(B) FIRST NIGHT OF RAJAB A number of rites have been reported to be advisably said or done at the first night in Rajab, which is a holy night. These rites are as follows:

First: At the sight of the new moon, it is recommended to say the following supplicatory prayer.

وَ السَّلَامَةِ وَ الْإِسْلَامِ
And safety and Islam
Na usalama na Uislamu
رَبَّي وَ رَبُّكَ اللهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلّ.
My Lord and your Lord, God Almighty.
Mola wangu na Mola wenu, Mwenyezi Mungu.

وَ بَلَغْنَا شَهْرَ رَمَضَانَ
And we reached the month of Ramadan
Na tukafika mwezi wa Ramadhani
وَ آَعِنَّا عَلَى الصِّيَامِ
And help us to fast
Na utusaidie kufunga
وَ الْقِيَامِ
And standing up
Na kusimama
وَ حِفْظِ اللَّسَانِ
And guarding the tongue
Na kuuchunga ulimi
وَ غَضَّ الْبَصَرِ
And lowering his gaze
Na kushusha macho yake
وَلَا تَجْعَلْ حَظَّنَا مِنْهُ الْجُوْعَ وَ الْعَطَشَ.
And do not make hunger and thirst a source of it.

And You are powerful over all things

وَ أَنَّكَ مَا تَشَاءُ مِنْ آَمْرٍ يَكُوْنُ
And that whatever you wish may happen.
Na kwamba chochote unachotaka kinaweza kutokea.
اَللَّهُمَ إِنَّي اَتَوَجَهُ اِلَيْكَ بِنَبِيِّكَ مُحَمَّدٍ
And the son of your Prophet I relied on
Ewe Mola wangu nakuelekea kwako kupitia Mtume wako Muhammad
نَبِيِّ الرَّحْمَةِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَألِهِ
The Prophet of Mercy, may God bless him and his family

يَا مُحَمَّدُ
O Muhammad
Ewe Muhammad
يَا رَسُوْلَ اللهِ
O Messenger of God
Ewe Mtume wa Mwenyezi Mungu
إِنَّي أَتَوَجَّهُ بِكَ إِلَى اللهِ رَبِّكَ وَ رَبَّيْ
I turn with you to God, your Lord and my Lord.
Naelekea pamoja nanyi kwa Mwenyezi Mungu, Mola wenu Mlezi na Mola wangu Mlezi.
لِيُنْجِحَ إلي] بِكَ طَلِبَتِيْ
May my request for you be successful for me
Ombi langu kwako lifanikiwe kwangu
اَللّهُمَّ بِنَبِيِّكَ مُحَمَّدٍ
Oh God, through your Prophet Muhammad
Ewe Mola kupitia Mtume wako Muhammad
وَ الاَئِمَّةِ مِنْ اَهْل بَيْتِهِ
And the imams are from his family
Na maimamu ni wa familia yake
صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَ عَلَيْهِمْ
May God’s blessings and peace be upon him and them
Baraka na amani za Mungu ziwe juu yake na wao
أَنْجِح طَلِبَتِي.
I make my request successful.
Ninafanikisha ombi langu.

لَكَ الْمَحْمَدَةُ اِنْ اَطَعْثُكَ
To You is praise that I obey You
Sifa njema ni Zako kwamba nakutii
وَ لَكَ الْحُجَةُ إِنْ عَصَيْتُكَ
And you have proof if I disobey you
Na una ushahidi ikiwa nitakuasi
لَا صُنْعَ لِي وَ لَا لِغَيْرِيْ فِي إِحْسَانٍ اِلَّا بِكَ
No good deed has been done to me or to anyone else except through You.
Hakuna jambo jema lililofanywa kwangu wala kwa mtu mwingine yeyote isipokuwa kupitia Wewe.
يَا كَآئِنُ [كَآئِنًا] قَبْلَ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ
O Being [being] before all things
Ewe Mwenye kuwa kabla ya vitu vyote
وَ يَا مُكَوِّنَ كُلّ شَيْءٍ
And you who create all things
Na wewe ambaye umeumba kila kitu
اِنَّكَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيْرٌ
Indeed, You are over all things competent.
Hakika Wewe una uwezo juu ya kila kitu.
اَللَّهُمّ إِنَّي اَعْوْذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْعَدِيْلَةِ عِنْدَ الْمَوْتِ
Oh God, I seek refuge in You from the punishment of death
Ee Mwenyezi Mungu, najikinga Kwako na adhabu ya mauti
وَ مِنْ شَرِّ الْمَرْجِعِ فِي الْقُبُوْرِ
And from the evil of returning to the graves
Na kutokana na ubaya wa kurudi makaburini
وَ مِنَ النَّدَامَةِ يَوْمَ الآزِفَةِ
And you are in the highest view
Na kutoka kwa majuto siku ya harusi
فَاساَلُكَ اَنْ تُصَلِّيَ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَ اَلِ مُحَمَدٍ
So I ask you to bless Muhammad and the family of Muhammad
Kwa hivyo nakuomba umbariki Muhammad na familia ya Muhammad
وَ اَنْ تَجْعَلَ عَيْشِيْ عِيْشَةً نَقِيَّةً
And to make my living a pure one
Na kufanya maisha yangu kuwa safi
وَ مِيْتَتِي مِيْتَةً سَوِيَّةً
And I will die a happy death
Na nitakufa kifo cha furaha
وَ مُتْقَلَبِي مُنْقَلَبًا كَرِيْمًا
And my changeable heart is generous
Na moyo wangu unaobadilika ni mkarimu
غَيْرَ مُخْزٍ وَ لَا فَاضِحٍ
Not shameful or scandalous
Sio aibu au kashfa
اَللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَ الهِ
it is recommended to say it at Friday nights just before dawn (fajr):

الْاَئِمَةِ يَنَابِيْعِ الْحِكْمَةِ،
Imams are springs of wisdom,
Maimamu ni chemchem za hekima.
وَ أَوْلِي النَّعْمَةِ
A growing, pure and blessed prayer
Nami nimebarikiwa
وَ مَعَادِنِ الْعِضْمَةِ
And the minerals of greatness
Na madini ya ukuu
وَ اعْصِمْنِيْ بِهمْ مِنْ كُلِّ سُوْءٍ
And protect me from every evil through them
Na unilinde na kila shari kupitia kwao
وَ لَا تَأْخُذْنِي عَلَى غِرَّةٍ وَ لَا عَلَى غَفْلَةٍ
And do not take me by surprise or out of heedlessness.
Wala usinifanye kwa mshangao au kwa kughafilika.
وَ لَا تَجْعَلْ عَوَاقِبَ آَعْمَالِي حَسْرَةً
And do not make the consequences of my deeds a regret.
Wala usifanye matokeo ya matendo yangu kuwa majuto.
وَ ارضَ عَنِّيْ
And be satisfied with me
Na uwe radhi nami
فَاِنَّ مَغْفِرَتَكَ لِلظَّالِمِيْنَ وَ أَنَا مِنَ الظَّالِمِينَ
Your forgiveness is for the wrongdoers, and I am of the wrongdoers.
Msamaha wako ni wa madhalimu, na mimi ni miongoni mwa madhalimu.
اَللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِي مَا لَا يَضُرُّكَ
Oh God, forgive me for what does not harm you
Ee Mungu, nisamehe kwa yale ambayo hayakudhuru
وَ اَغْطِنِي مَا لَا يَنْقُصُكَ
And provide me with what you do not lack
Na niruzuku msiyo yapungukiwa
فَاِنِّكَ الْوَسِيْعُ رَحْمَثُهُ
You are generous and merciful
Wewe ni mkarimu na mwenye huruma
الْبَدِيْعُ حِكْمَتُهُ
The wonderful is his wisdom
Cha ajabu ni hekima yake
وَ اَعْطِنِي السَّعَةَ وَ الدَّعَةَ
And give me patience and humility
Na unipe subira na unyenyekevu
وَ الْاَمْنَ وَ الضِّحَّةَ
And security and clarity
Na usalama na uwazi
وَ الْتُّخُوْعَ وَ الْقُنُوْعَ
And submissiveness and contentment
Na kunyenyekea na kuridhika
وَ الشُّكْرَ وَ الْمُعَافَاةَ وَ التَّقْوَىٰ
And gratitude, well-being, and piety
Na shukurani, kheri, na uchamungu
وَ الصَّبْرَ وَ الصَّدْقَ عَلَيْكَ وَ عَلَى اَوْلِيَآئِكَ
Patience and honesty be upon you and your guardians.
Subira na uaminifu ziwe juu yako na walinzi wako.
وَ الْيُسْرَ وَ الشُّكْرَ
And ease and gratitude
Na urahisi na shukrani
وَ اغْمُمْ بِذَالِكَ يَا رَبَّ اَهْلِيْ وَ وَلَدِيْ
And I am saddened by this, O Lord, my family and my children.
Na ninahuzunishwa na hili, ee Bwana, familia yangu na watoto wangu.
وَ اِخْوَانِي فِيْكَ
And my brothers among you
Na ndugu zangu miongoni mwenu
وَ مَنْ اَحْبَبْتُ وَ اَحَبَنِيْ
And whoever I love and who loves me
Na yeyote ninayempenda na anayenipenda
وَ وَلَدْتُ وَ وَلَدَنِيْ
And I gave birth and he gave birth to me
Nami nikazaa naye akanizaa
مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِيْنَ وَ الْمُؤْمِنِيْنَ
From Muslims and believers
Kutoka kwa Waislamu na waumini
يَا رَبَّ العَالَمِيْنَ.
O Lord of the worlds.
Ewe Mola Mlezi wa walimwengu wote.

Ibn Ashyam says: It is advisable to say this supplicatory

prayer after offering the eight-unit salat al-Layl (Night Prayer)

and before offering the three-unit salat al-witr. Immediately

sala ya dua wakati wa kukaa:
اَلْحَمْدُ للهِ الَّذِيْ لَا تَنْفَدُ خَزَآئِنُهُ
Praise be to God, whose treasures never run out.
Asifiwe Mungu, ambaye hazina zake hazijaisha.
وَ لَا يَخَافُ آمِنُهُ
And he who believes in him will not be afraid
Na anayemwamini hataogopa
رَبِّ اِن ارْتَكَبْتُ الْمَعَاصِيَ
My Lord, if I commit sins
Mola wangu Mlezi, nikifanya madhambi
فَذَالِكَ ثِقَةُ [ثِقَةً] مِنَّي بِكَرَمِكَ
This is my confidence in your generosity.
Hii ni imani yangu katika ukarimu wako.
اِنَّكَ تَقْبَلُ التَّوْبَةَ عَنْ عِبَادِكَ
Indeed, You accept repentance from Your servants.
Hakika wewe unakubali toba kutoka kwa waja wako.
وَ تَغْفَوْ عَنْ سَيِّئَاتِهِمْ
And ignore their bad deeds
Na kupuuza matendo yao mabaya
وَ تَغْفِرُ الزَّلَلَ
And You forgive trespasses
Katika usiku na mchana wake
وَ اِنَّكَ مُجِيْبٌ لِدَاعِيْكَ
And you are the answer to your caller
Na wewe ni jibu kwa mpigaji wako
وَ مِنْهُ قَرِيْبٌ
And it is close to him
Na iko karibu naye
وَ أَنَا تَائِبٌ اِلَيْكَ مِنَ الخَطَايَا
And I repent to you of sins
Na ninatubia kwako dhambi
وَ رَاغِبٌ اِلَيْكَ فِي تَوْفِيْرٍ حَظَّيْ مِنَ الْعَطَايَا
And desirous of bestowing upon you a generous portion of gifts.
Na kutaka kukupa sehemu kubwa ya zawadi.
يَا خَالِقَ الْبَرَايَا
O Creator of creation
Ewe Muumba wa viumbe
يَا مُنْقِذِي مِنْ كُلِّ شَدِيْدَةٍ
O creative, O Wahhab
Ewe mwokozi wangu kutoka katika kila dhiki
يَا مُجِيْرِيْ مِنْ كُلَ مَخذُوْرٍ
O my refuge from every deceived person
Ewe kimbilio langu kutoka kwa kila mdanganyifu
وَفِّرْ عَلَيَّ السُّرُوْرَ
Give me joy
Nipe furaha
وَ اكْفِنِي شَرَّ عَوَاقِبِ الْأمُوْرِ
And protect me from the evil consequences of matters
Na unilinde kutokana na matokeo mabaya ya mambo
فَآَنْتَ اللهُ عَلَى نَعَمَآئِكَ وَ جَزِيْلِ عَطَآئِكَ مَشَكُوْرٌ
May God bless you for your blessings and your generous giving.
Wewe unatutosheleza, na Yeye ndiye mbora wa kusimamia mambo.
وَ لِكُلّ خَيْرٍ مَذْخُوْرٌ.
And for every good thing there is stored up.
Na kwa kila jambo jema huwekwa akiba.
