was ignorant

أَنَا الَّذِى غَفَلْتُ

I am the one who neglected

أَنَا الَذِي سَهَوْتُ

I am the one who neglected

أَنَا الَّذِي اعْتَمَدْتُ

I am the one who was baptized

اَنَا الَذِي تَعَمَّدْتُ

I am the one who was baptized

أَنَا الَذِي وَعَدْتُ

I am the one who promised

وَأَنَا الَّذِيّ آَخْلَفْتُ

And I am the one who left behind

اَنَا الْذِى نَكَثْتُ

I am the one who broke

آَنَا الَّذِيّ اَقْرَزْتُ

I am the one who approved

آَنَا الَّذِي اغْتَرَفْتُ بِنِعْمَتِكَ عَلَىَّ وَعِثْدِىْ

I am the one who was overwhelmed by Your grace upon me and my promise.

وَاَبُوَءُ بِذُنُوْبِى فَاغْفِرْهَا لِىْ

And I admit my sins, so forgive me

يَا مَنْ لا تَضُرُّهُ ذُنُوْبُ عِبَادِهِ

O He Who is not harmed by the sins of His servants

وَهُوَ الْغَنِىُّ عَنْ طَاعَتِهِمْ

And He is insufficient for their obedience

وَالْمُوَفَّقُ مَنْ عَمِلَ صَالِحًا مِنْهُمْ

And the successful one is he who does righteousness among them.

بِمَعُوْنْتِهِ وَرَحْمَتِهِ

With His help and mercy

فَلَكَ الْحَمْدُ اِلهِىْ وَسَيَّدِىْ

Praise be to you, my God and Master

اِلْهِىَّ اَمَرْتَنِى فَعَصَيْثُكَ

My God, You have commanded me, so I will obey You

وَنَهَيْتَنِى فَارْتَكَبْتُ نَهْيَكَ،

You forbade me, so I committed your prohibition.

فَاَصبَحْتُ لَا ذَا بَرَآءَةٍ لِى فَاعْتَذِرُ

I have become innocent, so I apologize.

وَلَاذَا قَوَّةٍ فَانْتَصِرُ

He gained strength and was victorious

فَبِآيِّ شَءِ اَسْتَقْبِلُكَ يَا مَوْلَاىَ

With what purpose shall I receive you, my lord?

اَبِسَمْعِىّ اَمْ بِبَصَرِىّ

Whether by hearing or by sight

آَمْ بِلِسَانِى اَمْ بِيَدِى امْ بِرِجْلِىّ

I swear with my tongue, or with my hand, or with my feet

اَليْسَ كُلِّهَا نِعَمَكَ عِنْدِىْ

Aren't they all your blessings with me?

وَبِكُلِّهَا عَصَيْتُكَ يَا مَؤْلَاىَ

And with all of it I disobeyed you, my lord.

فَلَكَ الْحُجَّةُ وَالسَّبِيْلُ عَلَىَّ

So you have the proof and the way is upon me

يَا مَنْ سَتَرَنِى مِنَ الْاَ بَآءِ وَالْأُمَّهَاتِ آَنْ يَزْجُرُوْنِى

O you who will see that none but fathers and mothers will rebuke me.

وَمِنَ الْعَشَائِرِ وَالإِحْوَانِ اَنْ يُعَيِّرُوْنِىْ

And from the families and the kindred, lest they taunt me.

وَمِنَ السَّلَاطِيْنِ اَنْ يُعَاقِبُوْنِى

And from the authorities to punish me

وَلَوِ اطَّلَعُوْا يَا مَوْلَاىَ

Even if they had seen, my lord

عَلْى مَا اطَلَعْتَ عَلَيْهِ مِنِّىّ

According to what you learned from me

إِذَّا مَا اَنْظَرُوْنِى

If you look at me

وَلَرَفَضُوْنِى وَقَطَعُوْنِى

And they rejected me and cut me off

فَهَا أَنَا ذَا يَآ اِلْهِىْ

So here I am, my God

بَيْنَ يَدَيْكَ يَا سَيِّدِىْ،

In your hands, my lord,

خَاضِعٌ ذَلِيْلٌ

Submissive, servile

حَصِيْرٌ حَقِيْرٌ

A vile mat

لَا ذُوْ بَرَآئَةِ فَاَعْتَذِرُ

I am not innocent, so I apologize

وَلَا ذُوْ قُوَّةٍ فَانْتَصِرُ

And there was no one with strength, so he was victorious

وَلَا حُجَّةِ فَاحتَجُ بِهَا

There is no proof to use as evidence

وَلَا قَائِلْ لَمْ اَجْتَرِح وَلَمْ اَعْمَلْ سُوَءًا

And he does not say, “I did not commit evil, nor did I do evil.”

وَمَا عَسَى الْجُحُوْدُ وَلَوْ جَحَدْتُ يَا مَؤْلَاىَ يَتْفَعُنِى

How can ungratefulness, even if I ungrate, O my lord, help me?

كَيْفَ وَأَنَّى ذَلِكَ

How and where did that happen?

وَجَوَارِجِى كُلُّهَا شَاهِدَةٌ عَلَىَّ بِمَا قَدْ عَمِلْتُ

And all my surroundings are witnesses to what I have done.

وَعَلِمْتُ يَقِيْنًا غَيْرَ ذِيْ شَكٍ

And I knew with certainty, beyond any doubt

اَنَّكَ سَائِلِى مِنْ عَظَائِمِ الْأُمُوْرِ

You are asking me great things.

وَاَنَّكَ الْحَكَمُ الْعَدْلُ الَّذِي لَا تَجْوْرُ

And you are the just arbitrator who does not treat unjustly.

وَعَدْلُكَ مُهْلِكِىْ

And your justice is my destroyer

وَمِنْ كُلِّ عَذْلِكَ مَهْرَبِىْ

And from all of that I escape

فَاِنْ تُعَذَّبْنِى يَآ اِلْهِىْ

If you torture me, O my God

فَبِذُنُوْبِى بَعْدَ حُجَّتِكَ عَلَىَّ

Because of my sins after your argument against me

وَاِنْ تَعْفُ عَنِّىْ

And if you pardon me

فَبِحِلْمِكَ وَجُوْدِكَ وَكَرَمِكَ

With your forbearance, your presence and your generosity

لَا اِلْهَ اِلَّا أَنْتَ سُبْحَانِكَ
